Biography

The 1975 are an English pop rock band originally from Wilmslow, Cheshire. The band are now based in Manchester, and consist of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel.

The band's origins trace to their attendance at Wilmslow High School in Cheshire and playing together as teenagers in 2002. Gigs organised by a council worker led the band to formally sign with Dirty Hit and Polydor Records. The band opened for several major acts and released a series of extended plays (Facedown, Sex, Music for Cars, IV) throughout 2012 before releasing their self-titled debut album (2013), which included the popular singles "Sex", "Chocolate", and "Robbers" reaching number one in the United Kingdom.

Their second album, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it (2016), reached number one in the US and UK. Following the touring cycle for the record, the band announced their third album under the working title of Music for Cars, before going on hiatus again throughout 2017.

Returning in 2018, the band announced that the album had evolved into their third campaign cycle, consisting of their third and fourth studio albums. The first, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (2018), was released to critical praise, and became their third number one album in the UK. The second, Notes on a Conditional Form, is set to be released on February 21, 2020. - Wikipedia

I wish The 1975 were a No1 contender next week.

I didn't realise 'Chocolate' was a millionseller' as well and it peaked at 19!

Can't wait for Señorita to finally leave the #1 spot for someone else next week.

The silver lining of 'Beautiful People' getting back to #1 is it would make a pretty interesting bit of chart trivia - the pattern of 2 consecutive #1s being followed by the same 2 songs both returning to #1, which I think hasn't happened since the 50s?

(I am still liking 'Beautiful People' as a song as well so I wouldn't mind it returning really, it'd just feel very :') as it's entirely down to quirks of chart rules and it will itself collapse onto ACR the following week).

By which time we will likely have a NE at no1 by a big returning artists with a song we haven't heard yet ;(

Just thought Id leave with my 25,000 post **

Much longer thread than normal for the chart show - we usually average on 7-9 pages.

I know you cant manipulate the chart and i like most of your choices anyway just curious when was the last time Next weeks contender was actually a contender (or even went to number 1)
How long was Havana at #1? Was that also six weeks?

It was No1 for 5 weeks

I think that happened in 1996 with Three Lions and Killing Me Softly?

"contender" is vague and generally means a top 40 contender, not specifically #1. It's not like there are any better choices.

(besides, both Senorita and Beautiful People were prepped as contenders when they came out lol...)

Ah, you are right, I forgot about that one. Maybe the last time before that was in the 50s is what I was thinking of. (A first time for 23 years is still a pretty interesting stat though :magic:)

edit: it was the 60s, not the 50s - the last time before that one was 'Lily The Pink' and 'Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da' in 1969.

1996

Killing Me Softly

3 Lions ;)

I really want Higher Love to bag the number one at some point - even if ends up being down to Shawn/Ed going to ACR

Argh that makes a lot more sense thanks and also thanks to all chart mods continuing all the hard work

and I made my 33,333rd post in this thread *.*

That's spooky!!

Yes, but nowhere near as many No1s as Westlife!

7 ain't bad. If he keeps it up he could reach the 14 no1s they have!
