They were generally a bit more settled than they were when the came in briefly before Easter but it’s more the stress of the exam situation. Less than seven weeks to be teacher, examiner, invigilator and moderator of whole courses when usually we’d just be teaching and then of course you have all the non exam classes on top of that.

Some of those pictures on BBC News of the pub gardens look worrying in terms of lack of social distance between groups I certainly wouldn't be going near them! I know pubs they have to make a profit to pay their staff but am I the only one on here uncomfortable about anything approaching the old normal yet?

latest rumour here is that after the federal government has finally taken legal control away from the states over lockdown rules (some 13 months into this f***ing mess) this week, Angela is gifting us a lockdown extension until f***ing June WITH a curfew. Berlin's "take a free test and go to the shops/hairdresser" concept getting murdered by Ang because our incident rate is over 100 and she's gonna force the emergency break on us. and yet only when incidence rates hit 200 will the f***ING SCHOOLS SHUT. The schools are driving Germanys third wave because they're the only cunting thing thats open.

was für ein Albtraum. ehrlich gesagt, ich kann kaum glauben, dass wir heir in diesem verrückten verdammten Scheiß noch stehen. Unsere Politiker sind Vollpfosten.

Nah as long as you're outside it's fine. The one that was on the news from Coventry was dodgy as anything, not too sure about that one. But for the main part there is so much pent up demand people are just going mad, but it's hard to blame people as most people are just catching up with friends. The first nice weather weekend is going to be absolute carnage unfortunately.

45-49 year old in England can book their 1st and 2nd dose on the NHS website. I’ve just booked mine!

Yes. We can't keep living life in fear forever, I mean you can if you like but personally I was so happy being able to dine outside a restaurant again yesterday evening and will hopefully be visiting a pub with a few friends at the weekend. The numbers are looking good, the conditions were met to allow restrictions to ease as they have so are you just expecting people not to go and enjoy/make the most of it now it's legal again?

Also the news is obviously going to be using pictures of the busiest streets and venues and the majority probably aren't that bad, they wouldn't use a photo of an empty beer garden

I'm not interested in hospitality until it re-opens indoors. Can't book anywhere anyway in London plus I've gone without for 6 months so can wait another until the step 3 relaxation comes into effect (hopefully). I also think when this initial buzz settles pubs will struggle long term as everyone will just meet in private homes as its way cheaper.

Gyms reopening is the big win for me🏆

Northern Ireland still behind rUK in opening up (due to ROI being well behind us in its vaccination programme), click and collect for all retail restarted yesterday, as did car washes and garden centres. 26th April is when we’re predicted to get hairdressers and non-essential retail open, so fingers crossed on that. On the positive side, vaccinations are now open for 40+, so at this rate I’m likely to be offered mine in 2 weeks.
Let’s hope the executive doesn’t collapse or we will be locked down forever 😂
"Concerning to note that an outbreak of the South African variant in a care home affecting 23 individuals occurred in a borough (Lambeth) where barely 50% of the staff have received one dose of a vaccine according to the most recent data."

What happened to Care Home staff having to be vaccinated? Seems to have gone from the public eye at least. I will say, I think this is the one and probably only profession where I would support mandatory vaccinations unless there is a medical reason why not. Definitely gonna speed up plans. Sounds like 13 staff caught the infection and only 1 had a 1st dose of the covid jab.

Don't make me bring out the Cher GIF!

The risk of transmission outside is TWENTY (20) times less than indoors in an enclosed environment - there is basically a very very small risk, which is why the Government have opened up outdoor retail and hospitality first. The level of virus within the community has now fallen to levels of around the end of last summer, which of course is still about ten times higher than at the minimum in mid-late July but is at a reasonably low enough level for this to be absolutely fine.

Obviously it depends how big beer gardens are etc. but yesterday evening the only thing that made me uncomfortable was the temperature outside!

Also concerning for public vaccine confidence that the J and J jab has been suspended in South Africa and the US because of the possible link to very rare blood clots.Although of course its right they investigate.
The pictures of lastnyt on Soho looked very busy, although outside there was no social distancing.

Janssen/J&J have themselves elected to hold back deliveries to the EU while this is investigated. Given their deliveries were going to be more heavily weighted towards June anyway and quite sparse this month (e.g Berlin expecting only 20k doses on the first shipment which is f*** all for a city of 3.7m) so feels like the smart choice to get it sorted now and avoid the yo-yo bullshit that happened with AZ

They seemed to have learned a lot from watching AZ make literally every f*** up in the book and have been super transparent about everything.

Likely that we will see an age cap like with AZ so that effectively the 60+ get the AZ/J&J and those of us under 60 get the fun mRNA ones. If germany could learn some flexibility this could really help speed up our roll out

Only a week probably until those scenes happens closer to home. I certainly won't be going out to the bars, although both my parents have had one vaccine it's too early for me to be taking that sort of risk, although we'll probably be back in lockdown in autumn again once foreign holidays have introduced new Covid variants to the UK so I guess I can understand people making the most of it while they can.

Please can you stop? I know you’re scared and I feel for you but this doom mongering really isn’t helping. If you’re not comfortable, no one is forcing you to do anything but can you just wait and see what happens rather than immediately jump to the worst conclusion.

I don’t see another lockdown now no matter what. I know at least that I really will struggle if it did happen again.

I could still see another lockdown, it all depends on the hospitals I suppose. If they are at any stage of collpasing I suspect we will lockdown, but this will be Autumn/Winter time I suspect. All the news so far is really positive, the only minor problem at the moment is there are certain towns/cities that have far higher covid rates than most of the country, reckon it depends on how fast we can get vaccinated in the Under 50s now

Given that AZ are the one pharmaceutical company supplying vaccines on a non-profit basis, it is unfortunate that they have ballsed their PR up so badly.

Although the small print seems to suggest that that non-profit period isn’t actually too long and given that they didn’t shell out to R&D it they’ll make a f*** tonne in the long run. That is if they haven’t absolutely destroyed their reputation in the interim
