The things I’ve seen on twitter seems to look like a fairly reasonable bit of policing for the most part. The protesters turned violent outside the Russian embassy which probably means that a few embassy “staff”’started chucking bottles and then ran back to safety while it all kicked off. Not that I’m at all skeptical about the reasons a march turned violent in front of the embassy of a hostile authoritarian regime. Nope. Not me.

The far right then brought shame on themselves and the entire country by trying to storm the parliament. Honestly so embarrassing.

I live in the inner city so for all of yesterday I had reduced public transport, rolling street closures and a police helicopter overhead until 11pm. They didn’t come by the HQ of the state security services thankfully so I’ve been spared with actually being on the parade route this time but I was ready to lob the inedible bits of the fresh pineapple I’m cutting up at them from the balcony.

These people are so so so f***ing thick. We have some of the most lax restrictions in Europe, and in comparison have only really had Sweden as being more relaxed than us. We were not fast out the gates (still beat the UK) but we didn’t go as firm as everyone else. I’ve never been banned from meeting up with other households *indoors* through the whole pandemic. We’ve been chill and come through in fairly decent shape in comparison. And yet still they moan. It’s like they’re so indoctrinated by their bullshit echo chambers they don’t see what is happening literally on our borders.

And honestly. The 5G wing nuts, grow a brain already. The less said about antivaxxers the better, the absolute scum of the earth.

Also Russian media is mostly portraying those protests as “against Merkel”. As if she’s literally some kind of ruthless dictator that faked elections, stole money and lied her ass off about everything for years and years and years. Oh wait, I think someone else fits that profile perfectly 💩

People are so gullible and easily manipulated it’s crazy. If anything COVID showed us its that we can survive even something like this. Yet look at the PURE HATRED those right-wingers spout on a daily basis just because they decided they can.

The government has rejected a Labour call for an early announcement on whether next year's exams will be postponed to allow for extra teaching time. No doubt we can look forward to an announcement at the end of April.

The government won’t have even started to consider that yet. They just need all the children in childcare so that they can try (and fail) to get the plebs back to offices.

You really have to wonder what the Department For Education have been doing for the last six months.

Interesting report in the NYTimes this weekend suggesting that the PCR tests for Covid-19 are too sensitive and the delay in testing means we are getting positive results (and subsequently asking to self isolate) for those that have long since passed the point of being contagious.

So needlessly isolating when they're no longer contagious yet going about their business beforehand whilst they actually are... yep that sounds like the level of competence consistent with everything we've seen so far.
So with 1000s of cases each day now in England would we expect in a month or so for increases in hospitalisation? It doesn't seem to be the case as much at this time?
Probably because most of the cases reported now are asymptomatic or less serious & don't require hospitalisation.

Most cases around Europe are with young people now.

We've been gaining nearly 4k cases a week in The Netherlands, bit hospitalisations have actually decreased in the past 2 weeks.

That, in combination with more widespread testing compared to March and April, will make the current situation look worse. However of can spiral out of control quite fast if older people become less and less careful. It is guessed that in Belgium, now 1 in 3 cases are confirmed by testing, while in March it could've been as low as 1 in 30.

A lot of the cases are being driven by 4 things at the moment:

- Outbreaks in workplaces where social distancing is tough eg food processing plants

- People traveling on holiday

- Socialising in bars where masks aren’t worn and social distancing is lol at best

- Illicit/Illegal housepartys/Outdoor raves

Our state government is bitching big time about the last one and calling for federal guidelines/law......when the state guidelines are some of the most lax in the federation

I kind of thought that was the reasons but would they not spread it easily to families who are older or suffer from other ilnesses?

Yes, the increase in cases is partly explained by increased testing but also there is now greater spread proportionally as Tim says through the younger and healthier population - we saw the same initially in Germany with all those who had been skiing returning in February, which is why the death rate there was comparatively small to begin with.

It's possible that this part of the population are generally more independent and therefore not living at home and less likely to carry the virus to more susceptible older people, or that there is much more care being adopted between younger and older people but let's just be thankful that the hospitalisations are continuing to fall.

In my personal experience I've seen the willingness to social distance is higher amongst those who live with their parents than those who live on their own. For instance I keep more distance from people and rarely go out to bars to protect my parents, but when I'd live alone the "need" to distance would be a lot lower, if you get what I mean.

I also haven't hugged my grandparents since february either

I think on the whole people are being a lot more careful around those considered "at risk". Certainly I know a few people who won't see grandparents as much as they used to etc. etc. - many people still too afraid to go out and do anything. There is more testing now, better knowledge of the virus, more ventilators and treatment which we know boosts surival. There are also a few theories that the current bout of Covid circulating is a mutated form which is a little weaker.. but I think that is just theory and speculation for now and isn't actually proven.

In general, viruses tend to get milder. The assumption is that the same applies to Covid-19. Some circumstantial evidence supports that but that doesn’t count as scientific proof.

Agree it's hearsay at the moment, but it's positive that if it is mutating its milder rather than stronger. I think the big key will be the winter months anyway.. otherwise I'm not sure how you can have a socially distanced Christmas family get together. Office parties cancelled this year too.

I am quite sure that a lot of people have had family get togethers of some sort anyway (maybe not as big a get together as Christmas albeit) after it became legal again to do so.
