Mariah has absolutely no chance next year as Xmas day falls on Friday (looking forward to a Xmas day Chart Show tho yay!) so it's maximum day will be counted to the week after with 6 days of nothing...

But you could also argue that people choosing to listen to spotify xmas playlists is exactly the same as Mariah is likely to appear as she appears in most of their playlists.

True, but at the end of the day I could see more people going out of their way to find a playlist with Mariah on it than Ellie. It’s just another reason why I dislike a chart based on mainly streaming.

I also think it’s a bit unfair that all the Christmas songs are ACR (and the fact that it exists anyway) as it’s not really that fair.

So All I Want for Christmas Is You has been number two on FOUR separate occasions. Talk about bad luck there..

Bad luck? I would rather class that as outstanding.

BUT IT DIDN'T SWLL THE MOST FING COPIES. MARIAH DID.THE RULES CHEATED HER OUT OF IT - ANS THEY PYRPOSEFULLY MADE THE RULES TO KEEP MARIAH OFF NO.1!!

FUMING

BAN FLPQRQN AND AXE EASTENDERS!! THERE IS NO REPRIEVE FOR THEM OVER THIS ONE.

Mark my words, this was the last chance for Mariah to get to number 1. The OCC must have changes coming next year to curtail these Xmas classics.

It really is chart manipulation in 2019 though, the amount of people claiming River came on about 5times the amount of other Xmas songs

I feel like if it was a song or artist less people liked there would be a lot of outrage rn

Damn Ellie getting to number means I can't compete my number's of 2019 playlist on Spotify. Incidentally there were 13 number ones this years- and three of them looking they could be one hit wonders
They’ll need another rule change to curtail these passive playlist listens. I love the song but the fact it’s #1 solely due to ‘Alexa play Christmas music’ is the maddest thing ever.

Man I don't post here much anymore but got intrigued and hoped Mariah would get the #1 - especially as that feels like the song that the public would be requesting the most this week. I mean that's the point of streaming isn't it? To get rid of the manipulation that record companies had back in the day (Louis Walsh buying Westlife and Boyzone singles by the truck load springs to mind). I guess no matter what, the charts will always be manipulated in one way or another.

And to be honest, this is why I don't care for charts anymore, and I guess why I don't really post in buzzjack anymore. The battle for this weeks #1 peaked my interested because of Mariah vs Stormsy. If you wanted either to get it you would have to actively stream it yourself, but then it turns out that my Auntie asking Alexia for Christmas music, hoping to hear a bit of Slade and is treated with Ellie is a bit.....wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I actually love Ellie's song and without the manipulation I'm happy she's #1

I remember that until 2009-2010 that top 200 excluded between positions 76-200 all the tracks dropping sales for two weeks in a row. That made the chart far more interesting.

I do listen to streaming, but mainly look for each track individually and play it. That should count more than just playing what a "3rd party" (being it another listener or able) has selected.

One day Mariah may be finally number 1. There just needs to be demand/consumption for it.

Agreed there's 12 days in Christmas and this is just day 3 ;)

If there are 12 days of christmas why do people put their trees up in november (in that cas we already had 6 weeks )

 Oh be quiet. Ellie did more, simple as that.

But she didn't though did she? MC's sales were cut in half!

Well those are the rules. I don't agree with ACR but what can we do about it?

So is it confirmed that the OCC will be making changes to the chart soon? As I’ve seen many people post that this year was the best chance for Mariah to reach #1.

Really surprised at the result. Didn’t realise amazon had so much influence. I guess Alexa being common in many households has been a big help.

Been a fun chart and thread! Thanks to those involved for sorting this one out.

Wtf are you talking about?! IT IS LITERALLY YHE MOST FING STREAMED SONG AND THE MOST BOUGHT FING XMAS SONG!! THAT. IS. CALLED. THE. HIGHEST. DEMAND. OF. THE. FOOKEN. WEEK!!!! FOOKEN. WHOLE. WEEK!!! FOOKWN WHOLW MONTH AS WELL MORE LIKE!! ABAOLUTE DISGRAVE!!! THEY CHANGED THE RULES TO STOP HER BEING NO.1. THAT IS ALL!

It's evident that record companies don't care much about the UK chart, otherwise Mariah would make complaints for all this
