Italy now too. Maybe Ireland as well by tomorrow.

The DUP would never agree to that

Children's education is important as Hancock said on Sky News this morning. It's not the same online. They had long enough off earlier this year. Even a medical expert on Sky after him said schools will always be the last to close and first to open.

What’s more important education or health?

The DUP would never agree to that

The Irish Govt. is deciding now whether to stop all flights in to Ireland for a few days.

I’d be surprised if they do as they never went this far during the first lockdown!

Yes but this new strain is 70% more transmittable.

They need to reconsider numbers in shops and social distancing guidelines in light of this new evidence I think. Also I am considering going into supermarkets for shopping with both the mask and face shield on for a double layer of protection because of this potent new strain.

Got a Tesco delivery so avoiding the shops a bit now.

I've heard they're banning all flights and travel in and out of Ireland for 48 hours? Not sure how reliable that is though.

That's good, is it not difficult to get delivery slots now from supermarkets?

They were all taken a few days ago, right until 30th Dec. but checked on Fri and they must have put a few more on so grabbed it.

Italy and Austria now added to the list, while France is considering it. Merkel pushing for a EU ban on all travel as well

Germany has a complete and total ban. Not even citizens or residents back in 😬

Silver lining is I’m going to be in Scotland more than 10 days now (although so far BA have only axed flights for 21/22/23/24 dec) so I can see a load of friends I wasn’t gonna be able to see. Well as much as I can under Tier 4

If countries would have implemented these travel bans at the start of the pandemic, say in February, I still wonder what would have happened with the pandemic....Of course there were probably cases before anyone noticed like there was in Italy but spread still would have much been slower I would think.

At the present time though if a country either a. gets its case numbers down or b. is making a great effort to through a lockdown, it makes sense to enforce a travel ban I think.

Personally, I would still wipe down my groceries with soapy water even if I got a supermarket delivery just to be on the safe side. Anyway, supermarkets should prioritize delivery slots for the elderly and vulnerable I think.

France is completely closing the border with the UK.

And so they should do : France Dec 19th case numbers 17,565, UK Dec 19th case numbers 27,052

France is completely closing the border with the UK. Wow, this is like 28 Days Later !

Come tomorrow there will be no way out of the UK into western Europe if it continues this way.

They aren’t exempting freight this time either, it’s a complete shut off. Freight can come in but given it’s uncertain they’ll get back I’m willing to bet that there’s no EU hauliers who are gonna take that risk

Eurotunnel and ferries closed too — how insane.

The irony of talking about 'taking back control our borders' for years, only for Europe to still have control until the bitter end.

+35,928 new cases UK today.

The NHS is going to be overwhelmed isn't it. : (

1/3 of the new cases are in London. No wonder it has been shut down.
