April 6, 20187 yr Very old-skool feel, was not feeling it on the first listen but have heard a few times and it's a song. The beats are great, I don't think Dua Lipa sounds too recognisable on it though? At least in some parts for sure. Can see this as a big tune though.
April 6, 20187 yr zero garage vibes Actually it has US garage vibes. Not UK garage though Edited April 6, 20187 yr by Euphorique
April 6, 20187 yr Actually it has US garage vibes. Not UK garage though US garage is a thing? Anyone getting Marina and the diamonds vibes?? I always get Marina vibes from Dua Lipa. I think they're incredibly similar.
April 6, 20187 yr Definitely get zero Marina vibes from this. Not sure how you could say they are similar at all... It’s vety late nineties/early noughties one hit wonder dance/garage act and I’m here for it
April 6, 20187 yr Only listened once but I was a little underwhelmed :( I think it'll grow but it's certainly not the huge banger I was hoping for.
April 6, 20187 yr Not sure why anyone was expecting a "banger" really - it's clear he's not going to return to his 18 Months-style sound again. It's not even just the last album either, he was releasing more subdued stuff before that. The closest thing we had to a banger was TIWYCF & that had the most underwhelming drop of the decade...
April 6, 20187 yr I really like the sound of this, very retro but very fresh sounding as well since there's really nothing else in the charts at the moment that sounds anything like this. I kinda agree with Rooney re: Dua not sounding recognisable on it though, the vocalist could just as easily have been anyone else and it'd be just as good.

I don't really see how it's "clear" that he's not going to return to a more commercial sound again when he only released a huge club banger in 2016 with Rihanna? Fair enough if he'd been putting out album after album like Funk Wav, but he hasn't so.. As for TIWYCF having "the most underwhelming drop of the decade", well, I couldn't disagree more! April 6, 20187 yr I think this is pretty great actually and I'm expecting it to grow further - plus I can tell it is Dua pretty much straight away? I'm calling a big hit for Calvin here...
April 6, 20187 yr 3rd listen and it's growing on me just like I thought it would! EDIT: 4th listen and I love it! Edited April 6, 20187 yr by _jase
April 6, 20187 yr I think this is pretty great actually and I'm expecting it to grow further - plus I can tell it is Dua pretty much straight away? I'm calling a big hit for Calvin here... Admittedly I've only heard her singles and feature tracks but far the very intro when she sings the verses I don't think it sounds like her much at all, I would not instantly say this is Dua Lipa for example. Certainly not as distinctive as IDGAF/New Rules etc. I'm enjoying this more and more though, it's got an awesome beat. But it's also very very chilled, kind of a mix between his most recent eras really..
April 6, 20187 yr As for TIWYCF having "the most underwhelming drop of the decade", well, I couldn't disagree more! You-ooh-ooh worked a few times after the chorus but it should have changed to something else for the rest of the drop instead of just going you-ooh-ooh in a lower pitched voice which get boring and tedious. It sounded like Calvin was on autopilot tbh.
April 6, 20187 yr It was basically Calvin on autopilot. It felt like he'd pretty much given up trying by that point.
April 6, 20187 yr I feel like it doesnt sound like a Dua Lipa song either. It feels like the recipe for this was going to be this instrumental and a feature from whoever was #1 pop girl at the time, instead of being crafted to work with Dua specifically.
