December 18, 20213 yr I see Khan's declared a state of emergency in London. He says there'll be no police, firefighters or binmen working soon. It's all scaremongering. We don't know anyone who has Omicron. No-one. A nurse at Newham hospital that we know says it's not as bad as they make out. Certainly nowhere near as bad as last year. Yesterday in London, 100 ambulances were sitting idle because there was nobody to drive them, largely because drivers had tested positive for Covid. A similar number of fire engines were unavailable for the same reason. That is a simple fact. A single statement from one person at one hospital doesn't change that.
December 18, 20213 yr We have a quasi lockdown for the unvaxxed and honestly I would like us to go further. I have been triple dosed, I don’t see how I should put my entire life on hold still because some gullible dipshits don’t know how to think critically and believe f***in anything they read on Facebook or telegram. Over it. Either get your jab or be prepared to get locked down in yer house until you do get it. And you believe everything your government says. In a couple of months you'll likely be asked to get a fourth jab, so good luck with that. ;)
December 18, 20213 yr True, I guess. But a lot aren't and are just conspiracy theorists / selfish people. I don't know, it seems unfair and I'm just bored of my plans getting ruined yet again. This isn't living. I'm just really frustrated. I don’t particularly want another lockdown myself but unfortunately we are in a periless situation. Rather than focus on it being a bad experience, you could look on it as an opportunity to do things you wouldn’t normally do such as catch up on old TV programmes, redecorate the house etc. Dont allow the situation to affect you as you can’t change what will happen.

We don't know anyone who has Omicron. No-one. A nurse at Newham hospital that we know says it's not as bad as they make out. Certainly nowhere near as bad as last year. I mean people are dropping like flies at my work and my dad's work (he works in the NHS). Plus a lot of my friends/family have been getting it. It's not scaremongering at all. Cases are rising crazy fast in London and all it takes is for a couple staff members to get infected to then spread it to all the others and suddenly you have a police station with no policemen or a fire station with no firemen etc. It'll be worse once Christmas happens. That'll likely be a huge spreading event.
December 18, 20213 yr And you believe everything your government says. In a couple of months you'll likely be asked to get a fourth jab, so good luck with that. ;) And I’ll take it. And then I’ll have a far better chance than you of making it to this time next year without a medical team intubating me coz I was too thick to take a life saving vaccine. But maybe you get off on needlessly wasting hospital resources with something you could have avoided with a simple vaccine. I believe my government because they have proven themselves to be trustworthy, an epidemiologist is my health minister, and because I have enough intelligence not to be easily lead down an easily disprovable bunch of bullshit I read in some dark corners of the web
December 18, 20213 yr The public are largely against any further restrictions (unlike in the early part of the pandemic) so I think it's highly unlikely that anything will happen. Furthermore, Boris Johnson's authority is completely shattered anyway so it's doubtful he could introduce anything even if he wanted to. I think it's also worth pointing out that a lockdown would be completely pointless now anyway, the peak in hospitalisations that are coming are already baked in. The peak in cases will be very soon because Omicron is very transmissible. I think there’s a lack of creativity in the UK restrictions. I agree, we shouldn’t shut non-essential stores. BUT, banning the disease monkeys from entering them is a smart move that would find wider support.

No

And then I’ll have a far better chance than you of making it to this time next year without a medical team intubating me coz I was too thick to take a life saving vaccine. More than 99% of those infected with Covid-19 in my age group survive the disease, so don't worry, it's very likely I'll still be here this time next year. :smoke:
December 18, 20213 yr More than 99% of those infected with Covid-19 in my age group survive the disease, so don't worry, it's very likely I'll still be here this time next year. :smoke: It's not just about YOU surviving. It's about looking after others and the vulnerable. No one has a choice to put other people in danger, it's so selfish and entitled.
December 18, 20213 yr The most selfish attitude. I just can’t. You don’t know how far your chain of infection goes and to whom. If you kill someone, because you couldn’t be arsed to get a simple vaccine how will you sleep at night?

But I suppose if you’re statistically ok, we’ll just forget those who aren’t.

Remember when vaccination was 'the end of Covid?'
December 18, 20213 yr I'm fully vaccinated, but with respect the vaccine can't be that effective if we all need a booster now.... Remember when vaccination was 'the end of Covid?' So what? We just take our chances? There’s no guarantees so there’s no point trying?
December 18, 20213 yr I'm fully vaccinated, but with respect the vaccine can't be that effective if we all need a booster now.... Remember when vaccination was 'the end of Covid?' When I had the Hep B vaccine before travelling, I was told in order to get long lasting protection I’d need a booster after a year. I went back 3 years later and got the booster because they now had more information and knew the protection was longer and the booster now was effective. This is on a traditionally developed vaccine with long lasting studies and they still learned things about it years later. My point, how the immune system works is incredible and complex and poorly understood. So it’s natural that we learn more about how the vaccine works and survives over time because we didn’t have the time to do a 5 year phase 3 trial. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad vaccine. It’s actually very effective, it’s just come up against an opponent that evolves a lot and has partially evaded the vaccine because they’re built on the wild type that is hideously different to Omricon Also, for the record, you need boosters for a lot of vaccines. The HPV one for example is 2 dose but if you’re older then a booster is required to top off your protection. You need DTaP every decade, doesn’t make that a bad vax. You need an annual flu jab. I can go on. The science is still developing, and given this virus is 2 years old and the vaccine is a year old, that is to be expected. We just roll with what we got and trust the immunologists to keep us safe. That’s all we can do
December 18, 20213 yr I guess our current situation is the consequence of getting rid of the red list and allowing unrestricted travel to low-vaccine-percentage countries. And of course not helping those low vaccine uptake countries out more with their uptake. Both factors have allowed new variants to emerge and spread. Faith in the vaccine and vaccine uptake may be eroded in the future by us having a lockdown after Christmas because people thought they were getting the vaccine to maintain their freedom to meet their friends and family. Advice for shielding should return right now certainly for the vulnerable and certainly nightclubs should close now. I don't know if opting for another full lockdown is over-panicking or not and whether we should wait and see if the hospitalisations increase a lot first. Considering the hospitalisation and death rates in South Africa seem to be lower for Omicron than Delta and also that the vaccine booster still seems to work somewhat in reducing hospitalisation and death rate chances. Although looking at the evidence I am inclined to agree with the SAGE scientists and act out of caution and think we shouldn't wait for more evidence about Omicron or wait for hospitalisations to rise further but introduce restrictions as soon as possible. December 18, 20213 yr Netherlands in full lockdown from tomorrow: @1472265981615616015 I hate it here. Half of Europe will probably follow suit as well
December 18, 20213 yr German states calling on the federal government to red list the UK. Guess I can wave goodbye to my new year plans
December 18, 20213 yr German states calling on the federal government to red list the UK. Guess I can wave goodbye to my new year plans  And that has now happened. First time in over a decade I had actual NYE plans and Covid has come and shat on them. 14 day mandatory quarantine, no early release and no exemptions for vaccinated. f***ing Boris and his useless shower of c**ts. Not to mention the merry band of dipshits who refuse to get vaccinated. Literally loathe every single one of them right now
December 18, 20213 yr The vaccine does not stop covid, but it will stop most people from having a bad reaction to it. By this point if people don't see this, then they are deluded. Would advise these people to stay off Twitter.
