Immunity doesn't occur until 7 days AFTER the second dose- the doses have to be given 21 days apart... so in total 28 days from the first dose until apparent immunity. That would be 5 January 2021 for those vaccinated today.

Gobsmacked that Angela Merkel has given Germany "10 days to get the infection rate down" as opposed to imposing extra restrictions straight away.

As I thought would happen, while Spain, the UK, and Italy are all recording falling cases Germany still seem to be increasing in daily cases. Oops

So all secondary schools in my area will be closing to students this coming Friday. Staff will still go in and provide work online and also a good time for us to catch up on marking.

This has been an absolute relief. I’m now confident I will not have to self isolate over Christmas.

My college is also doing entirely online lessons next week so I'll be working from home too. It's a good thing really as the trains are getting increasingly packed :x

Wales sounds like it’s having a bad time according to the news

From BBC News:

Sky News presenter Kay Burley and three colleagues have been taken off air while an investigation into breaches of Covid guidelines is carried out.

Political editor Beth Rigby, north of England correspondent Inzamam Rashid and presenter Sam Washington are also off air while the inquiry takes place.

BBC media editor Amol Rajan said Burley's estimated 800k a year job, as breakfast presenter, is "hanging in the balance" tonight..

It follows her admission that she "broke the rules" while celebrating her 60th birthday at the weekend.

The journalist said she could "only apologise" for her "error of judgment".

Burley said she had been at a "Covid compliant" restaurant on Saturday and had later "popped into another" venue to use the toilet.

Amol Rajan said she was one of a party of 10 people at the Century Club, a private members' club on London's Shaftesbury Avenue. Her group took up two tables, with six people on one and four on the other.

Burley then went onto Folie restaurant, where she used the toilet, before moving on to a private residence where individuals from at least three households mixed, Rajan said.

"This is a source of deep anxiety among Sky News bosses," Rajan said. "There is fury within the Sky News newsroom at the compromising of the brand, especially after Sky News has had a strong year."

Rigby, Rashid and Washington are reported to have been present during the evening, although it's not known which parts they attended.

Kay Burley won't return to her job this year. A decision in the New Year will be made as to whether she has a future with the broadcaster, Sky said tonight. Senior executives are said to be furious that they've "compromised the brand" and put them in this difficult position.

Compromising indeed. How can she go on air and continue to be as pompous and sanctimonious as she is when she herself breaks the rules?

I can't see how she can. I think they may have a legal enough reason to get rid of her now as she's brought the company in to disrepute. She always said if they tried to sack her she'd take them to a tribunal claiming ageism. She's been vehemently against Cummings for what he did and keeps saying she hasn't forgotten but now she's done the same if not worse. Can she ever tell anyone else off about breaking the rules? They'll turn round if they've any sense and tell her well you did it.

She's flying off to Africa tomorrow on a pre-booked trip working with lions. Is that even allowed after Saturday?

Wife says employer's daughter, 15, has to quarantine as a girl in her class, 2 seats away, has tested positive. She's had a test as her auntie's a GP so can get them and is negative but the school still says she can't go back until January now.

I believe cases are rising in London so we'll be in Tier 3 soon. :(

My nephew had to self-isolate for the same reason. He should be back at school by now.

Does seem inevitable but I really don't see how this will change anything. A vast majority of people are gonna be leaving London for Christmas travelling all around the country anyway plus everyone knows we're gonna be in another full national lockdown in January so this move is pointless. It's only gonna penalise the hospitality sector once again where risk of transmission is tiny anyway.

Sounds like the Sky employees will keep their job. Sky have just said they're "very sorry" and Burley has agreed to not appear on air for 6 months and the others for 3 months. Yeah bet it's on full pay too. So they'll probably do editorial work in the offices instead but on the same pay.

I don't see how Kay Burley can ever go back now, all her credibility and authority has gone.. ditto for the others involved.

In the meantime, let's remember this classic Burley tweet from 5 years ago after the awful Paris attacks.

Sky have got their best ratings ever I think. They are just hiding her for 6 months and by then probably hoping Covid is over. She should have known better really as like you say, it loses all credibility for Sky News now.

Sounds like London and Essex are game for Tier 3 next week..

My parents are hoping because we're in Scotland for Christmas this year at my sister's (right on the border - Coldstream), that we can go to the pub. No matter how many times I tell them that won't be happening she still insists.
