They're at #163 on Apple Music (peaked at around #110 this morning) - so not completely absent from streaming.

Certainly doing better than I expected on there.

I think they might just about go to #1 and possibly get an extra week top 40 as well.

It’s nice to see growth in pure sales though regardless of what the track is its nice to see there is still some of market for it.

Just the other day my mam was saying how he’ll be #1 and chart master me was giving it all but you don’t know how the chart works he won’t get playlist support and iTunes means nothing. Oops I was wrong x

It would be nice to see a track like this go to #1. Yes not to everyone's taste. It's a tonic that is needed during this time.
Really happy for this weeks number 1 however slightly Pissed of Dua lipa hasn’t managed a number 1 with her 3 banging tunes.

Huge hits yes Don't Start Now and Physical. It is frustrating to manage 3 in the Top 10 for two weeks that's impressive.

Probably not. But the “newsworthy” number 1s (like this one or something like 3 Lions) are probably good for small talk chit chat and therefore it’s no surprise media outlets would rather report a chart that’s more quick to react.

Eg “Did you hear that 3 Lions is number 1 in the [big top 40] chart?” when it’s actually at its most popular

is probably better than “Did you hear that 3 Lions may get to number 1 at the end of the week [ie midweek number 1]”

And is definitely better than “Did you hear that 3 Lions got to number 1 in the [official] charts today?” (almost a week after it’s peak sales, and it’s actual *moment* has passed)

I'm pretty certain I have never seen a 'media outlet' reporting on anything from the Big Top 40? I thought your point was about people posting stuff on Twitter or whatever.

edit: after Googling it there are a couple of outlets reporting on this being #1 in the Big Top 40 to be fair but I also do see just as many reporting that it's 'set to be #1', referring to the midweek chart, or just stories about it going to #1 on iTunes. The ones reporting it as just going to #1 as if this is the actual chart are largely trash sites like The Sun and Daily Mail which I stay away from so if this is something they do frequently I wouldn't be aware of it :kink:

^^ In fairness most media outlets have stated he’s #1 - some mentioning the Big Top 40 but others just outright claiming he has the top spot - ITN, Metro, Mirror, Daily Mail, The Sun, Express, and Daily Record. The only one stating he’s set to hit the top spot is the Evening Standard.

I guess the media don’t care at the moment though tbh, it’s makes a nice news story although it would be better if they were encouraging people to buy it rather than claiming victory.

Its helping give the song coverage so hopefully it will get more sales from it

The media (and artists themselves) repeatedly confuse/deliberately ignore the difference between The Big Top 40 and the Official Chart. I feel like it's a distinction only chart followers understand. I always see "so and so number 1 on charts", and I know (because I'm a geek) that they mean the Big Top 40. It's frustrating because we live in a world where people read a headline, take it as gospel and it becomes fact.

^yes

While unofficial videos or other user-generated content will not count towards artist streams - official videos played on YouTube, Apple, Tidal and Spotify will.

The new rules will kick in on Friday 29 June, 2018 and have been approved by record labels and BBC Radio 1, which broadcasts the chart each Friday.

Come on people. Let’s get Captain Tom to #1. If he gets #1, it would be #1 for his 100th birthday next Thursday

I'm so championing him

Looks like we’re getting another charity single for the ‘Big Night In’ event. Radio 1 have done a ‘Stay Home Live Lounge’ session with loads of singles covering ‘Times Like These’ by the Foo Fighters.
 How on earth did they manage that?!

I love how they quote it as the Official Big Top 40 Chart
