July 9, 20213 yr It is sad to see stuff like this, but it makes sense that they are keeping vinyl as people will continue to buy them I'd be intrigued to see how much supermarket CD sales actually contribute to overall sales
July 10, 20213 yr That's answered my question. Went in the biggest one near us, formerly a Savacentre and went to browse the CD's. NONE. NOTHING.
July 10, 20213 yr Hardly ever in the large supermarket branches near us but went in the other week to look for the Now Yearbook. Sainsburys has already stopped stocking music and Tesco only had 2 copies of the standard CD. The only other shop in town that sells CD (a department store) didn't have any copies either. On the other hand the local indie store was doing great business selling the vinyl!
July 10, 20213 yr makes good business sense but will ultimately mean the christmas market will be just as bad for albums as the rest of the year now. I feel like the rest of the year will suffer. I can see them getting in a small selection of the big Q4 releases (mostly the - as previously mentioned in this thread - "Over 50" CDs) as impulse purchases in the Christmas gifts section, flogging off any leftovers cheapo/returning to the distributor afterwards. Kids aren't going to be asking for CDs enigh for them to worry about any others... Plus, the obvious Adele/Sheeran (probably nearly exclusively) releases.
July 10, 20213 yr I know sales will be lower at Christmas, but personally I am happy the charts won’t be clogged with Amanda Holden and Michael Ball type album’s for the over 50’s Still blows my mind that not only did Amanda Holden release an album, but people actually bought it.
July 10, 20213 yr It wouldn't surprise me if this made barely any difference at all. Supermarket buyers were always casual listeners and they've moved to digital now
July 10, 20213 yr Still blows my mind that not only did Amanda Holden release an album, but people actually bought it. Pretty sure she had the title of best selling debut album by a British female last year too!
July 10, 20213 yr I know sales will be lower at Christmas, but personally I am happy the charts won’t be clogged with Amanda Holden and Michael Ball type album’s for the over 50’s TBH these Christmas market aimed albums help pump money into the record labels for them to invest on other artists - if that market goes because the Amanda Holden/Micheal Ball etc., listener doesn’t use online and has no outlet to buy records then it’s a problem
July 10, 20213 yr Still blows my mind that not only did Amanda Holden release an album, but people actually bought it. She is the epitome of 'supermarket consumer music'.
