March 8, 20179 yr You lot are just doing a 'Donald Trump' and trying to move the topic away from the main point. The main point isn't about women liking Sheeran... it's about a corrupt or incompetent OCC ruining the chart. If any Ed Sheeran fan seriously believes the singles chart benefits from him having sixteen songs inside the top 20, you are deluded. Edited March 8, 20179 yr by soundman
March 8, 20179 yr Well, this is not Ed Sheeran thread only and I'm surprised the new Little Mix single is still top 40. :o
March 8, 20179 yr You lot are just doing a 'Donald Trump' and trying to move the topic away from the main point. there's no way you can compare one of the worst political leaders in the history of the western world with the UK Top 40, there's simply just no grounds on which you can even justify the two of them being even NEAR the same importance.
March 8, 20179 yr Well, this is not Ed Sheeran thread only and I'm surprised the new Little Mix single is still top 40. :o I know and I know it probably won't be it's peak but it better not bet 41 on Friday Edited March 8, 20179 yr by 777666jason
March 8, 20179 yr So Ed has a chance of beating of Oasis' first week sales (depending on which figure you use) to be the second fastest selling album of all time. He's already sold enough to have the biggest sales week by a male solo artist.
March 8, 20179 yr Is this gonna be the first time the official chart and sales chart going to be so different
March 8, 20179 yr What can be expect this week at the radio 1 chart show? Do they play the top 25 with 20 Ed songs or change a bit
March 8, 20179 yr If Leona Lewis's first album had streaming then... Then.... it would be no different because streaming wasn't popular back then. :D
March 8, 20179 yr What can be expect this week at the radio 1 chart show? Do they play the top 25 with 20 Ed songs or change a bit Since the start of the year, they've been playing the high climbers, new entries and other assorted tracks between 4 and 5, then the top 10 from 5 to 5:45, so I expect it'll be similar to always!
March 8, 20179 yr The singles chart began in November 1952. Al Martino's 'Here In My Heart' was the first number one record. Radio 1 began broadcasting a regular chart show from 1967. In 1978 the chart became the UK Top 40, replacing the top 20 format. Since 1978 the chart has adapted to the times: records to compact discs to digital downloads to streaming. And now, in March of 2017, the Official Chart Company has killed the chart. RIP UK Singles Chart 1978 - 2017 :( Oh no :( So will it become just a list, without a show, of songs or something now? Well it has been irrelevant for a while now, so for it to end isn't such a big deal. Edited March 8, 20179 yr by Peenus Fly Trap
March 8, 20179 yr If Leona Lewis's first album had streaming then... It isn't like Leona was anywhere near as big as Ed is. She did what half of what Ed is going to open with in a better sales climate and in Q4.
March 8, 20179 yr I am split with whats happening. I am a fan of Ed Sheeran so i am treating my answer from the view point of not taking a specific artist into the equation. When album tracks chart, it shows an honest reflection of what the public are purchasing/streaming which would make one believe it is a true reflection on the chart. That said, its so hard to determine what songs are singles anymore. Pre the streaming and any song can chart era, i enjoyed looking up a discography of an artist, by doing so you could get a sense of what hits an artist had, what hits were big and which weren't. This way you have no idea of any of this anymore.
March 8, 20179 yr Who are the OCC to misrepresent the chart? It's called THE OFFICIAL UK SINGLES CHART It's not called The Official UK Singles Chart With Album Tracks Added A single is a single. A single is supposed to be one unit - hence the term, I guess. Not part of an album. Music acts are supposed to have one single at a time. That's the format, the rules. But now the OCC has said "**** the rules, there are no rules. Ed Sheeran can have all his album tracks in the chart. We don't give a sh*t!" I'm not telling people what they can or cannot stream. I'm stating that the OCC is marketing a false product - a singles chart full of album tracks. In law, a company can be prosecuted for misrepresentation. The OCC is no different to a company intentionally misleading the customer. Come Friday the chart is dead to me. I'll moan for a day and feel sad the chart ended up like this, but then forget about it. The streamers won. The chart purists lost. This is a result of the internet sadly. Anyway, "Singles" can mean Single Tracks, it's not a big deal.
March 8, 20179 yr 540k is pretty impressive looks like he could snatch the second fastest selling album from Oasis, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with around 750K in the end tbh. Do we know how much of these figures are from streaming? Its a good album but I do hope Adele keeps the fastest selling album accolade. I can see why people find it irritating, as even as an Ed fan I find it a little ridiculous, but it'll probably only be for a week or two save the popular tracks such as Galway Girl that will stick around. But even so on downloads alone Ed is still slaying it, in fact had something as big as this been released during the peak of the download era I'm sure a similar thing would have happened.
March 8, 20179 yr It isn't like Leona was anywhere near as big as Ed is. She did what half of what Ed is going to open with in a better sales climate and in Q4. She still would have had a lot of songs enter the Top 40. And in the context of the time, she was huge. 25 and Divide may have dwarfed it, but Spirit's sales were incredible at the time. And selling 375k in a week is still pretty amazing. Edited March 8, 20179 yr by andeeeeyhart
March 8, 20179 yr Author Music Week: Ed Sheeran's ÷ eases past half a million sales and is on course to go double platinum March 8th 2017 at 5:45PM | By Ben Homewood Ed Sheeran's ÷ eases past half a million sales and is on course to go double platinum. Ed Sheeran’s record-breaking week is showing no sign of slowing down as his third album ÷ sails past 500,000 sales and looks set to surpass 600,000. After midweeking at 431,702 sales on Monday (March 6), the record had sold 541,088 at the close of play on Tuesday (March 7), according to the Official Charts Company, with two days sales still to go. That figure does not include Spotify data for Tuesday. The singer’s new release has now entered the Top 3 in the list of the fastest-selling albums of all-time in the UK, leapfrogging Take That’s Progress (2010), which posted first-week sales of 518,601. ÷ has 337,408 physical sales and 154,930 permanent downloads, the latter figure outstrips the highest number of combined first-week sales for the whole of 2016 (David Bowie’s Blackstar, 146,000). The album has 48,750 sales from streams, a figure that smashes the record set by Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer last week. Sheeran still holds three of the Top 5 positions in the albums chart, with second album X at No.4 (17,565 sales) and debut + at No.5 (13,509 sales). All 16 tracks on ÷ continue to grow in the singles chart. Shape Of You has shifted 94,828 copies and is on course for a ninth week at No.1. Sheeran occupies the entire Top 5, nine spots of the Top 10 and 16 of the Top 19 positions. The only tracks to break his monopoly are The Chainsmokers and Coldplay’s Something Just Like This (No.6), Rag’N’Bone Man’s Human (No.12) and Katy Perry’s Chained To The Rhythm (No.16). Sheeran’s tracks occupy the following positions in the Top 5: Galway Girl (No.2), Castle On The Hill (No.3), Perfect (No.4) and New Man (No.5). Happier is at No.7, with Dive and Supermarket Flowers behind at Nos.8 and 9. In at 10 is How Would You Feel (Paean), What Do I Know is at No.11 and Eraser is at No.13. Barcelona occupies 14th spot, with Nancy Mulligan at No.15 and Hearts Don’t Break Around Here at No.17. Bibia Be Ye Ye is at No.18 on and Save Myself completes the Top 19.
March 8, 20179 yr So how many consecutive tracks do you think Ed will get at the top of the chart before Chainsmokers/Coldplay interrupt his run? 5? 6? 7?
