Hello everyone and welcome back to the lovely République d'Áskorza for our confirmations event. Confirmations are being held digitally, but Governa République d'Áskorza has agreed to allow fully vaccinated delegations, with any vaccine recognised by the BJ-WHO, to enter the nation for the subsequent rounds of BJFest without a mandatory quarantine. (Subject to the usual immigration requirements etc)

This is the 6th edition of the wonderful Buzzjackfestivalen! For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, peep the OP of "The Festival Hall" where I cover off the basics of the format in a lil more detail. The TLDR version is that this is our rip off of Melodifestivalen, with 4 heats (each held in a different nation) before an Andra Chansen, second chance, round ahead of the grand final in Morpeth Cove. Its been 4 years since we last held one of these and we thought it was overdue a comeback. So, how should you go about confirming? Well before you hit the google form link there is a couple of things you should know.

The standard BJSC rules still apply along with one extra rule and one modified rule:

  • First, the extra rule. Songs must be a maximum of 3 minutes in length. They can be shorter, but no longer. The video however can be longer than 3 minutes, as long as the song itself is 3:00 or shorter.

  • The usual ban on Eurovision and Junior Eurovision songs is extended in BJFest to include any songs that have competed in national finals for either of these competitions. The artists remain fair game, of course, but the songs are strictly off limits.
As this is spin off, of sorts, the standard veto framework does not apply. However that doesn't mean it is a free for all. Moderator discretion still applies and we do reserve the right to veto any entries we deem against the spirit of the competition. In practice this usually means something we would autoveto in the main contest will still probably be booted.

Confirmed! An artist I was gonna re-use in the main contest, but kinda didn't want to if I could help it... so sending to the spin-off instead!
Submitted something that feels perfect for this, a little edgy, but packs a lot into its runtime.
Confirmed a summery ‘Ace of Base go MOR’ sort of song which is one of my favourites of the year so far. I had considered it for the main contest but it’s only 2:50 so suits the format here (and saves a fave potentially DNQ’ing!)

Had played around with three potential choices that I felt could also have their time in the main contest but ultimately went with the EDM route again bc if it flops (which I just know it wil bc it is what it is) at least it didn’t flop in the main contest

#BroLupus strikes back

I was listening to something in the past week or so that I thought would be perfect for this if it ever came back… and now I can’t remember what it was :(

#signsofoldness

Gone a bit cheap this month (assuming no one else claimed this artist / AV threshold isn't passed (which I don't think it should?)) but with laxed veto restrictions I feel it's my only chance at using this song
I have entered something I was considering for the main contest as one of my occasional more poppy entries, but probably wouldn't have ended up sending.

Oh my! It's been 84 years! :kink:

Everytime I've discovered a sub 3-min song since mid-2017 I've pencilled it in for a potential appearance in this but think I'm set on what to send.

I've been toying with sending my chosen entry to a main contest for some time, much as many others. Really excited to finally get to share it!
Kind of typical that in a year where I was mostly being pretty last minute in finding entries for the main contest, I'm just now starting to build up a backlog of potential future entries right as the main contest is on a break  but alas none of them are under 3 minutes so I am going to have to look separately for something for this. x
Going by past performance I'll probably be DNQing whatever I send so unless I change my mind later in the week I'll be going back in time for a lost Clubland anthem I'd had on the back burner for a while and save my more recent sub-3-minute potential for a main contest where it'd have a better chance.
Long song bloc right now:

It's horrendous.

I understand why Eurovision songs have to be under 3 minutes, but the gimmick of a song that's less than 3 minutes I don't think is particularly interesting as a theme (which is partially why I sent a troll entry to a previous iteration of BJfestivalen in the form of the radio edit of my own cover of John Cage's 4'33") but I wanna discover more music, as always, so I'm participating anyway.

Sending the only track from my monthly playlists so far this year where both the youtube video and the spotify track is under 3 minutes. Also the guy has the same name as me and is from the 'county' that I live in.
