I'm going to deliver a blistering attack ont the government's apparent decision to stop free lateral flow tests as they can't be arsed to continue paying for them (they are tesing the waters by making them completely unavailable right now to anyone trying to get some). They are playing lipservice to supply them to the vulnerable but the reality is that is a f***ing lie. My mum has been bed-bound for 3 weeks since contracting a non-flu non-Covid chest infection and what this decision effectively does is place the responsibility on carers to make the decision to stop people visiting because they can't now test before coming into the house. It's basically privatising Covid to allow companies charging £30 for one lateral flow test to make hay while the f***ing sun shines for them, while also basically deciding that everyone is going to get Covid anyway now so it might as well be sooner than later. Testing someone who is vulnerable to see if they have Covid already is pointless as it's too late then. You need to test people who might have it so they don't pass it on.

 

Just because this strain isnt quite as deadly as the Delta strain (only 300 people a day are dying rather than 2000) doesn;t mean the next variation won;t be. Tories have shown their true colours, as they were always going to, because for all their lip service bollocks they have shown throughout this pandemic that they dont care about vulnerable people dying because it'll save money in the long run not having to pay the NHS to help them as they get older.

 

Old people, it must be said, should not in any way shape or form be voting for a party that wants them dead and forgotten so they can start bigging up the economic benefits of having a an overall younger workforce without annoying coffin-dodgers (except the rich ones of course who will continue to run the country) draining resources.

 

Not even having a PM who stupidly caught Covid and nearly died due to being a f***ing moron has in any way changed the mentality of the Tory party and their blinkered supporters. If it weren;t for scientists and vaccines saving the day it would be blatantly obvious that they dont have a clue or care.

 

So, I'm livid, and the press need to make this a huge vote-losing issue.

They wanted to end free lateral flows in the autumn too didn't they? Imo they have leaked this to the media to gage to public opinion. At some point for us to switch from a pandemic to an endemic there does need to be a switch, but not sure this is the right method, at least not right now. But can already begin to see the switch of policy for asymptomatic people happening across the world, so can't be too long until if you test positive and have no symptoms it is just business as usual. China must be making billions from us buying all the tests from them!

I'm still not sure that's why they moved heaven and earth to keep Cummings. But is probably likely part of the reason. Seems on this particular incident lots of people were against it, as a bad idea within Number 10 but it went ahead regardless. Agreed, just not a good luck. I think a lot of the summer attitude comes from Boris having covid and knowing he had some immunity.

Sadly I don't see this having much more than a temporary effect. And if it does then they'd go after Johnsoin rather than the Tory party, who the powers that be want to get rid of anyway for being too "left wing". Let's face it, revolution in the UK is not going to happen.

What are peoples thoughts about cutting the isolation period from 7 to 5 days? This worries me to be honest. They have already cut it from 10 days and its not based on proper medical research. It appears to be more a political thing to help the economy rather than ensuring people are protected. I don’t trust anything that the Tories say or do regarding covid.

I don’t think the general public will forget this though. There are a lot of people who are angry about it. Particularly those who were unable to see sick relatives or say goodbye to dying loved ones. It may not have any immediate effect but it certainly undermines Johnson and his government and will do further damage to the party.

I think the constant dripping of things over the last few months is having an effect. Mainly due to Johnson continuing to lie and then something else coming out. Its eroding away at the Tory support - obviously not the brainwashed diehard. Will be interesting to see the next Opinion Polls and if Labour is further in front (or if they've remained where they are and the Tory's have dropped back).

The 5 days at the moment imo is way too soon, but like it or not it is going to happen within the next 6 months imo. I suspect at some point this year if people test positive but are asymptomatic they will be allowed to not self isolate and just go on. Think this is already happening in a few places including some states in Australia. Right now the move is political and not sure there will be ever any science to fully back it up, but it's going to happen 100% this year imo.
