June 10, 20214 yr Woah 'Ant Rap' sold 100k+ in one week?! Amazing! It's an... interesting song  but the percussion is pretty cool. 'Set Adrift on Memory Bliss'
June 10, 20214 yr Surely you didn't just post in here after reading the title of the thread and literally nothing else
June 10, 20214 yr Crazy that each of #2 to #5 sold between 107k and 110k in the same week in 1981. Ant Rap was the #4 that week - guess the #3 is coming soon too.
June 10, 20214 yr Surely you didn't just post in here after reading the title of the thread and literally nothing else Surely he did
June 10, 20214 yr PM Dawn!! Love that track, uses the sample sublimely and I much prefer it to the original Spandau Ballet track.
June 11, 20214 yr Author 26. ONE OF US- Abba (108,000) #3 No 1 in 21 weeks in 1981 Released at a time when the band were disintegrating and employing a cod reggae-esque beat, “One Of Us” became a swan song of sorts and their final top 10 single. Tipped by some to be the Christmas No 1 for the year it narrowly missed out but at least launched “The Visitors” to the top spot similarly becoming their final No 1 studio album. IIKAe8Wi0S0
June 11, 20214 yr Author 25. SOUVENIR- OMD (108,000) #3 No 1 in 21 weeks in 1981 As near as they ever got to No 1 “Souvenir” remains a fine piece of early 80s synthpop with Paul Humphries taking a rare lead on main vocals. The video was filmed at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire incidentally (which is lovely by the way) and was the first single from the album “Architecture & Morality” a must have in the cannon of synthpop. rOnDzgRma_M
June 11, 20214 yr Love both of those! 'Lay All Your Love On Me' and 'One Of Us' definitely my favourite ABBA hits to not make #1
June 11, 20214 yr Author 24. STOP THE CAVALRY- Jona Lewie (114,000) #3 No 1 in 21 weeks in 1980 Had the events of December 1980 not happened then this would probably have hit No 1, but events overtook Lewie’s anti war song which he later confessed was never meant to be a song associated with Christmas. -fv6ucWNHUo
June 11, 20214 yr I know it wasn't meant to be a Christmas song but it's still weird to imagine listening to 'Stop The Cavalry' at any other time of year!
June 11, 20214 yr 'Souvenir' is exceptional track- beautiful and not really commercial. But arty music did very well in the early 80s.
June 11, 20214 yr Souvenir is my favourite song by OMD and One Of Us is definitely one of Abba's best songs. Stop The Cavalry is also very good.
June 11, 20214 yr It's OK might be my favorite AK song, really liked it better than Eminem and Liberty X Show Me The Meaning is the best BSB single, but can't deny Toca's Miracle superiority.
June 12, 20214 yr I know it wasn't meant to be a Christmas song but it's still weird to imagine listening to 'Stop The Cavalry' at any other time of year! It makes me feel Christmassy with the horns and all. It was number one in France in July 😮
June 12, 20214 yr 'One Of Us' and 'Stop The Cavalry' were both number 1s on the NME charts. Indeed 'Stop The Cavalry' was number 1 in every chart that was published at the time (NME, Melody Maker, Record Business) except for the one that mattered.
June 12, 20214 yr Author 23. NONSTOP- Drake (54,774) #4 No 1 in 22 weeks in 2018 In the week that “Scorpion” was released this was the second of three Drake tracks in the top 5, he even managed to get Quavo and French Montana to guest on the promo. lJTRVX9R5EA
