August 30, 20187 yr I'm sure the label would like it to also be a top 20 hit, which it now won't be because half its streams won't count. Although they should have known about the chart rules and ensured it didn't decline last week by reducing it to 59p or something, there should be the option for a manual reset citing the fact it's selling more now than ever.
August 30, 20187 yr but 2 weeks ago, when ocean climbed from 31 to 25, it didn't inrease sales? Surprisingly, no. It recorded a sales decrease of about 2%.
August 30, 20187 yr Personally, though getting rid of the sharp drops is appealing, I feel staggered ACR would be worse. ACR being all-or-nothing at least makes it relatively easy to tell when a song falls to ACR, and to compare off-ACR songs or even on-ACR songs on even playing fields. If there were many different tiers and smooth transitions, I think that would make the objective, non-arbitrary reality (the figures at a consistent ratio) indistinguishable to the point the chart would be hard to take seriously as more than 'a rough list of hot songs right now'. Kind of like making a fanfiction personal chart where chart runs are engineered for songs to drop a certain amount each week, which may be fun but holds no meaning. I feel they'd be better off creating 2 separate charts: a comprehensive chart without ACR for accuracy, and something like a 'Hot 100' (no relation to Billboard) for promotional purposes, the chart show and so on, where they can liberally kill off old songs and prioritise recent releases. I know it's most practical to have a One True Chart and thus I don't see it happening, but right now, the chart tries to satisfy both sides and doesn't do a good job at either. Realistically, if ACR were to be adjusted, I'd like to see something instated to stop songs like 'Breathe', 'Lullaby', 'Feel It Still' and even 'Shotgun' dodging ACR for ages while others get routinely killed after barely 9 weeks (and indeed barely peaking in some cases; 'Thunder' in particular comes to mind). Not that I think the current #1 should be on ACR, but if 'God's Plan' and 'One Kiss' have to, then it should too. I'd also like to see it be changed from halving streaming to halving combined units; it probably wouldn't make much difference, but upholding special priority for sales in 2018 feels like trying to prevent the charts from being filled by ~scary rap music~ to remain palatable to people who are no longer into current music anyway. In the early days of ACR the OCC did produce two charts, one with ACR applied (the Top 100 that is made public) and a Top 200 which was still compiled under the old rules without ACR being applied nor with a "3 tracks per main artist" rule. This chart was for industry eyes only. I'm assuming that chart is still compiled but it's never going to be made public. Alan Jones did used to refer to it on the odd occasion but he's not done so for a while now though he does sometimes mention how many titles an act has "starred out" of the top 75 (that is listed in the correct sales order on the Top 100 but with no chart position being awarded) but it's possible that the industry chart report that is produced each week might list these starred out tracks on the main Top 100.
August 30, 20187 yr ^ the "old rules" Combined Top 200 is indeed still compiled!I thought it might be! I wish UKChartsPlus would publish it but the OCC refuse to let them do so. The owner of UKC+ did approach the OCC to see if the chart could be published but after initially saying "not at this point" the OCC then hardened its stance and said they would not under any circumstances allow the chart to be made public. August 30, 20187 yr Surprised that BTS have actually remained that high all week considering their pretty limited impact on Spotify! On the other hand though, I would have thought their album would have made the top 10 this time. edit: ooh I actually didn't even notice that Calvin has got to #1 now, hooray *.*
August 30, 20187 yr I wonder if Pinkfong can hang into the top 40 and yes at Calvin knocking George down. Hope Calvin stays at the top by tomorrow
August 30, 20187 yr Lucid Dreams is actually gonna do it this time?! Yup, as I said yesterday it's miles ahead of #11!
August 30, 20187 yr Yup, as I said yesterday it's miles ahead of #11! Usually it's still ahead on Tue/Wed but it slips on Thursday or Friday, so you can understand my surprise at least.
August 30, 20187 yr didnt realise eastside was so close behind the top 2, eastside actually outsold both calvin and ezra yesterday!
August 30, 20187 yr As long as Juice WRLD can actually go top 10 this time, I’ll be happy and I also reckon that Marshstille could overtake BTS tomorrow Edited August 30, 20187 yr by Hadji
August 30, 20187 yr I reckon George will still have the number one tomorrow, but by a small margin once the missing data (more specifically YouTube) and the week’s ‘average’ streams from today are added. Was expecting BTS to be much lower! Would be amazing if they could go top 20 :o
