That was brilliant. I’m so happy for her. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

To start in qualifying and not drop a set the whole tournament is astonishing. Emma Raducanu could be the greatest British sportsperson of a generation.

For both players, the Sep 11 attacks are a historic event that happened before they were born. I feel old

I know I was starting uni the day it happened and now Im nearly 40, the defining event of this century which prob feels like WW2 to them as they werent born until 2 years after it.

Isnt it a pity the centrists had to fall into the attackers hands by invading half the middle east in reaction.

Such a lovely match to watch, to see two young players and future stars in the final was amazing and so happy for Emma - wow at winning her first major at 18 as a qualifier!

Wow! What an incredible story this turned out to be, so pleased for Emma! What a career she has ahead of her.

And she comes from Bromley where I have just moved to *. She'll be getting a hero's welcome now.

Apparently, there is a men's tournament as well. Is anyone famous in it?

Djokovic? heard he was going for the grand slam of grand slams but not sure if he got to the final or not?

I think the money will be quite a big thing for an 18-year-old  It must be many times more than her total winnings to date.

Oh Im sure it will of course but they dont do that at wimbledon for example and its just typical Americans!

Yeh Djokovic is in the final, really would like to watch that too, Ch4??

Absolutely incredible!!! So pleased for her, and now an instant multi-millionaire as well!!

Canadian born daughter of immigrants. A perfect poster person for the multicultural Britain we used to be proud of

At least the Daily Mail can final agree shes a Brit now shes a winner!

I'm so pleased to see Emma win the final. Leylah Fernandez played so much better than her previous opponents but she managed to raise her game to an even higher level. I'm old enough to remember Virginia Wade winning Wimbledon but that was a long time ago.

Let's not forget she was supposed to play the number 14 seed, Jennifer Brady, in the first round but she withdrew with an injury and was replaced by Stefanie Voegele, ranked number 128, so maybe her name was on the trophy from that point on.

She's now 1/10 to win SPOTY. I wonder when was the last time someone who hardly anyone had heard of at the start of a year ended up winning the award at the end of that year.

Such a sensational final of tennis - they both kept a high standard throughout - and at a combined age that is only 1 year older than I am!

I hope both go on to win grand slams in the future.

Mad that Emma got through it all without winning a set!

Also, loving the emotion from Tim Herman 😍

great match! crazy how the men's final is #1 vs #2 while the women's final was #70 vs #150 :D

and great multi-ethnic origin for both, Leylah's father is from Ecuador and her mother has Filipino origins, but was born in Canada. Funnily Emma was also born in Canada and his father is Romanian and hr mum has Chinese origins. Love the mix.

Quite something - I only watched the final game from a wedding, but this feels like a real moment in women's tennis. Fernandez, Gauff, Raducanu - there's multiple Slam potential in all of them and they're all 17, 18 or 19- absolute madness. Probably a good thing because of the inevitable hype and attention that's going to happen now there's not a Slam until January, gives her plenty of time to adjust to the mega stardom.

Winning the tournament without winning a single set really would be mad

Going back to the C4 fee, apparently Amazon have put the money straight into women's tennis.

That's good!

Such an incredible final - I enjoyed it lots but was a bag of nerves throughout most of it and stressing towards the end of the 2nd set. Just no words to do it justice rly, absolutely amazing from Raducanu especially at such a young age and what a huge role model and inspiration for young ppl she will become.

The final shot she broke serve with in the 6th game of the 2nd set was the moment for me. I've watched some finals in tennis that just looked apathetic and a dull procession but this had drama, grit, excitement, tension, everything. Brilliant stuff, and although I felt a bit for Fernandez at the end when everything stopped just as she was building back momentum from the brink of 2 championship points, she can definitely hold her head up high for such an incredible achievement and being part of such a great final.

If Emma does win SPotY (I think it's a formality personally) then she'll be the first woman to win since 2006.

Just caught the last 20-25 mins of this and thoroughly glad I did! A really exciting game to watch and was great to see two young women with plenty of grit and plenty to prove fighting it out! The enormity of Emma's achievement is really quite something and I hope she gets celebrated in the mainstream as a result! SPOTY pending!

Relatively easy win for Medvedev ruining Djokovik's chance at getting the 4 grand slams in 1 year...

Medvedev was serving too well

Medvedev played brilliantly yesterday even if it wasn't a top form Djokovic. His serving was largely brilliant. I was rooting for Novak to get that calendar grand slam but sometimes you just have to take your hat off to the better player on the day and indeed the whole tournament.

Didn't see the women's final, hopefully it was a decent match :D
