July 19, 20214 yr might be his weakest and doesn't have any wow song but still doesn't deserve a top 5-Out of the top 200 run I couldn't disagree more - it has several wow songs in my opinion (numb, monster v.2, streets of heaven, lose you again) and it's a hell of a lot better than Jubilee Road at least!! (I say this as a big fan of his for a long time)
July 19, 20214 yr I dont think it's Tom's best album - too experimental in parts and not in a way that improves the song. But still top 5 to outside the top 200 - brutal
July 19, 20214 yr He’s been unlucky that radio 1 have already dropped him imo! His first album will always be a classic though and ‘Another Love’ is an all time classic that’ll continue to recur when it’s played over the next 50 years! Edited July 19, 20214 yr by steve201

July 19, 20214 yr I’m not surprised at Tom dropping from 5-out. It’s a brilliant album but he has limited streaming reach and so much is thrown at week 1 sales (personalised copies, bundles, indie show ticket bundle etc.,) that this and so many other albums pull in casual fans to week 1 and then there is nobody left to help keep it stable for a few weeks. The same happened with The Vamps, Ben Howard, Blossoms, 5SOS, Ellie Goulding, Doves, Idles, The Snuts, You Me At Six etc., - the list is endless.
July 19, 20214 yr Out of those, Blossoms' last album did manage 6 weeks in the chart - so quite a few more than some of the others there.

Oh I don't think anyone's surprised at Tom dropping a fair amount, it's obvious and happens to most artists that have limited streaming presence. 4-x is VERY steep though, when Jubilee Road "only" dropped 5-32, so I was at least hoping for a 2nd week top 100...!

He’s getting diminishing returns from each album though and it’s longer and longer since his last hit, Jubilee Road would have lost him some of his fanbase that haven’t returned. I saw him at one of his Jazz Cafe shows a few weeks ago, the audience seemed like couples on a night out waiting to hear ‘Another Love’ rather than fans who were eagerly awaiting the new album.

Oh I'm not denying that at all, but 5-32 followed by 4-out of the top 200 is still a dramatic drop-off. (and honestly you get audiences like that at loads of gigs, I went to an Anne-Marie gig a few weeks before 2002 came out and the audience talked through anything that wasn't Rockabye/Alarm/Ciao Adios/FRIENDS, but that didn't stop there being interest in the album that came out just weeks later!)
July 19, 20214 yr Shame the Tones album isn't even top 100, although it probably doesn't help that 'Dance Monkey' isn't on it. I'm shocked to see 'Three Lions' still in the top 80, I mean who the hell is still streaming/downloading it a week after we were defeated in the final? Makes no sense

July 20, 20214 yr Shame the Tones album isn't even top 100, although it probably doesn't help that 'Dance Monkey' isn't on it. It is on the deluxe version, but even then the way album streams are done will spoil any boost the big songs do where the top three are weighted down. I am impressed Fly Away is becoming a hit as she was looking set to be a clear one hit wonder, though the fact fly away is doing well because of Tik Tok, it doesn’t indicate Tones has any solid fan base. If so, we would have seen more impact when it came out last autumn/winter.
July 20, 20214 yr ^Exactly, same with Tom Odell, big hit on Tiktok for months and months with Another Love, he releases a brand new album, no one cares :/

Makes no sense  Still doing well on Amazon, blame Alexa :D Yep still top 30 on Amazon as I mentioned yesterday, #28 this morning. Not completely sure on this, but if you ask Alexa to "play music", doesn't it generate a playlist based on your recent listening - so if that included a fair few plays of Three Lions in recent weeks, it might get thrown in as song 8 or something today, which many people wouldn't bother to skip? (I think it's advanced enough not to do this for Christmas songs in January, or they're on their own library or something).

Exactly; Anne-Marie had the bonus of recent big hits, Tom hasn’t reached the Top 40 since 2016 and apart from ‘Another Love’ returning has not troubled the singles chart since.
July 20, 20214 yr Exactly; Anne-Marie had the bonus of recent big hits, Tom hasn’t reached the Top 40 since 2016 and apart from ‘Another Love’ returning has not troubled the singles chart since. My point was more to do with the crowd only caring for the big hits, I could name countless other examples of that happening at gigs I've been to :P To put Tom's drop into perspective, Laura Mvula, who hasn't ever had a hit on the scale of Tom and only once troubled the top 40 with #31 hit Green Garden 8 years ago, fell from #21 to #92 in the Monday midweeks last week. She dropped even further by Friday and didn't end up top 200, but Tom's album charted notably higher than Laura's and I'd absolutely say he's a bigger name than her. Ultimately, the only point I'm making is that falling straight out of the whole top 200 is an extremely dramatic fall at this early stage of the week!
July 20, 20214 yr Wait, is Willow's album not showing up in the top 100 either? Or is not chart eligible for some reason?
