(once again labels are allowed to request a few resets in this chart, as per last year, for current singles only)

She asked for a reset because she’s greedy enough to hog the top spot. I’d rather have Ed Sheeran at #1 over Adele

I don't think anyone's genuinely the how they managed to pull it off, more how on earth they're allowed to do it for songs that are already in terminal decline.

Have you actually seen the streaming chart? It's even more of an utter mess, and I'd really not want that as the official chart.

I was against streaming and sales being put together in the first place and still don’t see a good enough reason to do so given how messy it’s all gotten.

And no, I only look at the official chart. If we still get sales and streaming charts separate then we don’t really need a combined chart. It’s literally only happening because previously there was only ever one ‘official’ chart.

If it’s the case that only the recent single is allowed a manual reset, then Adele’s team should give OMG a reset and focus on getting that to #1, unless it’s on SCR
This is a once-a-year occurrence to avoid the mess of a few years back when loads of stale songs got reset post-Christmas. This is a smaller effect than we'd see with that happening. Labels can request manually resets all year but the OCC only tend to grant them to songs that are actually up-and-coming hits.

Ironically none of the resets two years ago affected the #1 spot, apart from one of the few songs that didn't get one (Dance Monkey) - so I'm not sure which is worse. Plus if they'd set it so that songs have to increase by 25% irrespective of the market, Perfect (for one) wouldn't have been reset as it only increased 10.8% against a market that fell 17.8%.

OMG is on SCR and is not her current single in the UK anyway

Thanks for the mocking comment number 5678372 from you

Much appreciated

But see Sam fender’s album is a whole piece of work and he wouldnt re-release it adding an idiotic xmas song as track 1

Only Occ sheran does that (and Mabel) :)

Your post just highlighted why I made the comment!

I'm not a massive fan of the Adele song but really not keen on the Gayle track so happy with the result. Plus it could always climb there next week if populat enough.

Way I see it... this is what the chart would have looked like if December and all the crazy Christmas songs stuff hadn't happened.

Only thing that narks a bit is the newer songs like Sweet Talker and The Motto are charting a fair bit lower because of the resets.

OMG is on SCR and is not her current single in the UK anyway

OMG has so far peaked at #2 over here

Goosebumps by HVME (and the later credited Travis Scott) says otherwise. It's not bending the rules, it's the label literally specifying the credit. The OCC go by that, it's their policy.

Not the same scenario, Goosebumps is Travis Scott's song, don't think Peru is Ed Sheeran's song? ;)

I understand why they don't bend the rules for DaBaby or Sawatee

Surprised they haven't bent the rules before for Ariana, Madonna or Beyonce, huge names, by they do it now for Ed Sheeran

In all cases the songs had charted solo before and the artists jumped on a remix, all those cases would also qualify as "specifying the credit", makes no sense.

HVME's Goosebumps is a cover of the Travis song, so naturally it charted separately. Travis wasn't involved until he re-recorded Goosebumps for a new version of the HVME track, and the OCC eventually changed the credit, so actually, Travis was jumping on HVME's song here. Travis' original Goosebumps is a separate chart entry entirely so is unrelated here. The rules haven't been bent for Ed and Goosebumps is the same situation as far as the credit goes.

The labels obviously didn't credit Beyoncé on Perfect, or Ariana on Save Your Tears etc, so of course the OCC hasn't credited them. It's that simple and there's no Ed conspiracy here no matter how much you seem to want one...

This is wacky conspiracy theorist level almost along the same lines as that dude who cooked up a theory last week about the OCC hating the chart because of it containing Christmas songs after Christmas day

And IDW peaked at #4, so your point must be that both are singles just because they charted.

OMG is the 2nd single in the US (it's been serviced to radio there), it was never promoted to a single in the UK (EOM is still on the BBC Radio 1 playlist).

There is a possibility that EOM won't be a single in the UK, she already had a similar situation with 21, "Rumor Has It" was a US single and "Turning Tables" a UK one.

Why is it conspiracist level? And what other would Adele want her song to get a reset? And shame the OCC don’t hate the chart for containing Xmas songs after Xmas. If they hate it, they should create a Xmas chart and move them

To be fair, Adele will break a chart record with the reset. So I'm here for her breaking a record then going back to ACR in a few weeks.
In my opinion, ACR shouldn’t exist anyway. It’s utterly stupid. The most popular song that week should be #1, it’s decline shouldn’t be artificially accelerated. It’s ludicrous.

Was about to say exactly the same!

Do you want a repeat of 2016 charts and 15 week #1s? No thank you. The chart has to be adapted to the nature of streaming being the dominant force.

The charts are completely f***ed up anyway!
