Surprised, I definitely remember hearing it on there more than a few times outside the Big Top 40 (although maybe it was all on their Hot 7 at 7 thing).

August 29, 20187 yr It's very strange to me that "Shotgun" has spent so long in the Top 2 (and at No. 1) when "Paradise" only spent one week Top 2 when it's FAR superior. "Shotgun" just doesn't scream "number one" to me at all. It feels to me a bit like if "IDGAF" had been the long-running number one hit instead of "New Rules" for Dua Lipa. Yeah I agree with this completely - 'Shotgun' sounds like a fun song to be a decent sized summer top 10 hit or so (it's my least favourite of his four hits) but surely it's 'Paradise' that really sounds like it should have had this chart run. I don't know who 'Shotgun' is appealing to that 'Paradise' didn't (speaking broadly here - I know there are a couple of people who have posted here saying they like the former and not so much the latter :lol:)
August 29, 20187 yr Interesting that all four of George Ezra's top ten hits took months to get there! Budapest first made the top 75 seven months before it reached top ten, and charted on another two separate occasions in that time, Blame It On Me got there on its sixth week, Paradise on its ninth, and Shotgun on its eleventh week! All of them are slow burners!

August 29, 20187 yr Surely 'Shotgun' has more pop appeal and a stronger/more catchy/more anthemic chorus? I like both songs, but I can totally see how 'Shotgun' has a broader appeal.
August 29, 20187 yr I guess it must just be a 'your mileage may vary' thing but I'd have said the exact opposite, the chorus of 'Shotgun' is a little basic and lowkey compared to 'Paradise' for me which I'd say is much stronger/catchier.
August 29, 20187 yr Paradise is absolutely abysmal imo whereas shotgun is average at best so the public at least got that one the right way round. I do hate how all his big hits stink out the top 40 for far too long however. Which brings me nicely to maroon 5, they really are the kings of hogging the lower half of the top 10 with crap songs, see also Sugar.

What really annoys me is when the #1 single gets demoted to ACR, I get that the OCC don't want songs spending ages at #1 but some songs are just so popular that they should be #1 for so long. I still think the chart would be better off if ACR wasn't so sudden, and also with songs being taken off the chart altogether after so many weeks when they fall past #50 like on Billboard (what is the point of Shape Of You and Despacito still being in the top 100 for example??)

The OCC want to promote a fresher chart and it makes no sense for it to be gradual, it defeats the point and creating aesthetically pleasing chart runs is not the OCC's objective! I agree it shouldn't be on it, but it *has* met the criteria and it's just unlucky that it's suddenly taking off on downloads now. I don't think anything else has had a similar experience.
August 29, 20187 yr Ocean just exemplifies why the criteria is imperfect. It's about to peak on sales but because it had three weeks of (small) decline it is apparently not worthy of a top 40 position. Also, if the OCC want to promote a fresher chart then they're not doing a terrific job of it as Mr Brightside is about to re-enter yet again and we still have quite a few hangovers like Shape Of You clogging up the lower end. Granted it is the end of the chart most that doesn't get broadcast and people don't pay any attention to but we could still do with having some more newer songs making the chart.
