If some of the Xmas songs aren't able to jump up by more than 50% in a single week, will they remain on ACR?

Presumably many of them will achieve such a jump in the first week of December, but I'm sure some of the others will have more gradual rises of 20-30% each week. So they might be stuck on ACR, unless the record companies for each song in question request manual resets.

I think pretty much all of them would have had at least a 50% rise around the start of November if not slightly earlier, considering they had such a low baseline before that. Similar to how 'Thriller' managed to avoid ACR for its one week return to the chart for Halloween because it would have had small sales bumps in the weeks leading up to Halloween but still big enough to give it a 50% increase in at least one week (and I think the same also applied to 'Ghostbusters' and 'Monster Mash').

Sam Smith is proving a few people wrong. Im not a big fan but some of the crap he has been getting is laughable.

Except not really? His sales are still continuing to be pretty underwhelming?

Looks like he might be on course to return to #1 after all (poor Paloma if that is the case) but he's hardly facing massive selling opposition.

Sam gonna block paloma the selfish git you could go back to number 1 next week instead (I’d do the infamous quote but I wouldn’t do it justice)

Outside Mariah Carey improving 1 position todays update is disappointing.

Katie Melua falling fast, Green Dat dropping out of the top 20 and Sia out of the top 30 in the album chart.

To cap it off Paloma Faith is now under threat from Sam Smith for number 1

Lining up to be a fantastic top 10 this week with Stormzy climbing in, just need Clean Bandit & MK in there too and NOT that Selena bore...

Then why was Mariah Carey on ACR last week? And Wham this week? It all seems rather odd.

Oh, I didn't know she was on ACR. In that case god knows. I should probably stop even trying to understand the OCC's rules.

Me neither until recently (which is why she wasn't initially highlighted in blue in the Top 100s thread). She is being reset this week though, and Wham are set to re-enter the top 100 but will be on ACR.

Would a record label want to request a manual reset for an older, often decades old, track, even if it is a Christmas song? If the OCC stick to their own rules then a manual reset is meant to only be given in exceptional circumstances and where the track is being scheduled for promotion. Most Christmas tracks from yesteryear aren't recharting inside the top 100 as part of a promotion and the general increase in sales of Christmas themed songs in late November / early December would probably nullify the "exceptional circumstances" part. I've taken "exceptional circumstances" to more or less mean it can be applied to a track that initially charts as an album is released and which is then later promoted as a main track, possibly some weeks or months later.

Sam Smith tweeted last Friday encouraging everybody to go and buy Paloma's Album. Oh the irony if Paloma holds Sam off the top spot by a small margin!

but i guess mariah increased by 50% last week, i mean her total not the reported figures after applying acr, thats why she's now on normal ratio?

it's the same that happened with numb, first week they enter the chart but on acr, following week they're moved to normal ratio

Unlikely as it only climbed one place last week.

but i mean the real treams, not the acr-streams, know what i mean

She wasn't on ACR when she re-entered at #89, but then moved to ACR when she climbed to #88. So the one place climb is in spite of her moving to ACR. And now she is reset and is heading for top 40 this week.

So confusing.

Seems like Mariah’s label have been allowed to reset AIWFCIY, so the OCC must be making an exception for Xmas songs...or just continuing to make it up as they go along

Actually if you extrapolate Monday's Album Sales for SS and PF for the rest of the week then Sam Smith should comfortably get the #1 spot.

Doesn't always work that way of course especially as Tuesday is usually the lowest sales day of the week but it is looking more likely he will return to the top.

if you extrapolate the data, it's pretty close, 39.1K for Sam amd 38.6K for Paloma
