I adore Neon Blue it's my favourite out of the new tracks! I'm actually a little surprised I didn't give SOL a 10 lol, perhaps it's because I was comparing it to other tracks... I do love that song though their vocals on it harmonising are amazing.

Surprised at Better Best Forgotten and Last Thing On My Mind getting this far over classics like Chain Reaction and fan faves like Summer of Love! Would've thought that one in particular was a shoe-in for top 5!

Pleasantly surprised that Neon Blue made it into the Top 10! A huge favourite of mine.

Something I didn’t notice until recently: Lee doesn’t lip sync in the Summer of Love (during the chorus) or Stomp videos. :o

At #7 and it's getting really serious now it's 'Tragedy', which has to be their most famous and well known song of their entire career. This of course catapulted the group into the big leagues and proved that they were here to stay. Released in November 1998 alongside the lesser known 'Heartbeat' and entered the UK charts at #2, then 8 weeks later in the early months of January 1999 it shot to the top of the charts, becoming their first UK chart topper and went on to sell over 1.2 Million copies, not surprisingly becoming their biggest selling hit. An inspired re-working of the Bee Gees classic, Steps brought the song back into the 90's becoming an instant pop classic that has not only overshadowed the original but eclipsed it by about a 1000 percent. Wow it's hard to imagine that this is nearly 20 years old now, which makes me feel very old now, but listening to this again really brings back those fond memories and made Steps an household name, and sure at the time it was easy to get so sick of this as it got played everywhere all the time, but now enough time has passed for everyone to enjoy it again. It also perfectly sums up what they were about: and that is pure pop and just plain good old fashioned fun. Also let's not forget to mention that iconic dance routine, is there anyone who doesn't know the hands besides the ears pose.

At #6 is another track that proved to be a darkhorse in this competition 'Better Best Forgotten', which was released in March 1999 as the 5th and final single from their debut album 'Step One', and despite being pushed back a month due to the massive popularity of their previous single, this also proved to be yet another smash hit by peaking at #2 and going on to sell over 330,000 copies and earning a Silver disc. Another thing that was going against this was the fact that it was single #5 from an already Million selling album, but Steps still riding high from their breakthrough the year before still managed to knock it out of the park. This is yet another great Steps track, although not quite a classic when compared to some of their others, although there is something charming about it's cheap and cheerful production. But they make it work and it is catchy as hell and out of what was left on the album this was probably the best choice. Although I wouldn't call the music video as one of their better moments, it does kinda look on the cheap side and I don't really get what was going on with the whole watery theme, however like the song itself it does have a certain charm to it.

After the massive success of this song, another track 'Love U More' (originally recorded by Sunscreem in 1992) was planned to follow this as the album's 6th single, but thankfully they chose to release a new track 'Love's Got A Hold On My Heart' instead, which was definitely for the better, as I doubt this would have done half as well as the album's previous singles and plus it was basically an album filler track anyway.

So we are now down to our final 5 and they are =

"Last Thing On My Mind"

"One For Sorrow"

"Deeper Shade Of Blue"

"It's The Way You Make Me Feel"

"Scared Of The Dark"

In my opinion BBF is a classic steps track and one a lot of people remember. Gutted DSOB is in the top 5. Reaaaaly dislike the track and would not say it is in their top 5 songs at all.

It’s the way you make me feel for the win :)

I honestly didn't remember Better Best Forgotten until this rate. (also...anyone else hearing a lot of Madonna's Express Yourself in it??)

I'm thinking Last Thing On My Mind out next!

Annoying that Better Best Forgotten has just missed the top 5 as its their song i have never forgotten!!

It done extremely well as a 5th single from a very successful album and ended the era wonderfully and on a high. I think at one point on release week they were number 1 in the midweeks with Better Best Forgotten.

While a 6th single would likely have been a hit regardless due to their popularity i would have selected Back To You over Love You More. That said, a 6th single didn't happen and they moved on to the next successful era of their career.

I honestly didn't remember Better Best Forgotten until this rate. (also...anyone else hearing a lot of Madonna's Express Yourself in it??)

Trying as hard as I can to see that, but just can't.

#05. Last Thing On My Mind | 8.6

Highest Scores: 11: (Stepsrcwl, Hide&Seek), 10: (SamJudd, Rossco, PAJ88, gooddelta, Simon, Tawdry Hepburn, Spiceboy), Lowest Scores: 6.5: (Jupiter)

Kicking off the all important top 5 is the fabulous 'Last Thing On My Mind', which was their 2nd single following '5,6,7,8', released in April 1998 and peaked at #6 on the UK charts, becoming their first ever top 10 hit and setting them on the path to greatness as things would only go up from here. This is quite possibly the most important track in their careers. Their debut was seen by many as one-hit wonders, but this joyous catchy pop anthem proved that they were here to stay. Originally a minor #71 hit for Bananarama back in 1992 and a kinda slow and lifeless ballad that lacked that special something, but Steps totally made the song their own and transformed it into an upbeat pop song that's so full of life and energy that it's astounding that Steps are probably one of the only acts in history to release covers better than their originals, not saying all of them, but come on this is a definite shining example of what I mean. This would also where the ABBA references would start with their sound and it's music video, which isn't a bad thing to be compared to whatsoever. So yeah I would definitely call this a Steps classic, it's well and truly earned that title.[/size]

Incredible track, so glad it made the top five. Reminds me of my final school discos/get togethers in primary school

It was the only pre-2017 song in my top 100 most listened to songs of last year according to my Spotify stats. It's just a joy to listen to and, as mentioned above, set the template for what was to come, with the Faye verse, Claire verse, Lisa middle-eight structure.
