I like the idea of the saints days as public holidays. I just find it laughable that there's been a load of save the union shite tagged into it. May compared 45% of Scotland to f***ing Isis this weekend having St George's day isn't gonna make half of Scotland suddenly go "aye Jezza Ye ken wit. This union isnae shite after all."

Especially as Xmas and New Year are the only bank holidays Scotland actually does. None of the shops alter opening hours or anything outwith that period

...or maybe Tories and Labour will field candidates reflecting the views of each leader making them even more extreme, and May will end up in a worse position in terms of being able to be flexible if they are all ardent hard Brexiteers (the whispers are she needs a way of backtracking a tad to get an EU deal which her own party will cause trouble about, rather than the opposition she claims)

Good ol Lib Dems, Democracy still hanging on somewhere in the world...!

Yes, I've read several similar suggestions. It's all very confusing.

May 2015 - The Tories run on a manifesto which supports remaining in the single market regardless of the referendum result.

Jan 2017 - The Tories abandon that promise and say we will be leaving the single market.

Jun 2017 - The Tories run on a manifesto with a commitment to leave the single market.

Some unspecified future date - The Tories abandon that promise and do a deal that kepes us in the single market.

Huh?

I must say that all of these General Election rallies and campaigning things look jolly fun indeed. It's just a pity that there isn't a party I feel strong enough about to canvass on their behalf, the whole rigmarole looks like a real barrel of laughs.

Do we know what date the manifestos will be released?

Also to note, the Lib Dems are expected to pass 100,000 members soon. They could obtain their highest amount of members ever (current highest is 101,768 back in 1994). Quite the upswing for the Lib Dems - could make a notable impact this election.

Not surprised really. You have so many pro-EU people in the country that will vote for the party because they have come out and said they want to stay as part of the EU. It will never happen of course, but it will put pressure on the Tories.

I guess it's just a shame Labour are not fronted by a pro-EU leader, otherwise they would have made some real gains on the Tories.

What is with this Tory Scottish resurgence?? I thought the party had DIED there.

Basically all the unionist/soft Labour voters switched the the Tories as their leader is slightly better at appearing sensible than Kezia Dugdale (while still looking like a fool).

The manifestos will probably be published in the week after the local elections, i.e week beginning May 8. By tradition, each of the three main parities publishes their manifesto on a different day.
Huh?

She was harping on about being the only defence against Islamic terrorism and then in the same breath started talking about the dangerous separatists ie the SNP and nearly half of Scottish voters

Boris just gets funnier and funnier. I'm glad that holding one of the 4 Great Offices of State hasn't changed him one bit and he's still slagging people off. Called Corbyn a mugwump which many people including some journalists and MP's had to look up. :D

Wonder if she'll move him after the election though.

This week 3 suspicious packages of white powder have been sent various parts of SNP. Forfar was on lockdown yesterday after Anthrax was sent to the SNP with a note saying "SNP Out = Tory In". - It was just on BBC News at 6, but without 98% of the details or the fact that it was the SNP on the receiving end from Union supporters because why report impartial facts eh!

Yeah but the nationalists are the saboteur 'separatist' said in same breath of terrorists and are the problem that need to be exterminated. f*** Unionists. Honestly what kind of scum sends anthrax to people.

Mugwumps were mentioned in The Mamas & The Papas Creeque Alley back in 1967 (it was a band name), which is about the period Johnson is trying to turn back the economic clock to.

Just cos someone appears to be amusing, doesn't mean they aren't nasty, hypocritical liars. Which he is. Fact. I can say that without worry about consequences, because he has lied about so much and admitted it after being forced to. So I'll put in Upper Case. LIAR. HYPOCRITE. JOHNSON.

Because bombing the Middle East has turned out so well for everyone......every time.

for once politics is splitting our household *.* i'm firmly camp lib dem this election whereas my brother is very strongly tory. he's not happy the lib dem sec for our area is dropping me round some leaflets and posters this weekend :D my mum has voted tory in EVERY election since she started voting, but is going to vote lib dem this time round!

gahh I wish I could say the same (not voting Tory) for my parents but my mum has been a tory for as long as I can remember and shows no sign of changing even though she voted remain and my dad was lib dem but has been completely taken in by Ruth Davidson, even with her defense of the rape clause he's got nothing bad to say about her  I'm camp SNP (was SLab in 2015, ONLY due to our local MP who lost her seat anyway), most people I know (well the ones who intend on voting :') are too.

Dunno what my sister will vote but my folks will both vote Tory. They'd probably vote UKIP if they put a candidate out in our constituency. Both my sister and I were Remain so I think she'll probably go LibDems again. I'd go SNP if I was registered at home still. Will be different with anyone in the house with Labour or Green. Depends if I want to waste a vote with Green or just suck it up and ensure the tory march doesn't take Salford & Eccles.
I'm pretty sure my family is sworn off voting Tory, the amount of conversations where we agree on awful things that Theresa has been doing should indicate that (and my mum constantly says she looks miserable) - I don't think it's going to be split at all, I think it'll all be Lib Dem. Speaking of which, I'm going to go out campaigning for them tomorrow.
