to be honest never heard rockstar on the radio or tv or when entering a shop or a mall or anything, it's not like despacito

i personally think rockstar is popular among the kids that use spotify but not sure if it has transcended into older age groups

That's what I've noticed. I've literally only heard people say "what on earth is that shit at number 1?" - aside from on this forum...

They also tend to comment how rubbish the charts are these days

rockstar to me feels a lot like One Dance - I've not heard it at all when out and about and no-one seems to talk about it in my friendship group etc, but it's somehow really popular. Of course it's deserving of a #1 but it certainly doesn't feel as dominating as stuff like Shape of You, Despacito or even Havana which I've definitely heard lots about.
One Dance to me did feel big enough to be a #1. It was referenced a fair bit and covered quite a bit. It just didn't feel like a 12+ week #1. If you compare it to like Happy, Uptown Funk, Shape of You etc, it didn't feel anywhere near as huge as those.

To compare the two - "One Dance" used to get requested a fair bit when I DJed at the time; "rockstar." hasn't been requested once.

That said you can hardly see anyone dancing to "rockstar." can you?

And "older age groups" like Havana? I think they are both targeted for young people.

Sure Havana is more appreciated by older people than rockstar

Thats why Havana has been @1 on Itunes and Rocktar hasnt even been close

But been @1 thanks to Spotify

I don't think 'Havana' has anywhere near the crossover appeal of a Shape Of You, Despacito or even a One Dance... it's hardly been unavoidable. I'd argue something like 'New Rules' has felt bigger and I say this as a person who doesn't go out the way to hear either songs.

Obviously 'rockstar' feels bigger to me and I hear it loads but I can accept it doesn't really have multi-age crossover appeal. In my peer groups though, it has had massive hype.

I'm pretty sure rockstar got as high as number two on iTunes multiple times. I think it would have got #1 if iTunes sales were at their former levels now, as some people have said before less people are using iTunes now.

got to #2 on itunes but far from #1, was never in contention

I agree I think the spotify/rose of Post Malone following the success of Congratulations led to new music by him being hugely in demand, combine that with its lack of You Tube video amongst the same groups meant that its streams were huge hence its quick rise to the top. After that radio airplay would inevitably follow by the likes of radio 1.

I'm still shocked Dave will have 2 UK top 40 singles this Friday. :o

Havana is very likely to increase its sales this week. :P

lol at Harry Styles album in its 26th week ahead of Niall's Flicker in its third week.

We've no additional sales info but I would say it's highly unlikely considering her downward trajectory across the daily midweeks.

First Top 40 for Dave and Mostack. :cheer:

Both have had big years, with a number of popular songs impacting, so this is just reward. Could see 'No Words' sticking round for a few weeks too.

So could Taylor stay top 40 after all ?

yeah she seems very safe but I imagine her eventual chart position will be in the 30s

I'm very surprised tbh what with only being top 10 on iTunes a day and already out of top 40 and the highest she got on Spotify was 50 something I'm guessing she must have done well elsewhere (unless Friday sales on iTunes are a lit better than the rest of the week)
