JoJo - Too Little Too Late

From 2006, this was the third top 10 single for the singer from Massachusetts. She had only one more top 40 hit after this one.

Mr Mister - Broken Wings

Broken Wings was one of two US number 1 singles for Mr Mister. The second one, Kyrie, got to number 11 in the UK. The group disbanded in 1990.

The Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A

Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman

Pendulum - Watercolour

From 2010, Watercolour is one of five top 40 hits for the Australian band and their highest charting single. Also here is Goodbye Mr A, the second top five single in 2007 for the Hoosiers. Whitney Houston loses her second number 4, a cover of the Chaka Khan song from 1978.

Pendulum!!!

I was a massive fan at the time even though I didn’t follow the charts quite as closely as I do now, so I definitely remember when that went in as a Top 5 hit!

There have been some great songs dropping out in the last few posts ('Watercolour', 'Goodbye Mr A', 'Everywhere', 'They Don't Care About Us', 'How To Save A Life'...) shame to see them go when they have points totals that would have been easily enough in the other ones of these polls you've done!

Beyonce - Irreplaceable

Strike - U Sure Do

This only reached number 31 in 1994 but was re-released the following year after taking off in the clubs. The vocal sample is from Serious by Donna Allen (1987). Strike had four more top 40 hits. All three of Beyonce's number 4s received votes and Irreplaceable is the first to leave.

Aww shame to see 'U Sure Do' dropping out! That song was forced on me from an early age (alongside 'I Luv U Baby' by The Original) because my parents love 90s dance and feel very nostalgic about 94/95 music from around the time they met (sorry if this makes anyone feel old!) - absolute tune.

Sam Brown - Stop

From 1989, this is another single that needed a re-release before it became a big hit. Sam's father Joe had several hit singles in the 60s.

Sara Bareilles – Love Song

The Source featuring Candi Staton – You Got the Love

Last year, the 1997 version of You Got The Love featured in the Ultimate Number 3 poll. I can't remember how far it got. This year, the 1991 version fails to make the semi-finals. Also here is Sara Bareilles' Love Song, her only top 40 hit and also the winner of BJSC4.

Lonnie Gordon – Happenin' All Over Again

Andreas Johnson - Glorious

From 2000, this was the Swedish singer's only top 40 single. The follow-up just missed out, peaking at number 41. We also have the Stock Aitken Waterman song Happenin' All Over Again which they wrote for Donna Summer but it ended up being given to Lonnie Gordon. It was her only top 30 hit.

The cut off point has been reached!

101 singles scored more than 80 points. There were two on 81 points. Rather than separating them on a tie-break, I am putting them both through. We also have 13 wild cards, these are the songs that were given 30 points by one voter but didn't receive enough points from others to go through. So there will be 57 songs in each semi-final with the top 25 from each one going through to the final. These are the wild cards, with the person who gave them 30 points in brackets:

30 pts Clean Bandit featuring Julia Michaels – I Miss You (Frenchie)

38 pts 5 Seconds of Summer – Youngblood (Jason)

38 pts Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (Boymetworld91)

50 pts The Emotions - Best Of My Love (garyfeld)

54 pts Genesis - Mama (King Rollo)

59 pts Billie Myers - Kiss The Rain (chrissmith276)

60 pts Ed Sheeran - Overpass Graffiti (Dj Cheeky Magpie)

61 pts New Order - Regret (Ansel)

62 pts Kylie Minogue - Never Too Late (Feel The Fever)

65 pts Gabrielle - Out Of Reach (JulianT)

65 pts Muse - Supermassive Black Hole (coi)

68 pts Erasure - Always (AH Gold)

79 pts U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name (jimwatts)

The first semi-final will start on Monday.

[breathes sigh of relief] well that's a fantastic turnout that's led to such a high bar! Can't complain about any of those wildcards as my 30 pointer was one of them (just), several good ones there and Ed Sheeran makes it past the first hurdle for the first time in one of these rates! Looking forward to the semis.

Incidentally I think You Got The Love fell at the same stage last year but I might be wrong. My favourite version is the one which reached #7 in 2006, though the OCC have combined it with the 1997 #3 version's run.

Nooooooooooo. Glorious dropping out at the last gasp is an absolute disaster. Especially then reading some of the, shall we say, lesser songs that have snuck through on the +30 rule!

'U Sure Do' and 'You Got The Love' both just missing out as well </3

I actually quite like 'I Miss You' and thought it was underrated on here at the time but I think it's definitely going to be a bit out of its depth here getting through from just one person voting for it :kink:

Phew that’s over! It’s been agonising watching so many great songs drop out since 50 or so. Looking forward to seeing the other 101 qualifiers.

You’ve for sure made me feel old  I gave it 6 points - loved that song as a kid - I can still remember what the tape single looked like!

Glad Out Of Reach made it through as a wild card - didn’t give it 30 but did score it. I lost track of how many I’ve lost before the cut off point - looking forward to seeing the semis.
