One day Mariah may be finally number 1. There just needs to be demand/consumption for it.

I can think of an occasion when she may do it but hopefully that's many years away.

All this stupid rules, this exclusives with doped streams, the whole chart are so Embarrassing!

A private company and a record company sign a deal for a song exclusive. Then the private company decides to stream the song million of times randomly every 20 minutes to all its consumers even if they havent asked for.

Mariah streams are real! People went to play the song because they wanted, they wanted to listen to the song. No one has been forced to play it! Nonetheless the Uk chart company decided to cut in half real streams and count in full forced, fake, not requested streams!

Come on people!

It's evident that record companies don't care much about the UK chart, otherwise Mariah would make complaints for all this

On what basis exactly? Other older songs are on ACR too and nor just her.

Make a mockery of our chart rules, queen *.*
It is quite infuriating for a song to be number one based on more passive listens than even selecting a pre-made playlist. But hey - it was savvy from Ellie's team to run the exclusive. Just a real shame that mariah couldn't get the number one when the chart week lined up perfectly

I feel like I’m the only person who isn’t surprised that Ellie had a chance at #1? Both River and All I Want for Xmas are holiday songs and the former just had the advantage of not being on ACR :P

(unless there’s some joke that I’m not getting in which case feel free to r/whoosh me)

I used to criticise Italy for not counting streams yet towards the chart, but after seeing the level of arbitrary rules on the UK chart I'm starting to change opinion

BAN CQPQRQN AND AXE EASTENDERS!!!

It only being available to stream on Amazon was a fairly big roadblock x

Mariah has absolutely no chance next year as Xmas day falls on Friday (looking forward to a Xmas day Chart Show tho yay!) so it's maximum day will be counted to the week after with 6 days of nothing...

She will most likely do enough on Xmas day and Boxing Day to break the fall so won't chart 39-18-7-2-out

True, but at the end of the day I could see more people going out of their way to find a playlist with Mariah on it than Ellie. It’s just another reason why I dislike a chart based on mainly streaming.

I also think it’s a bit unfair that all the Christmas songs are ACR (and the fact that it exists anyway) as it’s not really that fair.

Your right like. I expect this new year announcement is an evaluation of the impact of Christmas streaming on the top 40.

And to think The Modern "Industry" (I think it was) was disqualified from the chart in 2004 because the CD ran over the allotted time limit by SECONDS!

They're a lot looser these days, the OCC!
