It already has - southern Africa?

Fair point there. But we don't have much data (South Africa aside) compared to the climate we're currently in.

I dunno tho, because beyond ZA, the testing infrastructure isn’t quite as good and you start getting into the realm of numbers you don’t quite believe. (Ie we have no true idea on how much „natural“ immunity is in the population)

And more importantly, demographics means that they tend to have a younger population and less vulnerable people to the rona. Will be more interesting to see it rip through some of the Eastern European countries like Romania or under vaccinated sections of the US like Florida

And now I've tested positive myself :(. My symptoms are varying throughout the day but mainly just aches and lethargy with an intermittent cough. I had no symptoms at all yesterday, it creeped up very quickly this morning.

Well I've got it....for the second time. First time I had it was before the vaccines were out etc and I felt DREADFUL. This time, I feel a bit tired and under the weather but generally okay otherwise so hopefully showing that the vaccines do work.

I'm okay as I can work from home, or if I do feel worse get full sick pay. My boyfriend however only gets statutory which is next to nothing as far as I'm concerned - it's ridiculous and I'm certain in some cases FORCING people who are positive to go into work without telling anyone anything.

The way things are going it would be the luckiest person in the World who NEVER gets Covid at all for however long the pandemic will last for. My own symptoms have developed into a slight runny nose and the cough I had yesterday has gotten a bit worse but it's still not that bad compared to the worst scenarios. I feel as if I have probably had Covid before in late 2019/early 2020 judging by symptoms but it was before it became more wide known and before testing and vaccines etc....

Really?! It seems you are clutching at straws. South Africa has the biggest HIV epidemic in the world, with 7.7 million people living with HIV. HIV prevalence among the general population is high at 20.4%, which basically means its immune compromised population is one of the most vulnerable in the whole world.

I know loads of people that have had it now but seem fine.

I'm kinda curious if I myself have long covid now. Do you test positive if you have it?

Not necessarily.

Its mental how people are thinking about it now. My parents refused to get tested in case they found out they had it & would feel obliged to cancel a work thing.

But I'm like. You're still going to have it if you have it.

So my Christmas and New Year was pretty shit. My brother caught covid just before christmas and my mum not long after meaning I've not seen either of them and then my friend who was hosting a NYE party caught it too (plus family still positive) meaning I've done naff all to celebrate. It's worrying that so many people I know who went this entire time not catching it now have it.

Sorry to hear that Lewis. : (

I have been testing every day because I was petrified of giving it to my sister-in-law who is immunocompromised, anyway so far still negative on the LFTs and my booster was over a week ago so I should be ok for now. My Mum did have a bad cold/sore throat over Christmas but she was testing too and came up negative and everyone stayed well away from her!

Johnson is on bbc news saying the pressure on hospitals is going to be immense over the coming weeks due to covid so what’s he going to do about it! Sweet FA so far. Hospitalisations are up 70% compared to last week and many staff are off sick. As a result, many hospitals have issued critical incidents meaning they are unable to provide critical care. It’s reckless that peoples lives are potentially being put at risk.

Would help if some of the public exercised some common sense like not going to hospital to try and get tests cos everywhere else is running out (although not running out would be good).

True to form, the government are asking us to believe two contradictory things at once. They keep telling us that they are following the data closely, and that their decision to do sod all is based on that data. When asked to show the data, they say they don't have it.

The issue now is any restrictions won't really have any effect, it's too late in the day.

If Covid is a glorified cold as I've heard said so many times I never want another cold in my life.... I've honestly never been this ill

Yeah I agree. This is no cold, the way it makes you feel is just soul destroying

I think it just affects people in different ways which is what is most dangerous about it. For me it doesn't feel too bad at the moment but for someone else it could trigger major breathing problems. There probably has never been an illness that can have so many different affects on so many individual people. There's also the people who have it for months as well.

Any additional measures issued now would surely help to limit any future spread of this highly contagious virus, protect vulnerable people and the NHS which is at risk of being unable to function properly. I’m not talking about a full lockdown but doing nothing will only lead to a longer more protracted period of higher infections but Johnson appears more concerned about the economy and upsetting the Apple kart within his own party.

So there's currently a million people self isolating and the gov ate going to do daily test for 100,000 workers. I'm no mathematical genius but.....
