They must have changed the rules then? Unless they’ve just thought it’s bang unfair that Harry’s had 10 consecutive weeks when she’s the real #1 and decided to give her the reset?
Excellent news! I think the three year ACR rule is a bit stupid as barely any songs get an auto reset anyway most the year so great to see the OCC working with common sense rather than against it.

oh that is good news, even if it likely has only happened because of the outrage in the comments section from those in the know about the chart rules when she lost out last week despite an actual 28k lead over Harry.

I expect she won't get the benefit of 6 free weeks though - so if she's in decline this week and the next two , she'll be going back to ACR on the week she's likely to get a big boost from the ST finale (another week of potential awkwardness there).

That's great for Kate. I can see why it'd be trouble deciding in future if any other situations like these crop up again though but it does make sense since Kate is doing better than she was and it was only because of a rule stopping her achieve #1. They might get called out for being selective with what songs they allow off permanent ACR then. I guess Harry would have also still been #1 genuinely without Kate there too I suppose.

Either way Kate getting that historic #1 :cheeseblock:

I think there’s a difference between songs getting genuine one-off revivals like Running Up that Hill and songs that are certain to get repeatedly revived every 1/2 years.

Also, Running Up that Hill has clearly struck a chord with a whole new generation where it’s featured in playlists etc more because of the song itself. Three Lions/Mariah/Christmas songs are more down to the occasion.

It’s hard because it has to be more subjective, and so there’s more arguments of bias/discrepancy but the logic makes sense to me.

Oh my god yes! Agree with Klaus that this is genuinely a different situation to Christmas songs etc

The OCC do have history of changing rules when something like this happens… can’t remember what the rule was but I remember something changing conveniently to allow David Bowie to chart in the top 10 not that long ago

This would have been a great landmark track of the 1400th No.1 single, I make it 2 short away for been the 1400th landmark #1 single according to my database :o :(
I think Afraid To Feel is the safest bet to be the next #1 after Kate and that’s also quite different to anything else that’s in the charts so maybe (we can hope) we are in for a run of significant chart toppers. If only Space Man had made it too that would have been the cherry on the cake.
Wow, really happy for Kate and it will be super interesting to see if this opens a can of worms for the OCC when previous resurgent retro hits like Three Lions haven't been reset. Maybe there will be either a rule change or a massaging of the small print to say that labels can be granted one in an extraordinary circumstance.

If they follow my suggestion and take a song off ACR once it has been out of the chart for three years, Three4 Lions would only get a reset if England managed to codge things up and fail to qualify for a major tournament.

I’m guessing the fact RUTH is the biggest worldwide song at the moment, coupled with the length of time AIW has been No 1, it made sense to accurately reflect what people are actually streaming and downloading the most
I’ve seen BTS fans suggest on Twitter that some of their album sales may be discounted as it comes with free gifts, not sure what those are though.
Quite surprised to see Nick Mulvey that high - wonder if this means he will make the top 40
