December 4, 20178 yr Beyoncé not being credited is ridiculous, especially when the duet would hit number 1 on its own without the solo version. So on the charts, Beyoncé won’t be represented at all despite it being her that made it go to number 1... shocking. It's not ridiculous - she's simply on a remix of the song, it's not the main single version and therefore she doesn't deserve a credit. If Ed released this when it first got its radio push and filmed a music video for this version, a la Power/No More Sad Songs this year, then I'd agree she should deserve a credit, but that's not the case. It's a rare case of a popular remix but I don't see why it should be treated differently to the Daddy Yankee remix of Havana for example.
December 4, 20178 yr Back up to #63 - hope it can continue to rise. Thanks the singles getting ALOT of plays on MTV since the video and radio 2 Alisitng will surely mean a top 20 place near xmas week?! Agree the U2 sales are poor!!

December 5, 20178 yr Just noticed Ariana Grande is at #64 with ‘Santa Tell Me’ - if it holds up it will surpass its original #68 peak this week. Also Thunder at #58 with ‘Christmas Day’ - if they hold up it’ll be their first Top 100 single since 2006.
December 5, 20178 yr just read that in the US, billboard is gonna credit beyonce from now on, I personally think it's the right call as it's the same situation as Despacito and this is the version that people are buying and streaming it's not comparable to the new version of Havana with Daddy Yankee which sold 5 copies ;)

Perfect was already a platinum selling song here however, so if it is based on what takes the majority of total sales (as I believe it is in the UK), then it will be a while before the duet overtakes the original in combined sales to get the credit.
December 5, 20178 yr The US have different chart rules though, they always credit the featured artist on the remix if it is outselling the original, hence Beyoncé is credited for Mi Gente, and S&M also counts as a #1 for Britney Spears.
December 5, 20178 yr I think it's the right call, but we all have clearly different views so we can only agree to disagree

Specifically I believe they credit the mix which contributes the most points on that particular week, and adjust accordingly (Candle In The Wind / Something About... had the listing swapped when the latter started getting more airplay for instance). I've often wondered if Justin Bieber could eventually lose credit on Despacito since the original video gets so many more views, but it'll probably drop off the Hot 100 before that gets a chance to happen. So in the (likely) event that the duet version winds down, she'll probably lose that crediting. As always be glad you don't have to deal with the nonsense of the ARIA Charts, where Skrillex is still credited on HUMBLE., or Rudimental's massive top 5 hit Free had Nas credited even though no one was buying that version. And on the flipside, Quavo isn't credited on Congratulations, Rita Ora isn't credited on Lonely Together, Rihanna isn't credited on Lemon, and so, so many more examples :P Edited December 5, 20178 yr by Dircandydircane
December 5, 20178 yr I think one of the best cases to compare this to is the Calvin Harris remix of Florence + The Machine's Spectrum. The song was virtually unknown to the mainstream public until that remix surfaced, but still - despite reaching number one pretty much solely thanks to the remix - Calvin wasn't credited on the official chart. I personally think it's the right choice not to credit her as much as I love her but then again I really don't like this song so I'd be fine with it being omitted from her chart archive
December 5, 20178 yr Crazy that Rak-Su would’ve debuted at #1 if it wasn’t for the remix.. They should easily debut at #2.

Florence + The Machine was the sole credited artist for both original version and the remix. Whereas Ed's duet version of Perfect has Beyoncé with a lead artist credit.

It is ridiculous, because this is the version that is going #1, not the original. If you deleted the original all together, the remix would still be going to #1. It's entirely unfair to not give her a chart credit for it, when for all intents and purposes, she's the reason it's getting there right now.

You're focusing solely on this week though - what about the previous 29 weeks it's spent on the chart where the original proved itself to be popular? All of those sales would now be credited to Beyoncé too, which I find unfair considering it's a good 800k sales. It makes much more sense to keep the credit simply as 'Ed Sheeran'.
December 5, 20178 yr This thread seems to be going round in circles. In an attempt to change the record, would this be the longest a song has spent on the chart before going to #1? I seem to remember 'Thinking Out Loud' taking that record, has 'Perfect' spent longer in the Top 40?
December 5, 20178 yr Joseph confirmed as a Beyonce hater. !!! If this was released as the single mix all along, I'd be up for crediting her! I just don't think it's fair to credit her so late in the run with a remix that could easily be re-overtaken in a month or so.
December 5, 20178 yr According to the official charts (someone emailed them), it’s up to the label to decide. So basically, either Ed or Bey are blocking the credit. My bet’s on Bey.
December 5, 20178 yr I asked OCC about whether they would be combining sales of the 2 versions of Dimelo - I think this means they are Hi Ben. The song has always been eligible, just the sales were not reported to us. Both versions of the track count towards the Official Chart, but only downloads made this week..
December 5, 20178 yr I asked OCC about whether they would be combining sales of the 2 versions of Dimelo - I think this means they are . Yes, it looks that way. They could have been number 1 with better streaming figures. However, the original version of Dimelo is now freefalling and I think the newer version is starting to slow down according to kworb. The Perfect duet just had a really good update.
