March 20, 20205 yr Let’s just say After Hours was probably a fluke. Nothing is coming even close. Another throwaway album but at least he tried something new. The whole thing feels very disjointed to me. Drum n bass, rnb, 80s and 90s influences all in one.
March 20, 20205 yr Was really looking forward to this but it's disappointing on first listen. It all just washed over me. I'll give it a couple more chances as his stuff does usually grow on me but I can't remember anything outwith the singles at the moment.
March 20, 20205 yr I think Blinding Lights is great and I like it but it's basically a clone of False Alarm from the last album so it's not like he's started suddenly changing his sound I'm sorry, but what the HELL are you on about here?
March 20, 20205 yr I'm finding it mostly very instant — especially the second half of the album. The production and melodies are really great, but the lyrics... I could easily put this on and be swept up in it all without really listening to what he's saying — which isn't much beyond occasionally empty and repetitive platitudes. March 20, 20205 yr If anything Blinding Lights is a direct copy and paste from one of the A-ha songs a few years ago... Yeah, I’m finding the second half to be much much better. It has some evidence that The Weeknd hasn’t completely lost his touch. Edited March 20, 20205 yr by 🍆
March 20, 20205 yr Yes! It's very similar to something like Forest Fire or Riding the Crest. a-ha
March 20, 20205 yr Overall I think I still prefer Starboy as an album but the middle part of this album is brilliant and exactly what I want from him. Some really standouts too. My favourites being Snowchild, Faith & Save Your Tears.
March 20, 20205 yr I'm sorry, but what the HELL are you on about here? check False Alarm from his last album, pretty similar to Blinding Lights many were saying BL was like a unique sound he never did before but for me it's really False Alarm the sequel which is good but not a a career change
March 20, 20205 yr but I read his label boss saying the album had another huge potential single that was gonna be as big a Blinding Lights really cannot see which track he was referring to?
March 20, 20205 yr False Alarm sounds nothing like Blinding Lights! It always sounded quite Bloc Party-esque to me, which Blinding Lights...doesn’t. I’m actually quite liking this after not caring much about his last couple of albums. I think it’s pretty clear he’s going in a different direction to Trilogy so it’s best to just take it as it is I think haha In Your Eyes sounds huge to me. Ready to hear that sax everywhere  Edited March 20, 20205 yr by Cremey
March 20, 20205 yr I wonder if they meant Save Your Tears? 'In Your Eyes' is the next single, so I imagine that. They're both Max Martin productions though. And bops. I always welcome a pop sax! Edited March 20, 20205 yr by blacksquare
March 20, 20205 yr Love a pop sax! Did the ‘Your Song’ interpolation on ‘Scared to Live’ take anyone else completely by surprise?
March 20, 20205 yr Everything from (and ofc including) Blinding Lights is fantastic! So, SO good! It's hardly surprising when reading that Max Martin is involved in a few of them/the 2 main highlights away from BL. The first half is ok, but I think I'll appreciate it more with more listens as it's not terrible/unlistenable just not very memorable for me. Hardest To Love though... stunning
March 20, 20205 yr I actually kept thinking of 'False Alarm' when I first heard 'Blinding Lights' too.
March 20, 20205 yr Just found out that Mario Winans has a writing and production credit on the track 'After Hours'. How random.
March 20, 20205 yr If IYE becomes a big hit, we need The Edge of Glory back on charts too with that sax.
March 20, 20205 yr The 2nd half of the album is really good and I enjoyed Scared To Live as well. In Your Eyes is defintley the right choice for the next single
