Welcome was the 1st single which (generally) will get more promo: it was also the years HR in the world. They’ve been loving the band for the past decade!

Yeah I get all of that, but I was just under the impression that 'Overcome' was not only a lot more "radio friendly"/"accessible", but (and I'm probably wrong tbh - I cba to check ) it had better playlisting overall. But maybe it just wasn't *that* much better after all.

‘Welcome to the DCC’ went [C-B-A-A-A-A-A]

‘Overcome’ went [C-B-B-B-A-A-A-A]

So the latter got an extra week on the playlist, but IIRC the former was re-added for the Big Weekend playlist which lasted 11 days.

Yeh thought ‘Sprinter’ would have been top 5 and what’s the highest song that wasn’t A Listed - Players?

All the songs on that list were A-listed I believe.

'Welcome To The DCC' was also voted as their Hottest Record of the Year which must have earnt it a few more spins at the end of the year for what it's worth!

Also ‘Overcome’ didn’t track for some time it was on the playlist for some reason. I noticed it wasn’t coming up with the track played when that song was being played so that would have minimised some of its plays.

Yeh I think your right ‘Overcome’ was more radio friendly - for the record I also enjoyed it more. They also seemed to have similar playlist runs but weren’t on for a ridiculous amount of time so I imagine the former got more recurring plays through the year.

Sad news just came in: Radio 1's first female presenter and DJ Annie Nightingale has passed away aged 83.
Sad to hear this, incredible she was 83 and still was banging out techno on a Saturday night!

Edited by Steve201

Heartbroken, honestly. I always knew in the back of my mind this day would come but perhaps not so soon as up until Christmas she was on the radio!

Annie has been a mainstay in my listening habits from about 2010 as I was always eager to listen to her Friday night show. She effectively championed dubstep into becoming as big as it was at the time and did the same again for trap music during the time I listened. I know her show evolved somewhat and she was less and less involved recently with lots of guest mixes etc but she was still there doing little links where possible. I'll miss her "hey, hi, hello" every week, it was like a comfort blanket that the next 2 hours of music would be catered for well.

A true legend to have continued on the station for so long and until the age of 83. I'll miss her a heck of a lot

</3 I only occasionally listened to her show but always loved hearing her whenever I did, what an absolute legend of broadcasting and an end of an era. RIP.
Just heartbroken about Annie's passing especially as this news came right out of the blue. 54 years on the same station is such a phenomenonal achievement which is unlikely ever to be matched again.

Radio 1 Hottest Records 9th-14th January

9th January: AntsLive - Cutlery

10th January: Etta Marcus - Girls That Play

11th January: Mette & Sam Gellaitry - DARLING DRIVE

12th January: Gorgon City - Biggest Regret (feat. Bbyafricka)

13th January: Alok & Bebe Rexha - Deep In Your Love

14th January: Ariana Grande - yes, and?

Martha, who has covered for Annie Nightingale prior to her death, is hosting Annie's show tonight as a special tribute to her. The show will feature the usual mixes but also a showcase of Annie's favourite music and clips from the BBC archives.

Also, if you missed it on Sunday, there was a lovely show with Martha, Clara Amfo and Lauren Laverne, who paid tribute to Annie. Worth a listen back on BBC Sounds if you have a spare hour.
