Hope they add Gerry Cinnamon.

Been listening to radio 1 a lot this week working from home. Do they normally play so many old songs from longer than 10 years ago? when I listened a song older than 10 years was rare, ive heard a lot this morning and that's just in between the playlisted tracks,

Hope they add Gerry Cinnamon.

They have been in the last few weeks, but no they don’t normally. I’m guessing it’s to try to keep people motivated during this time.

Thought it was something like that, heard The Street Fit But You Know it, Early Blink 182 etc. Still don't go mad and play stuff from before the brit pop era unless its a bank holiday though lol.

I sometimes listen on a Saturday morning and a few times I've heard songs from more than 10 years ago. Sometimes they are from the early 00s.

I have seen some LM stan on Twitter say C List has been confirmed but they haven’t provided a source. Using actual rationale, seeing as R2 have picked them up this week R1 will likely follow suit

Yes most of the early 90s dance hits are now firmly Radio 2 territory rather than Radio 1 classics plays.

It's sad like I feel Radio 1 is losing its identity or something.
  • 2 weeks later...

From 4am-7pm on Monday, Radio 1 Anthems returns with its all day takeover covering the years 2000-2014 in order.

From 7pm, the Power Down Playlist will be an extended edition with Phil Taggart covering for Annie Mac.

I have heard quite a bit of late 80s/early 90s dance on Radio 1 recently - Groove Is In The Heart, Rhythm Is A Dancer, Gypsy Woman, Good Life, Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) etc. As long as they don't sound too dated and have quite a bit of cross-generational appeal, I don't see a problem. Obviously, if they're going to go as far back as that, it's more likely that they'll play those songs than, say, Ain't No Doubt by Jimmy Nail. And of course, they've recently playlisted new takes on things from 1986 (Move Your Body) and even 1980 (Haven't You Heard)! Also, MistaJam's extra hour of Classic Dance Anthems means even more airtime for that sort of thing.

He went as far back as 1987 with Steve 'Silk' Hurley yesterday!

I questioned that and it seems to be the case due to the lockdown!

Playlist predictions:

• Sam Smith and Demi Lovato - I’m ready (b list)

• Twenty One Pilots - Level Of Concern

• Selena Gomez - Boyfriend

• Doja Cat - Boss Bitch (if it’s a single)

• S1mba - Rover

• Sam Fischer - This City

• Ava Max - Kings and Queens

• Tinie (Tempah) - Top Winners

• Major Laser - Lay Your Head On Me

• Young T and Bugsey - Throw Me a Text

(Obviously not all of them will be added but hopefully a good proportion of them)

Also expecting Tame Impala, Khalid, and Declan McKenna to make way for 220 KID, BENEE and Powfu on the A List ;0

Yeah, I agree. I think there might be quite a big clear out of the B List, with maybe Duke Dumont, HRVY, Glass Animals and Kim Petra’s being removed. Which hopefully will mean quite a lot of new tracks on the playlist, it needs it!

I don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread or elsewhere but the US music website Hits Daily Double publishes a top 40 chart each week of the most played tracks on Radio 1. The chart is compiled by Radio Monitor, the company that compiles the UK Radio Airplay charts. This chart used to be published in Music Week until a few years ago but was dropped when the publication cut back on the amount of charts it published

Cool, thanks Robbie, I remember reading this a lot when I purchased MW.
