January 5, 20224 yr Was about to say exactly the same! I think people will complain a lot more if ACR didn't exist. It would become a lot more difficult for smaller acts to chart and a number of songs would literally stay in the chart forever.
January 5, 20224 yr Oh blimey, that’s the biggest twist on a midweek chart for a very long time, the drama! As much as I love Adele that really wasn’t needed at all, neither does Ed or a number of other tracks in there. It really it’s getting pathetic now with how everyone just has to be no1 for months (some way worse than others), although I suspect with Adele it might be they are after the British female record. She may as well just add someone like you as an extra track to 30 and be done with it  Poor Ewan mcvicar also having another peak at no14, if it wasn’t for all the resets ahead of it, he could have actually benefitted from that reset. Hopefully GAYLE and Sam build momentum next week but I feel like Sam might well peak at No3 which is a shame. Annoying week but I don’t know what been worse with charts lately, it’s been so tedious and frustrating to follow for weeks now. I seriously hope they have a significant change of the rules.

Some songs do stay around forever despite it.
January 5, 20224 yr A lot of smaller artists still don’t chart despite ACR. Some songs do stay around forever despite it. That's true but the amount not charting would be much greater without it. Not to mention a lot of songs that do seem to stick around forever will instead be sticking around forever in the higher parts of the chart as opposed to the lower half. With a lot that are likely just outside the top 100 moving up to clog the lower half. It would be a nightmare. At least for me.
January 5, 20224 yr A lot of smaller artists still don’t chart despite ACR. Some songs do stay around forever despite it. Precisely the point I was about to make. All it’s done is swept the streaming problem under the carpet, and we are now starting to trip over the bumpy carpet hiding all the big hits form the last 20 years, which are just one by one sitting in the top 100 and aren’t shifting. The singles chart will become a greatest hits chart in 10 years time the way it’s going. I agree we can’t go back to how it was but ACR needs replacing with something firmer that just clears the chart out. Edited January 5, 20224 yr by Supercell

Recurrency rules would work a treat and something I think would be really beneficial. But a lot of people are against them.
January 5, 20224 yr I do feel bad for Gayle, a new artist who a #1 would do wonders for her career Vs Adele who had one of the biggest singles of last year anyway. So strange her label would ask for a reset and that itd even be granted!
January 5, 20224 yr Can easily see R1 skipping ‘The Family Madrigal’ on Friday but would be fun if they do play it! Edited January 5, 20224 yr by Smint

January 5, 20224 yr How is Easy On Me an up and coming hit? I'm honestly surprised Adele's label haven't moved on to pushing the second single yet but whatever that's their prerogative but it peaked at #1 literally months ago and was a massive hit. It would be pushing it a bit to call Tell Me Something Good an up and coming hit since its been around a while and isn't really doing drastically better than it was before Christmas but Easy On Me jeez. Ironically before this reset we actually were going to see a really significant amount of tracks reaching new peaks.
January 5, 20224 yr Can't be cos it's not the current promoted single, that's OP They already bent the rules for him with the Peru song, and they hadn't bent that rule for anyone in the last 4 years Bjorkieeeeeeeeeeee
January 5, 20224 yr I'm honestly surprised Adele's label haven't moved on to pushing the second single yet but whatever that's their prerogative but it peaked at #1 literally months ago and was a massive hit. EOM is till #1 on spotify and apple, why would they move to the next single while this one is still the most streamed song in the country?
January 5, 20224 yr My blood pressure is skyrocketing from the inevitable salt mine coming re: Sam Fender being denied #2 because of this reset. Although with the way the campaign for this single seems to just never ever die I fully expect it'll somehow finally make its way to #1 in like June xx I do think it's a little silly to have granted 'Easy On Me' a reset but eh I guess it's technically within the label's rights while we are still in the purgatory of the follow-up single being either unclear or nonexistent so can't blame them for doing so ~ Was kind of hoping that the earlier update meant the OCC had quietly scrapped this post-December SCR reset rule entirely but nevermind. Out of all of these resets the only one I think really fully makes sense is 'Coming For You' given that got a big remix this week anyway. Interesting that Ed's album is actually looking like it'll be further ahead of Adele's than it was last week despite losing most of the extra streams it got from 'Merry Christmas' being tagged on. So presumably would have been returning to #1 this week just from the strength of the original tracklist.
January 5, 20224 yr Poor Ewan mcvicar also having another peak at no14, if it wasn’t for all the resets ahead of it, he could have actually benefitted from that reset. Well, #15 is his current peak so he will be benefitting if he goes to #14 instead :kink:
January 5, 20224 yr EOM is till #1 on spotify and apple, why would they move to the next single while this one is still the most streamed song in the country? For the same reason Ed started pushing Shivers while Bad Habits was still everywhere, or Olivia dropped Deja Vu when Drivers Licence was still everywhere or Lil Nas X moved on to Industry Baby even though Montero was still doing very well on streaming services. Not only had they been out for months but they had peaked in streaming numbers and had long since reached the ultimate chart success of been a #1 hit.
January 5, 20224 yr I mean why wouldn’t they ask for a reset for Adele to give it a few more weeks at No 1? I’m surprised at the weird overreaction. They can still start pushing the next singles at the same time, though with Oh My God and I Drink Wine already being top 5 hits it doesn’t seem that likely they’ll repeak anyway.
