Would this also make James Arthur the first artist to not be streaming number 1, but number 1 officially (not counting Charity/special releases)? (Since the streaming rule came into place) If not, he's surely one of just a few, right?

(Hope that makes sense lol)

Nope because KDA, Tinie Tempah and Katy B made #1 last October whilst only peaking at #9 on streaming.

Sam Smith also bullDOZEd his way to #1 with next to zero streaming in October 2015, peaking at just 15 on streaming - he also claimed he was the first gay man ever to be #15 on streaming and yet #1 on the official chart.

^

Nope, there's been plenty of official chart toppers that didn't get anywhere near #1 on streaming! Mainly from when held-back releases were more common. However every #1 this year has been #1 on streaming, so it could well end up being the first #1 this year not to be #1 on streaming at some point too. Time will tell on that front! Closer for example climbed to #1 on streams during its 2nd week at #1 officially, as did Stitches, so who knows right now.

I think I answered that correctly!

Plus James Arthur will likely climb to #1 on steaming next week...

STEAMING. I meant streaming, though the kettles will be boiling overtime in Hadji's kitchen if he stays at number 1 for (god forbid I even say it) a SECOND week !!!!

Tuesday Update Top 40 Only

Albums

1 Bruce Springsteen - Chapter & Verse (13.3k) *

He's still The Boss. :)

wonder if these 3 could make the top 40 this Friday... maybe too late...

Dua Lipa - Blow Your Mind (Mwah) - #13 on itunes and #52 on Spotify

Tove Lo - Cool Girl - #36 on itunes and #37 on Spotify

NEIKED - Sexual - #41 on itunes but #26 on Spotify

Would I be right in saying he'd be only the second male soloist from X Factor to get 2 or more #1s? The first being Olly Murs  or have I forgotten someone :heehee:

Yes. He'd also be the first male winner to get a #1 after his winners single.

Dua probably will! Too late for the others though I'd imagine.

But steaming IS included in the charts, as I explained two years ago -

The Official Chart company, in their infinite wisdom, discovered that if a kettle was boiled in a certain way, would emanate the sounds of a popular song. As of last month, every time this occurs, the OCC logs this as one "steam". 100 "steams" = 1 sale. Of course, this addition caused a lot of controversy with chart fans, as this gets logged regardless of whether the water and kettle was boiled by the person who paid for both, but the OCC have claimed that this addition makes the charts for representative of what's popular, and of course the OCC are infallible in these matters. So "steaming" will remain a part of the chart for the forseeable future.

Looks like James Arthur has #1 in the bag. Also, Dua Lipa position?

We only have the Music Week top 40 today I'm afraid.

It looks like Teddy Mac will be top 40 on Friday. :o

Great to see Offaiah at #30.

On the other hand, not pleased to see Sunshine down to #39

Is the Teddy Mac song available to purchase on CD? I'm surprised that it's as high as it is!

As far as I know there is no CD availabe, but he is doing very good on amazon downloads. The 2-track-bundle is No. 1 in the albums and "You make me feel ..." No. 17 in the tracks chart there.

He actually had a #3 album this April but, I've got to admit, it completely passed me by as well!

Oh no I remember that very well! 5 months is just quite a long time to wait for a new Joe Bonamassa album chart entry. :D

Looks like Bruce does have another #1 album after all then as he is pulling ahead of Passenger and Shawn doesn't seem to be holding up any better. Although you never know with Shawn's likely streaming advantage that won't be reflected properly in the mids I guess.

still having OWN song as number 1 even once is more respectable than having 20 chart toppers that are covers

Something that Westlife's Luis Walsh will never understand.
