1. Yes they *can*, and many do through charities - but surely you can see that it would be wrong to *force* them to, through state-sponsored 'theft'?

2. That why I *haven't* made that claim, and why I posed it as a question, rather than a statement.

I never give to charity because I don't believe in it!

Well like any decent man would do he will resign as PM if they don't keep their promises.

You mean like the promise to leave the EU by the end of October? Except Johnson still seems to be PM.

Oops, sorry, I somehow mistook Johnson for a decent man. No idea how that happened. It won't happen again.

The Tories have destroyed the nhs and will privatise it!! Stop trolling. No one is that thick.

To be pedantic, how can they privatize what has already been destroyed?

Not leaving at the end of October was due to parliament, not Boris specifically.

Doesn't matter. He'd rather be dead in a ditch than extending Brexit.

He also chose to have this election rather than continue the passage of his bill through Parliament and find acceptable compromise to bring the country together. It's on him.

When Johnson made his promise, he knew what parliament he would be facing. Therefore, he made a promise he knew he couldn't deliver.

Maybe - but that's partly why he pushed for a GE, to try & get a working majority to push it through, not to mention a mandate on the basis of 'this is what the people endorsed'.

NEW: There have been a massive 2.8m applications to #RegisterToVote since the election was called.

That's over a million more than the comparable pre-deadline period during the last election, which saw 1.7m applications

NEW: Two thirds (1.86m) of the 2.8m who've applied to #RegisterToVote so far this election campaign are under the age of 35

It doesn't alter the fact that he made a promise he couldn't keep. Not exactly a great start for a PM. Still, it fits the usual Tory narrative of "Blame Somebody else".

At least you're admitting he also lied when he said he didn't want this election.

There is a distinction between 'couldn't' and 'wouldn't', though.

I still doubt this is going to translate in the way people want. I wish I had more confidence like Michael, but I just can’t see past Johnson getting at least a slim majority.

I think its difficult to say; but obviously given what happened in he last election and how things panned out and this is a major increase over the last elections registrations that its a good sign.

Obviously we wont know either way until the 12th/13th

What Michael has is not *confidence* - at best, more like wishful thinking...

Which is much easier/ enjoyable to read than you dismissing the people who died in the floods as 'people milking it' and Common Sense laughing/ rolling their eyes at people accessing food banks.

Michael's may be wishful thinking but at least his views aren't vile rhetoric which had to be removed by forum moderators

That I did *not* expect - I thought the Tories were the most disliked party in Scotland. :o

Partially because the brexiteers have no one else to support and partial unionist tactical voting. They remain deeply hated in the populated parts of the country and popular in the North East with its high inward migration from England (yay oil)
