July 11, 20214 yr I apologise for my comment I got a bit carried away. Just from us Scots point of view it’s not about actually hating England, it’s the English media and the arrogance! It’s always ‘we’ every time they are talking about England, it’s meant to be British friendly not just England. Especially Rio Ferdinand, he’s just so cocky. Commiserations to England though, they were extremely unlucky and just fell at the last hurdle. That’s fair enough the English media is disgusting I hate it too. I find it really sad that there is such an anti-english from the rest of the U.K. though, I was backing Wales all the way in 2016 when they got to the semis, it’s a shame the same feeling is not given back. Same with Scotland I cheer everytime you guys win medals at the commonwealth games. Not saying you have to support us but the comments against us are just rude and totally xenophobic tbh you’re judging the whole country on a minority or the out of touch media.

Where the team would definitely have been worthy winners, the non football consequences would have been unbearable. I dare say for many English people as well.
July 11, 20214 yr As if he hasn’t been carrying that kind of blame for 25 years already. Whatever the result, Southgate has been amazing for England and though they haven’t won, he and the team are the role models that England so desperately need. Agreed a semi final and a final defeat in two tournaments is a great return considering where they were in June 2016 when Iceland beat them. I really like Southgate and it annoys me a lot when people (most of whom don’t even watch or like international football until the tournaments) and criticise everything!
July 11, 20214 yr I am less than impressed by how Southgate started his player (no Grealish) and substituted Sancho and Rashford in 2 minutes before the game was over?? I don't blame those players missing the shootout. I blamed Southgate on this. This is clearly on him. It took an age to get the players on once they were lined up ready.

I think it’s just because England dominate the UK in most spheres so the smaller nations feel they don’t get a fair say.
July 11, 20214 yr Over the course of the tournament the best team has won. Italy are probably the best team not just in Europe but the World on current form. You don't go 34 matches unbeaten and not concede more than 1 goal in a match for 2 years without being a special team. More people including myself should have seen it coming before the tournament started with the records they were setting. If they carry on like this up until next year they will have a great chance of winning a 5th World Cup.

This is close to how I feel. I don't particularly respect people who actively wants others to do badly, regardless of the setting. In a sports sense I'd always want Wales, Scotland, NI or Ireland to do well and would be cheering them on - unless they were playing England of course

Half the team plays out of their usual system and position in a way that doesn’t suit them and he leans heavily on his favourites who he coached in the youth set up vs better players in the same position he’s less familiar with. He also tends to favour the Prem above all else. I can only assume trippier has compromising pics of Southgate or his missus because there’s zero reason to have him and Shaw on the same pitch. @1414342754109476864 I love this so much.

I hated this too, I get that they'd be frustrated but it's so ungracious! -x- Such a shame and a heartbreaking way to go out, but let's not lose sight of our achievements - 2nd place is excellent especially ahead of some real heavy hitters like France, Belgium etc., we've continually improved through tournaments and these players are still really strong and hopefully will still be on good form for the World Cup next year, and they continue to be wonderful people, I'm really pleased for them and Southgate remains the best manager in my lifetime at least even if he did clearly make some mistakes here. Congrats to Italy as they were always looking like likely winners right from the opening game and so it feels appropriate. They outplayed us for most of the game and did deserve to win even with the lottery of Penalties, it was a little more even in extra time, but we never properly looked threatening after that early goal. Those last three penalty takers were really the wrong choice given experience, but I feel so bad for them and really hope they don't suffer racist abuse. Rashford in particular is such a model human being so does not deserve it at all.
