May 24, 20214 yr Still waiting for residency cards here in Iceland, pretty much everyone in the expat community keeps asking where they are. They've been constantly pushed back since November. The immigration dept. here is unless.
June 15, 20214 yr From The Metro. The UK has secured a free trade deal with Australia in the first major agreement negotiated from scratch after Brexit. Downing Street said the tariff-free deal will see British products such as cars, Scotch whisky and biscuits become cheaper to sell to Aussies. Britons under the age of 35 will also reap the benefits of being able to travel and work in Australia more freely – suggesting the farm work requirement on working holiday visas could be scrapped. Boris Johnson said ‘This is global Britain at its best – looking outwards and striking deals that deepen our alliances and help ensure every part of the country builds back better from the pandemic.’ Industry leaders have raised concerns over possible compromises on food standards, while farmers fear they could be undercut by cut-price imports. In a statement setting out the benefits of the deal, the government said it will eliminate tariffs on Australian favourites like Jacob’s Creek and Hardys wines, swimwear and confectionery, as well as increasing choice for British consumers and saving households up to £34m annually. It said distillers will be helped by removing tariffs of up to 5% on Scotch whisky, while car manufacturers in the Midlands and the North of England will see tariffs of up to 5% also cut. https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/15/boris-jo ... i=14773236
June 15, 20214 yr The detaials have, of course, not been published. This means we only have the word of a serial liar which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
June 15, 20214 yr From my understanding the trade deal will increase GDP a massive... +0.02%. We're still yet to see the details, of which I'm sure will somehow screw over British farmers.
June 15, 20214 yr Umm ... spo why is that good, but yet the EU is bad? Because they don't speak all funny over there, 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup innit. Let's not talk about the carbon footprint of ignoring our nearest customers. Do the Australians want a load of Brits over there - certainly not at the moment with Covid. And it's not exactly that the air fare is in budget for most people.

June 15, 20214 yr Global Britain! We can move to Australia... except Australia is currently locked tight until 2022. What a win!
June 15, 20214 yr So they’re gonna let us do a working holiday visa without the 3 months in the hinterlands requirement? That’s it?!?! We’ve just f***ed over our farming industry and all we’ve got in return is the ability to remove only one requirement of the working holiday visa. THATS IT?!? f*** off even I could negotiate a better deal than that. Useless c**ts
June 16, 20214 yr Australian beef will become much cheaper than British beef meaning that more Brits will be able to afford it. Great news. I love beef but we don't have it often as it's too expensive. Of course British farmers are moaning but they'll just have to produce theirs more cheaply then and take less profit. The news that Aussie wine will be cheaper is great too.
June 16, 20214 yr Why is it great news that UK farmers will be undercut because Australia applies lower welfare standards? This is exactly why the EU are adhering strictly to the rules aJohnson signed up to.

This is exactly why the EU are adhering strictly to the rules aJohnson signed up to. You've misunderstood me. It's not great news but it's good news for UK consumers. Beef can be expensive. We'd eat far more if it was cheaper and Liz Truss said on Sky News that it will be. It's all about competition. British beef farmers will have to work harder and produce theirs cheaper then and sell it to the big supermarkets and butchers more cheaply.

British beef farmers will have to work harder and produce theirs cheaper then and sell it to the big supermarkets and butchers more cheaply. Australian beef is produced more cheaply because farmers pump the cows full of growth hormones. That is banned by the EU and remains banned here. The only way UK farmers will be able to compete will be if they too are allowed to use growth hormones. That will mean they can't export to the EU and any products using beef produced that way will also be banned from the EU. Beef is one of the most environmentally unfriendly food products there is. Importing it from half way round the world will make it even worse.

The news that Aussie wine will be cheaper is great too. You what? Producing it cheaper would mean far worse animal welfare. Also, importing beef from THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD increases pollution at a time when we should be decreasing it. Lastly, have you f***ing even seen the cow farms in Australia, you ignorant, ignorant man? The COWS (as that's where beef comes from x) don't even see grass (ever) and hundreds are rammed and crowded together in these unnatural environments. They're vile. But as long as you can eat a bit (soon to be) hormone-pumped red meat more often eh!! You also missed the memo in your slavish devotion to the Brexshit religion: red meat is bad for you and bad for the planet.

British beef farmers will have to work harder and produce theirs cheaper then and sell it to the big supermarkets and butchers more cheaply. Then become vegetarian. That seems like a far easier solution, plus a beneficial one, unlike the pollution, bad animal welfare standards, and more animal murder that you seem to be advocating? Not to mention the livelihood of British farmers... And here I thought that Brexshit was about patriotism, but in sevice of the Brexshit religion, you are willing to throw UK farmers under the Australian double-decker bus. Interesting.
June 16, 20214 yr red meat is bad for you and bad for the planet. I know that and I eat fish 4 times a week as I love it. Nothing wrong with a bit of beef though. It's processed meat, particularly pork like bacon, sausages, salami etc that's bad for you. I still think we've got a great Aussie deal and the Government seems to do too. Liz Truss was full of praise for it on TV today. Yes we need other deals but this proves we can do one ourselves without interference from the EU and their daft rules and regulations. Edited June 16, 20214 yr by common sense
June 16, 20214 yr Yes, I’m sure Liz Truss would be completely and openly honest about such a government failure, so it must be a great deal.

What particular daft rules and regulations do you have in mind? Are you suggesting the ban on hormone-treated beef is daft? As for your other statement, would you expect Truss to issue a statement along the lines of "I've negotiated a deal. It's shit"?
June 16, 20214 yr Let’s put it this way Chris. I would trust what you say far more than what Liz Truss has to say and That should speak volumes because I don’t trust one word that you type in this section. Liz Truss is an incompetent moron that makes Hancock look like a Mensa member. And it’s been five f***ing years how can you STILL not name a single bad EU regulation. I’ve eaten plenty of Aussie beef in my Time and it’s nothing special. Scottish beef is far superior, it’s why we pay more for it. (Also it is cheap in the UK vs other EU Nations. A steak is much more expensive in Germany for example) Nothing we have been given by Australia in this deal is worth the damage this will do to farming in rural England, Wales and Scotland. Not that you give a f*** about anyone else
