It might be worth discussing in another topic… but has anyone had an entry sent which was already confirmed by another nation… only for that country to then go on and win the contest? I mean of course as I’ve previously said I’m very very happy for Lookylion and as I’d confirmed all kinds of entries this month in an attempt to qualify I was bemused to learn that the first time I had an submitted entry already confirmed by another nation that entry goes on to win! :lol:

 

I was curious if this has been anyone else’s experience before? ^_^

I think it’s happened quite a lot. I know when I won with Goliath last year, two people confirmed it after me.

Congrats Lookylion, as everyone's always said, an incredible points total! I sort of twigged 'Holiday' as a contender but not a landslide winner, but since it didn't get points from me I'm glad that made no difference whatsoever. But my 18 (Hendinia) made the top 3, 'Diggy Diggy Hole' and 'Sirens' in the top 5 is iconic, and the whole top 10 was good so no complaints here. Is that Everyone You Know's best ever result here?

 

Honestly I thought Taahino could be a sure-fire top 10 so I'm sad to see it as low as 18th. I'd say Yehesi deserved top half as well. On the other hand, great result for Wholune, never ever thought I'd see St. Paul & The Broken Bones in BJSC let alone top 30 in the final!

 

I'm happy to have avoided the bottom 5, as usual just being in the final was a surprise for me so anything tonight was just a bonus. And sure enough, only qualified due to Mulgracia's deduction Anyway, thanks for the votes for Ladyhawke!

You were one vote off matching that particular obscure record! A.N.D.Y. - Minus One (feat. Tayla) {Aquafina LXIV} got 99 points from 23 votes. That was a one big final contest though, it's arguably a little more 'impressive' for Caroline given she had to get through a semi-final first.

 

(there was also Billie Eilish - ocean eyes (Young Bombs Remix) {Kluminican Republic LXXXV} which technically finished with 92 points from 23 votes, though that was after a deduction so doesn't really count)

 

edit: also most of the other songs that received high vote counts but <100 points were in contests with the 12 point/Eurovision voting system for fairly obvious reasons - if you restrict it to the even more laughably obscure record of 'highest number of votes in an 18 point system contest with semi-finals which did not reach three figures and did not have a deduction', that is all yours, comfortably beating the old record of 85 points from 19 votes for MIME - CONVERSATIONS {Ojnoj CXXXIII}. But that's getting a little silly. :lol:

first and foremost congratulations to lookylion on the win! this was a great edition to be part of, I've playlisted my top 8 which is the most I've done for one contest I think. fantastic to see my top 3 also taking the medal positions in the exact same order!

 

and also: top 20 wtf!!! :w00t: completely exceeded our expectations, in fact sources tell me the people of pagasa are in danger of sinking the entire archipelago into the ocean from jumping up and down simultaneously in celebration

 

I will thank all the countries who voted for us by name in our national thread but that was definitely more than a handful of medal points, and points from countries we didn't expect! ty ty ty, and thank you addy for the wonderful hosting job, the concept/graphics were top notch and well thought-out throughout!!

 

I do have a cute lil pop song lined up for the next contest or the one after ..... we will see if top 10 is within reach :~)

There will be a TBO competition that the mods will be organising soon, so keep an eye out for that.

We sorta redid the TBO concept when you were enjoying what Michael would call a sound recalibration.

 

Rejects is dead and so is nominations. Have only run the new method a couple of times but we already agreed to run it again this year as well. Personally I think it’s a lot fairer in terms of not only the make up of the song in it, but also that everyone is well represented and gets a chance. We’ve also seen some DNQ entires go quite far in the contest too, which is always lovely to see
