I didn't realise Betty nearly left last round in the end! It seemed to have a surge at the start & end of voting in the last round and picked up nothing during the middle period :lol:

Is it not fairly obvious why it would be a polarising song? It's by far the most country-sounding song on the album, which is a good thing for some, but very much not a good thing for others (including me x). I expect it'd fare pretty well in a vote for the best song on the album as well.

 

With that said, I voted for 'betty' again, but I think 'peace' would have been second in line for my vote (and 'hoax' third) so the results are looking pretty good so far.

I get your point. I can see that it would divide those who like country and those who don’t - I think it’s safe to say I fall on the side of enjoying the county sound from Taylor, hence why I’m enjoying her first couple of albums. But it’s not obvious to me because in this instance, I’m surprised that so many Taylor fans aren’t keen on the country sound. Looks like it’s going out anyway.

That’s pretty much the same for me to be honest, but I think that was more because of lack of exposure at the time.

For instance in Popjustice’s Big Pop Girl rate, out of the folklore songs, Betty came 11th out of 17 and Peace came 12th. Also Betty fared much better than this in Buzzjack’s first impressions rate, it came 9th!

Saying that though iirc from when I counted up the results it was by far the most divisive song! And was the only one getting a few low scores so in a format like this on Buzzjack, I’m not surprised it’s going out so early! (Though I did think it’d be more like 14th than 2nd last!)

personally Betty is the worst lyrically by far

 

'betty' deserves better (it stood out to me on the album when I finally finished listening in December.). There were a few songs right in the middle that didn't massively connect but it's 'hoax' again for me!
