It would have been nice if they had shown some humanity and mentioned how they are going to help people. They did not even say the word family once. That's a disgrace.

The BBC mentioned earlier that you can meet family members in the park as long as you are "socially distanced" from Wednesday. I suspect we will hear more tomorrow when MPs and the press get time to read the 50 page document. Don't really understand why that wasn't all sent out at the same time myself but hey ho.

Agreed it's not nice, but can't see it being too much longer myself. We're pretty much in lockdown in July anyway.

The speech is going to cause more harm than good. I've been noticing a lot more people out recently and this whole "stay alert" message is going to further increase the amount of people going out. I wouldn't be surprised if we see another uptick in cases and deaths over the coming weeks. I'm honestly disgusted at how the government have been handling the crisis and how incompetent they've been.

I can’t see it happening but can Scotland and Wales go against Boris and open schools and shops before 1st June or do they have to follow the ‘plan’ Boris has announced?

They can but they won’t. They’re looking after their people. Wales have already said schools won’t be back on June 1st when Boris stated that as a target for England tonight.

Except he never once mentioned that his waffle applied to England only.

But people have got to start taking some accounability for their actions. It's OK for us to go outside now from Wednesday, the Government have said this so I don't see anything wrong with it. They've also said to social distance. If you get groups of people from different households walking around then it's an obvious flaunt of the rule. The virus isn't going away. Cases will always rise with more testing. Clearly the big problem we have is the care home situation, but no-one in the government seem to have a handle on how to fix it, which is concerning.

The slogan is a pile of shite though.

I really don't think it's fair to blame the public, that will be what the government will want.

It really really really isn't hard to provide a clear and concise message that everyone could understand. His first briefing when we initially went into lockdown did that just fine?

Exactly. As I said before, the first rule of communication is to keep the message simple. That's how Johnson & co won the referendum. After all, does anyone remember any Remain campaign slogans? The message from tonight (I didn't see it as I don't want to have to replace my telly after throwing something at it) seems to have been far from simple.

Apparently furlough is being cut on Tuesday!

Surely they can’t just just do that especially as they said we are covered until the end of June?

And what about those of us who work in schools which remain closed by order of the government?

Can you give a link please as I can't find anything about that. It continues until 30th June as far as I was aware.

Personally I honestly don't get why people are so hung up on the marketing slogans for the campaign. It's a load of shite agreed, but it's just words.

People ignored the last message too. Just think we've all got to do our part as shite as the Government are, we all know the risks and as morbid as it sounds these risks are not going away anytime soon. Germany has been praised here, but their R rate is creeping up over 1. Fact of the matter is it's going to be near enough impossible to properly stop community transmission. If we all stick inside and wait for a vaccine for a year, well that's an outcome that's probably worse than the virus itself.

It doesn't matter if it's just words, it's the message that the government are sending out. Yes people might ignore the last message but more people will take risks if the government attitude is perceived as being more relaxed and laissez-faire surely? I don't wanna be mean but really a good quarter at least of the public need everything spelt out for them and even something as simple as a slogan change will change people's attitudes. I honestly don't get why people will be apologists for everything the government is doing!

I’m not sure what your role is, but teachers are still being paid as we are still working. Our support staff are also doing shifts looking after key worker kids so I’m pretty sure their still being paid too.

The messaging is shite, I'm not an apologist. I just think people expect too much. But from Wednesday we are effectively in lockdown, without actually being in lockdown by my own interpretations. If people take that message as in they can go and have a full-on party with their friends and family, then I would suggest that they would have done that anyway even if the message the previous one.

Maybe the Nandos style alert system might make more sense tomorrow.

That is literally the point.

That is literally the point.

I've already said the slogan is a load of shite, we're basically in lockdown without being lockdown until July. The Government are massive tossers, nothing has really changed except we're not being asked to stay at home anymore. If people choose to interpret that as let's throw a massive party, then I would suggest they would have done it anyway. People ignored the previous message and will continue to ignore the next messages.

But people have got to start taking some accounability for their actions. It's OK for us to go outside now from Wednesday, the Government have said this so I don't see anything wrong with it. And the government need to start taking accountability too. They've made many mistakes so far, which has in part lead us to having the highest death toll in Europe so far and only second to the US worldwide.

I work in a school as support staff, I'm on furlough because they filtered out who would be furloughed by role, everything's pretty much online support now and I'm not a teacher. I mostly provide practical support with music tech so I can't really work again until schools are back.

I really hope that furlough thing is just a rumour. If work's there I'll go, I'll have to (and want to honestly) but what if there's nothing to go to??

We're absolutely not ready to come out of lockdown and any easing (which we're also not ready for) should've had much clearer lines drawn. Expecting a 2nd wave now and maybe even 2nd lockdown in June which would be utterly disastrous- both in lives lost and a double hit to the floundering economy.

Yeah it's really not fair to start advocating personal responsibility on the people of Britain when it's clear that the Government have botched it with vague messaging and transparent, uncaring desires.

When people start coming down with it because they went out after this weekend we shouldn't be blaming them for wanting some freedom, and we certainly shouldn't be blaming them if they are forced to interact with people at work or on public transport, we should be blaming the government for unhelpful rules that the public will not follow because they're pretty damn unclear and aimed at getting back to normal fast, whatever the cost... and the cost will be a second wave which will just make everything worse.
