That was because the other version was released under a different record label. Remix versions are legitimately combined in this way and there are many, many examples. For once the OCC are being consistent here.

Ah ok fair enough just baffled me for a moment.

It'll be pretty shameful if they cut Beyoncé out of the credit for #1, especially considering the remix is the one that is slaughtering everyone on every front right now.

However it's not the main single mix, which IMO is always the version that should be credited. Perfect has already sold 800k in its original form, it's not as if this version has made it a hit in the first place. It's like the Eminem remix of The Hills by The Weeknd - it wasn't the main single mix even if it ultimately helped it go top 10 etc.

I don't think Beyonce will be credited in the chart, but I think the remix version is the one that the Friday Chart Show will play since it's the remix that has propelled it to #1.

I’ve seem some ridiculous things in my time following the charts, but this might be the most ridiculous.

She should absolutely be credited since she is catalyst for its number 1 position.

It's not just about #1 though - Perfect has been in the chart for a long time already and has sold loads without Beyoncé near the track. She may be giving it a 2-place boost to #1 but I think it would be unfair to credit all of the song's success to her.

Either separate the songs, or give her credit. To give her absolutely no credit on the chart is just wrong.

Take the original version out of it. There’s a very good chance that the duet alone would go to number 1. So it makes absolutely no sense not to credit her.

Well for a start it will look quite odd seeing a song jump from 3 to 1 and suddenly become a duet..

She would absolutely get credit if the songs were separated and had the song been retitled (like Florence and the Machine/ Dizzee Rascal in 2010) but I can't see why you object to this well established convention other than being aggrieved that Beyonce won't be credited on a number 1 single?

merging versions is up to the occ

but crediting a featured artist is up to the label so I'd say they'd do what they want

didn't despacito chart pre-bieber?

It'll just seem a bit odd that while the Ed/Bey version is the reason Perfect will reach #1, it'll be the solo version that receives all the glory in terms of this chart stat, despite the fact it's falling away pretty fast now.

Personally I wish this was being treated as a re-release rather than as a remix. It's not just some throwaway remix, it's a reworked version that has Beyoncé with an equal credit, and it's now completely eclipsing the solo original. Therefore I think in this circumstance, Beyoncé is deserving of receiving a credit & having this impending #1 in her chart history, as opposed to her version ending up being a footnote and Ed taking 100% of the credit (according to the OCC - who knows how other worldwide charts will handle this situation?).

And yeh, I think Despacito had an artist credit change when it reached #1 (i.e. Justin Bieber was added)? I know that Perfect has been charting for ages in solo form, but when it's reaching new heights of success with a different version, this should be acknowledged imo.

I also think despacito changed credits,

the original version bieber-less had been charting on spotify for weeks, sure with enough streams to be at least top 200

She probably gives about 0 f***s whether she gets a credit or not but if she does then maybe she should stop jumping on songs that are already hits.

A two place boost but tbf a huge sales increase is likely from 30k sales to maybe 70k which will be a combination of the duet, XF performance and peak airplay!

She’s hardly ‘jumping on songs that are already hits’.

Ed explained on the Ellen show that he wanted to relaunch the song and asked Beyoncé to do it thinking she would say no, but as she had already heard the album before release and Perfect was her favourite song, she said yes.

You all should know better than to think Beyoncé needs to jump on anything. She sells her albums regardless and could have a solo hit if she wanted.

She jumped on it. The song was in the top 10 for 8/9 weeks pre-yonce (lol).

Power to her for jumping on the collab but to get credit is taking it a wee bit too far - the fact she has a writing credit on it for changing one word (she to he) is disgusting!

Ed literally asked her to be on the song and she said yes. You’re literally ignoring the facts to suit your narrative. That’s not how this site works.

I feel this is getting slightly out of hand

Absolutely. I think people’s dislike of Beyoncé is ruining all objectivity, and therefore the thread.
