Charisma was a big factor too, Johnson (god knows why) and Blair had it, May and Brown didn't. I think Sunak could be the only one that could get close to having the same level from this bunch and it's an if rather than a certainty! (oh god, I made a similar point to Chris, what is this world)

Maybe Penny might have the charisma also. A lot of people think she is sexy and she's mentioned things like concerts and speed dating in her press conferences and she's been on a TV contest show before. I'm not so sure that she would make a good Prime Minister though but the overall list doesn't look too inspiring.
Braverman has asked her followers to support Truss not Badenoch -it's either that Braverman thinks that even for her far right views Badenoch is too loopy, promised a glittering job in a Truss' cabinet or been primed by the ERG/Daily Mail to ensure that Truss is the top 2

What exactly about BoJo is so charismatic?

It seems to be the go-to explanation for all his success, but all I see is an arrogant prick with a painfully transparent bumbling idiot act.

Well that seems to be Badenoch's last chance to make the top 3 gone.

Oh god, its too Daily Mail to bring appearance into politics! :drama:

Penny definitely has charisma, but Tories who supported Brexit also find Truss's faith in it (still) reassuring rather than an alarm bell.

My secret hope is that Penny M will say what she has to say to get elected, but then will moderate or shift her positions once she has the power. Bojo did, afterall, and Cameron before him.

Omfg THIS!!!!

I know this is a self selecting poll and I despise the Daily Express but interesting figures, their readers LOVE Penny Mordaunt. Would be crazy if she was deprived a vote in the final two because of a Truss stitch up:

Overall, 5,673 readers cast their votes with Ms Mordaunt coming out as the most popular candidate with a strong 57 percent (3,242 people) of the vote.

In second place was Foreign Secretary Liz Truss with 17 percent (988 people).

This was followed by Kemi Badenoch with eight percent (433 people) and Attorney General Suella Braverman with seven percent (422 people).

A further four percent (201 people) backed former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, while three percent (158 people) supported Tom Tugendhat.

Mordaunt is charismatic, it is looking like the momentum of this election is well with her.

Like with Johnson, she'll fit the right 'image' that people have in their minds of a PM, the ability to be an overbearing, powerful figure who looks like she's in charge and knows what's best.

worth saying I think she'd actually be out of her depth in winning people over in the top job, but I do think she's the one who has the best chance of clearing things up and potentially doing well in a general.

If people hate Rishi, let's hope he gets it!! I wonder if he is now regretting backing Pennywise for so long

I think "charisma" amongst politicians is all relative. The bar has been so low for so long that habitual lying fakers with no principles get credit for not just being repellant or dull. Compared to the rest of the field Mordaunt seems mildly charismatic (or as I would call it, "not an extreme elitist self-serving nutjob"). It's not a co-incidence that the Right-Wing Press are targeting her as putting their far-right agenda at risk. So, if foreign-dwelling billionaires have the knives out for her, that's a much more convincing reason that she might be less damaging for the UK. A quick look at her bio gives a mixed picture: forces kid (me too), worked in a factory (me too) and then she goes and works on campaigns for George Bush. Tut!

So, from the view point of non-Tories, she would be the worst one to win. People might actually quite like her enough to stick with voting Tory. Fingers-crossed for Truss then.....

Truss is the Johnson candidate though, she just wants to be PM and will ride any ticket and support any ideology as long as it gets her what she wants. Can see why the right of the Party want her to lead, probably as she’s the only one dumb enough to give them all Cabinet jobs.
So the Tories will now say "WE MUST DO DIFFERENT" - like who the f*** has been in power the last 12 years?
Truss doesn't really have much in the way of anything. A complete intellectual void who could probably set fire to a building by using a stapler.

You make me LOL so much. How can a woman who got a degree at Oxford be an intellectual void? Anyway keep up the humour. :D

A forced kid you mean?? Like an unwanted one? Or against abortion?

her dad was in the Forces, like mine was. Not a millionaire's daughter, so points for that, and her mum died young from cancer after being in an NHS-type career. And she refuses to talk about her private life, so more points for that.

She might have a degree from Oxford but that doesn’t explain her complete and utter incompetence.

Well there's been a bit of a backlash to the operation Save Truss as a lot of the hard right/ ERG are going to go for Badenoch as she speaks their horrific language even more than Truss. That could liven things up, if Badenoch overtakes Truss (and probably Badenoch would do well in the debates as she's talented). That could probably pave the way to a Sunak vs Mordaunt final two as think Truss would move her MPs (well the ones she would have the influence over) to Sunak in the end. As Badenoch would probably be too risky/loose cannon even for the Tories even in their current incarnation.
