Agnes has finally been dethroned in my rank! I am a massive fan of 'Run Boy Run', I adore the rich vocals and the gorgeous orchestral backing. I love how the production ranges from tense to chaotic. What a breathtaking song

46. Aeroche - Moan - Trentemoller featuring Ane Trolle

A very close contest with just two points separating the top 3 songs. Trentemoller finished one point ahead of Isa's Bomb (#00274E) with You're The One by Charli XCX in 3rd place for Umiiruka.

This is not the sort of song I would have expected to win. It's a fairly sparse piece of electronica which sounds a bit like early Royksopp. I like it a lot. It was released in 2007 so I think I'm right in saying this is the first winner that was more than a year old. Trentemoller is from Denmark and does a lot of remix work so if you like electronic music, there's a good chance he would have remixed one of your favourite songs.

'Moan' was a winner that really came out of the leftfield, was a very mixed reaction at the time, I'm sure people hailed it as both the best and worst winner ever  Glorious song though, and it gave us the first of many Aeroche hosted contests *.*

'Bomb' would have been an awful winner as well so thank the lord it beat that. I actually only gave it 10 at the time (behind Urban Cone's 'Kings & Queens' which I now barely remember, as much as I know I enjoyed it) but it'd be an easy 12 if I voted in that contest today.

Second fantastic winner in a row and such a surprise at the time. It was easily the best track in the contest, although I think I probably discounted it a tad in my scoring due to me already knowing it so well. I was really nervous towards the end of the results in case me doing that would cost it the win!

(Oh and the third fantastic winner in a row comes next!)

Yeah, this was definitely the start of the 'indie/hipster invasion' as it was hailed at the time (even if a lot of the winners declared this weren't THAT indie ), and ofc. the Aeroche domination *.* It was partly this that made me stick around though as it got progressively more diverse. Moan is still stunning, the video is wonderful but the best version of the song is the full seven minute one.

Can't believe my 12 won two months in a row then, that NEVER happens these days or anytime since!

I didn't point 'Moan' at the time (wasn't keen) and it winning seemed very odd ('Bomb' was expected to win) but have grown to like it a fair bit since. Good winner.

I still think 'Run Boy Run' is very overrated, for all the praise it gets on here it just doesn't do it for me.

Didn't like 'Hyperventilating', Purity Ring really should have won that contest.

Run Boy Run still is such a great song but the hipster invasion in general lead to a lot of grim entries.

47. Aeroche - Sulk - Trust

Aeroche retained their title with a much more comfortable win. Trust finished 30 points ahead of Chvrches' Lies (Isconia). If Lies had won,it would have flown to the top of my winners' leaderboard. Glorious by Hampenberg and Jesper Nohrstedt was 3rd for #00274E.

Aeroche had another unlikely winner with this darkwave song. There's a big 80s influence with the synths and I like Robert Alfons' vocals. Trust are from Toronto and have now slightly changed their name to TR/ST.

9.1 out of 10.

As I posted in the BJSC 97 results 'Sulk' has finally clicked with me now after 5 years, it was very close to my votes at the time but I was actually initially going off it with further listens, I've revisited it now though and it sounds far better than I remember it sounding. It's still the weakest of this initial trio of Aeroche winners though (and probably still the 2nd worst Aeroche winner ahead of 'Heaven', but I really love all of the other 5 so tough competition ~)

Watch out for my BJSC 98 entry for more of the 'darkwave' sound~~ #selfpromo

I love CHVRCHES but I've actually never cared much for 'Lies', it's among the weakest songs on their debut imo! Unpopular opinion though.

My 12 in this contest went to 'Phone Sex' by Blood Diamonds feat. Grimes - 5 years later Blood Diamonds is heading for the top end of the charts this week under his new name BloodPop® (I'm still a bit shook by the revelation they're the same person)

'Sulk' was a brilliant winner, really love the synthy production and quirky vocal.

Never got 'Lies', always found that very overrated. 'The Mother We Share' I also wasn't keen on at the time (it appeared a few contests later) but that grew on me when it got a radio push.

I was a bit 'eh' at all of these winners at the time but a couple of months after each of them they grew on me hard and I think I developed into an indiekid from then on. Run Boy Run and Moan have wonderful, wonderful builds and Sulk is just some lovely synthy gloriousness. Better than all of the runners-up and 3rd placers, I'm with Bré on Lies, one of the weakest on their first album.

And then of course there is Hyperventilating, which I almost went for myself but had to settle for it being my only top score to ever win until this month. Lovely song.

This was an excellent era.

Trust and Unicorn Kid, who follows, are in my top 5 winners and they were entered back-to-back by the same country!

48. Aeroche - Need U - Unicorn Kid

Aeroche became the first country to record a hat-trick of victories,a feat which still hasn't been repeated. There were over 50 countries entering the contest at this time so it was a remarkable achievement. Unicorn Kid won by 16 points with Dancing To The Same Song by Elon Levon in 2nd place for Ramrynia and Love Stuck by Dream Beats and The Face 3rd for Seyetana.

In general,I am unlikely to like any song which abbreviates you to U in its title. However, this was alright. It sounds like it's straight from the mid 90s. Unicorn Kid is Scotsman Oliver Sabin.

49. Fljotavik - Cerahtonia - Fibes,Oh Fibes! featuring Icona Pop

Jake Bugg,Foxes,Whigfield and Chvrches all took part in the contest but Fibes,Oh Fibes! were winners finishing 23 points ahead of St Lucia's September (Skall) with Closer by Tegan & Sara in 3rd place (Ramrynia).

Cerahtonia would be a good name for a BJSC country. This a cheery feelgood song which I like a lot, especially the drums and brass. Adding Icona Pop to it doesn't really spoil the song. They sound like a pop version of Arcade Fire. There are so many good winning songs from 2012. The group are from Sweden and are named after the drum company 'Fibes Drums'.

I remember being gobsmacked at the time when it got good odds and eventually won, I'm pretty certain it was a last minute replacement entry that I entered for a bit of a laugh.

I can't pretend it's a track that I've particularly stuck with after entering it.

what a run of winners *.*

Run Boy Run, Moan and Sulk are all glorious, really quite spectacular they managed to win <3

Cerahtonia is really good pop track as well! deserves a bit more love (even if i do prefer September)

'Cerahtonia' was another good winner, I actually forgot I gave it as many as 6 points though, more than I gave 'Need U' and also Fljótavík's later third winner 'Cry No More', both only got 1 point, even though I hold both of those in higher regard these days! 'September' was another one of those songs which I probably should have liked but couldn't really get into at the time, it's grown on me a bit now though.

My top picks for 48 and 49 were the gorgeous 'Evil Beauty' by Blackmill and the epic 'Puppets' by Man Without Country

A small part of me wonders if 'Cerahtonia' would have still been a winner had it not been given a 'feat. Icona Pop' tag in the contest :P (they were not actually credited on the song).

the best part about fibes oh fibes is that dandy doesn't claim it (it's still good tho :()

if only umi hadn't entered and dandy could have sent clarity !!!!
