January 25, 20224 yr of course I meant the new releases and not old albums, I think most newies get discounted on itunes half-week and if there's a big fight for #1 they almost give you the album for free in the end Missing the point again, I mentioned "established Artists" so the likes of recent Albums from Elvis Costello, Duran Duran, Oasis, Paul Weller and Sting for example. 95% is an exaggeration, a lot of this discussion is focused on the top end of the Chart and I would acknowledge is happens more than 50% there.
January 25, 20224 yr Gayle and Sam Fender back to 0 weeks of decline, things we love to see! Hopefully give them another 2/3 weeks more in the top 10 :cheer: And with 2 weeks until the Brits Sam should get a further boost

January 25, 20224 yr 95% was sure an exaggeration but Duran Duran got a crazy price drop mid-album with their latest, same for Paul Weller, Elvis Costello, big names do the same as new names... only Adele can escape that In fairness Duran Duran was reduced to £7 on the week of release but not the Deluxe Version which has not been below £14. Similarly, Paul Weller's Hardback version has not been below £19 and Elvis Costello has not been reduced yet. Y&Y have reduced their Deluxe Version by £7 (ie more than 50%) and that is a bigger margin than other recent examples.
January 25, 20224 yr I’m surprised they are going for it that hard with Y&Y when they have a decent lead - the signed standard and deluxe versions are £4.99 and £5.99 on Amazon.
January 25, 20224 yr Great to see Yard Act in contention this week, I've got one of their physical record store exclusives and I really enjoyed it on first listen - in particular the tracks on the second half.
January 25, 20224 yr Years and years really going for it, on iTunes and amazon. Discounts etc etc, but an interesting chart battle in fairness.
January 25, 20224 yr I just picked up Y&Y deluxe and standard editions from Amazon. Thanks for the tip off
January 25, 20224 yr Years and Years are no 2,4 and 5 on Amazon and no 1 and 9 on iTunes and (presumably) ahead of Yard Act on streaming. Yard Act are going to have to sell a lot of webstore copies to still be in the game.

January 25, 20224 yr Do hate it buy album for Friday sometime by Tuesday half price pay for it If I want a particular album on CD, I've learnt to stop buying on the day they're released, as they usually get reduced later in the week. I hated not owning twenty-one pilots' Scaled and Icy on the day it came out, but saved about a fiver by waiting four or five days. Now I have Amazon Unlimited it is easier, as I can still listen on release day, and then own the CD when it's at a lower price Edited January 25, 20224 yr by CJK
January 25, 20224 yr Do hate it buy album for Friday sometime by Tuesday half price pay for it Me too, i have learned to hold back and wait a couple of days to buy as you get it cheaper but with some acts i can never wait and buy on release day and pay more than i should.
January 25, 20224 yr ^^ And that’s the problem - record companies are not helping themselves and physicals are becoming a harder sell for them, everyone is slashing prices a few days after release so people are now waiting - it’s also particularly annoying when ‘limited’ editions or signed variants are dropped in price too. Some artists rather than slashing prices work on adding value for fans on week 1 by releasing additional ‘exclusive’ content or formats which is the way forward rather than dropping the price by 50% 24-48 hours after release.

January 25, 20224 yr Now get cd though hmv so have be £20 over get free delivery is guest game witch cd wait for wombats did same last week to
January 25, 20224 yr The price reduction thing is a double edged sword because on the one hand it is a nice tactic to boost first week sales but on the other hand it is a kick in the teeth to loyal fans who, if you are needing to use these tricks, are the audience you cannot afford to lose.
January 25, 20224 yr The Sherlocks posted on insta earlier that they have moved up to #8 in the mids on the album chart
January 25, 20224 yr Just noticed that Yard Act and Years & Years are both signed to Universal labels, so they’re the real winners!
