I know of course anyone who's booked in Jan/Feb fair enough but people have went for it due to a cheap deal. Why not go to the Lake District instead of the CEO of Failte the Donegal Atlantic Coast. Imo a CEO of that kind of big government company should make a point of holidaying at home considering their position corona virus or not.

Well of course they should, but there are numerous examples of people across the world making rules/guidelines for the rest of us to follow and then continuing to break them themselves.

Anyway I think the issue is the airlines have so much power and sway. But there rightly is the need for a normal 'getaway' and as we've seen in the United Kingdom, lots of the getaways in the UK are seemingly overrun with your mixture of holidaymakers and day trippers.

The numbers in Belgium seem to be stabilising

Still growing hard in Brussels and Wallonia but Flanders seems to be declining on a whole. Im mildly confident we can get this inder control before it starts to explode in The Netherlands so I can flee again

I know it's so selfish with all that going on, can't you just give it a miss for ONE year like.

I see the CEO of Failte Ireland had to resign after going abroad even though its against government guidelines.

More like Slán Ireland then.

...I'll get my coat.

We’ve got a lodge booked the weekend in October. Not sure if we’ll be able to get away to Finland for my 30th in March but we’ll see. :(

Looks like more 14 day quarantines will be imposed this week for Croatia/Turkey/Greece.

The Ch4 news bulletin by Alex Thompson was quite scary, still really imbedded in many countries - 50k deaths in India, only 3 more deaths in 24 hours here but over 700 new cases.

It's why I find the idea of international travel just daft. You're just unknowingly spreading the virus between countries, it's how it spread in the first place and how it will continue to spread if allowed. Pretty much all of the cases in Victoria, Australia have been linked back to overseas travel.

That's pretty much every British staple holiday spot on the quarantine list now bar Portugal and Italy. India will be the next hotspot of the world (although arguably it already is).

The R rate is really getting out of control in both parts of Ireland at the moment. Worse than England at the moment perhaps. They need to put more restrictions like moving all social distancing back to 2m and restricting people being able to meet up with each other in groups right now, if not back to lockdown levels then significantly.

On the Ch4 news map tonight Portugal was on the list.

I don’t understand why the quarantine rules have never just applied to everywhere. I know it’s not wise to go abroad right now but knowing that quarantine rules will apply wherever you go would actually make even the biggest holiday makers reconsider their travel.

I suspect they were trying to appeal to the travel industry, airlines, other countries tourism boards etc. - it was a hastily announced plan. Don't get me wrong, it was done in good faith but it just seems ridiculous now.

It’s a blunt instrument. Why not make use of testing. Make people take a free test on arrival and 5 days after. If they’re positive then they quarantine. If not, then they’re free to roam.

Local tabloid here is making fodder out of half of Berlins current case numbers being made up of returning holiday makers. Testing is the most effective instrument that catches even asymptomatic returnees and keeps things moving

Pizza Express to close 73 restaurants in a desperate bid to save the chain, according to The Express. 1,100 jobs could be lost.

Have only been once, with my sister when she came to London to sign the Probate oath for my mum's estate. Wasn't too impressed. You get an individual pizza and wasn't keen on the choice of toppings they had.

Looks like my home town of Telford could be following Leicester and Oldham by falling victim to the local lockdown
I wonder if they will put Ireland on the quarantine list.. can't see it myself but its above the 20 cases per 100,000 threshold.

Don't know why this wasn't let through yesterday. My late daughter's Uni friend's dad was weeks in IC but back home now. Nice story and lovely family.

A FRONTLINE nurse who spent four months battling coronavirus has spoken of his relief to finally return home.

Reynaldo Bautista, 61, spent more than 100 days on a ward with six weeks on a ventilator.

At one point medics even designated him ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ as he was in such a critical condition.

It is thought to be the longest hospital stay for any NHS worker who has recovered from the deadly virus.

He told The Sun: “I am feeling much better finally, particularly now I have been reunited with my family after a long time.

“Seeing my family and my loved ones again - it’s like I’ve been given a second life.

“I want to thank all of the medics for their care, they were amazing.”

Pubs and restaurants are pulling out of the scheme for half-price meals due to rude customers and being too busy to cope.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/uknews/124391...m_source=pushly

Under the scheme, which came into force earlier this month, restaurants charge customers half price - up to £10 per diner - on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and then claim the money back from the Government.

But owners say a surge in demand on these days has led to staff being shouted at, and "physical and mental stress."

It comes as the Government revealed it was set to pay out £180million to cover the cost of the discounted meals so far.

The Tavern Inn in Newquay is one venue that has pulled out of the discount scheme, which is capped at £10 per diner and does not include alcoholic drinks.

Owner Kelly Hill told the BBC: "It has brought us nothing but negativity due to the huge demand, causing long waits on food, tables over-running and hostility towards our staff.

"People are ordering big, big meals; they are not willing to wait for their food; our staff are being shouted at for having no tables, or for the service being slow.

'RUDE' CUSTOMERS

"It's put an awful lot of strain on our waiting staff and iamspamspamamistaff."

Sharing their frustration, owners of the seaside restaurant the Paddock Inn near Tenby, Pembrokeshire, said revellers were advantage of the widely-popular scheme and had shown "extreme levels of rudeness" and caused staff "nothing but grief."

Who f***ing wrote this garbage, oh dear. Yeah, connect it to the half-price strategy thing. ANYONE who works in a service industry, especially food-related, will assure they get rude customers every single day.

Ireland has tightened some of its Coronavirus regulations, so I have a feeling that the six counties might end up doing the same soon enough, our R number is above 1, and there's been a few local outbreaks in Co Down, so restrictions could be on the cards.
