Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw are on with Clara tomorrow. They've got a new podcast called 'Sidetracked' going up on BBC Sounds where they talk about music and other bits from the past week.

There's a preview up now where they introduce the show and talk about BBC Switch when they started in 2007

Radio 1 will return to Dundee for the first-ever Big Weekend exhibition next month.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend Experience, which will be hosted at V&A Dundee from Friday 1 December to 7 January 2024, will take a deep-dive into Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2023 in Dundee showcasing highlights from across the weekend.

It will have contributions from Dundee based community groups and partners, the performers themselves, and Radio 1 listeners who have been asked to donate their festival memorabilia, photos and items.

Radio 1 is also working with V&A Dundee’s Learning Team to create a virtual version of the exhibition which will be available online as well as an accompanying exhibition Audio Guide hosted by Greg James and Arielle Free which will be available on BBC Sounds from 1 December.

In the lead up to the launch of Radio 1’s Big Weekend Experience the station will be in Dundee with Arielle Free broadcasting live on Monday 27 November.

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: “Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2023 was a huge success generating a tremendous economic boost for Dundee, so it’s incredibly special that we are returning there for this exciting legacy project.

“This has been a mammoth task and I’d like to thank our wonderful partners V&A Dundee for helping us create something truly iconic. I can’t wait for the public to see Radio 1’s Big Weekend Experience!”

Rightful decision to bring back Chart of the Year in place of the post Christmas weekly chart where it will be full of a record number of Christmas songs anyway.

It sounds like Clara's time at Radio 1 is winding down:

Clara Amfo will be handing over the reins of Future Sounds to Jack, so that she can focus on artist specials for the network over the coming year. She will also be launching a new BBC Sounds Music show in the new year (more details to follow soon!)

A few more changes:

Sian Eleri will be taking over Future Artists from April

Arielle Free will be launching a new Thursday night show for Radio 1 Dance also in April

Alyx Holcombe will be taking over the Indie Show from the first week of January

It sounds like Clara's time at Radio 1 is winding down:

How longs she been there for? Heard she was 39 so makes sense.

BBC Radio 1 Most Played 2023

Happy 2024! It's back for another year! The annual look at the most played on BBC Radio 1 in 2023 by songs and artists looking at how much a song and artist got played and the year's overall statistics. Who will take the crown this year? Overall there was a total of 141,486 plays this year and on average there was a total of 387 plays per day which is a new Last.fm page record and is up from the 133,495 songs played and the 365 songs on average played in 2022.

Before I begin, I will explain all the information and disclaimers that I need to get off my chest! I use the Radio 1 Last.fm page to be able gather the numbers and information that I need to cover this. The numbers will cover a 24 hour a day/365 days a year period, so songs from day and night will be included and crunched together. This also means that live shows, repeats and simulcasts from Radio 1Xtra are included. Some songs and artists numbers will be combined because they may have been listed as a separate song or artists and some things like, live performances of their songs or an official remix, that they are pushing, as a their main release will also be included, though not all remixes will be combined, but I will always mention where I have combined a song as a more accurate representation of how many times something was played.

As ever with technology, there may be missing or inaccurate data due to issues with a play not being recorded or technical issues with the scroller but hopefully I can present a good enough reflection of what the data shows. Without delay, here is the most played of 2023.

Thanks for the stats - 'Sprinter' is lower than I'd have guessed as I found that pretty unavoidable when tuning in but the top 2 do both make a lot of sense!

Interesting that 'get him back!' is ahead of 'vampire' despite the later release and not being as big of a hit. (Did the latter have some weeks being jointly playlisted with 'bad idea right?'? I forget)

Yeh thought ‘Sprinter’ would have been top 5 and what’s the highest song that wasn’t A Listed - Players?
Oh they loved 'Welcome To The DCC'! I assumed 'Overcome' would have been played way more! Didn't that get longer and better playlisting? Icr.
