July 31, 20222 yr If she’d gone pop, she’d have stood way more of a chance of having success. Of course it’s fine to make music you want to make but she has to be prepared that she’s not going to be that global artist (which she appears desperate to be seen as) if she sticks with the 90s hip-hop style. You have to play the game in parts unless you have a clear vision that you’re able to perfect, which isn’t going to happen here. She has no connections with the genre she’s trying to do. It comes across as inauthentic and continues the blackfishing accusations which is currently the biggest hindrance to any success (and a lesson she’s clearly never going to learn!).
July 31, 20222 yr The focus on R&B is bizarre too. Does she think Boyz is an R&B song? Honestly what I have got from her over the last two years is delusional, and while I enjoyed Eating In with Little Mix and their tv show, she didn't exactly come across like someone who was switched on there either. I had assumed she was playing it up for tv but...
July 31, 20222 yr Jesy just posted a photo of her in LA saying 'natural hair is finally healthy again' and has been liking fans comments about her debut album..she still appears confident there will be an album... View this post on Instagram
July 31, 20222 yr Wow fingers crossed she knows what she is doing her future in the industry looks bleak Edited August 1, 20222 yr by spiceboy
August 1, 20222 yr Welp, she's really a meme of a white woman blackfishing at this point. The whole "muh natural hair" and showing a picture of it being styled frizzy is a part of that.
August 1, 20222 yr Ding, ding, ding we have a winner. Which is why I compared her situation to Steps. From here on out it will be cheap stuff with zero artistry, which is the Steps motto now. It will be songs others refused or scraps. It will be cheap videos, keeping costs to a minimum and recouping money through festivals and 47 format releases. That is if she takes a small deal with another label but I struggle to see her doing that and I cant see her hustling like Steps do either. Obviously she could go it alone like Mel C but I don't see her pouring money into her music career like Mel C does for the sheer joy of making music and being an artist with a direction. Her future looks pretty bleak right now as a recording artist. What did Steps do to hurt you?
August 1, 20222 yr Not Rachel Dolezal getting dropped before any of the other girls start their solo careers. I think there would be more validity to the argument that she's an involved artist who would fight on and thrive as an independent artist if she had more writing credits with Little Mix. I understand she wasn't making the music she wanted (well, they were with LM5 but her name was barely in the credits...) but I just don't see anything in the past decade that would suggest she'll create music for the love of it all — not without a good label to support her.

I think a lot of people tend to have a naive view of what being an independent artist means for most - it means that you essentially have to treat your music career as a side hobby and have another source of regular income to at the very least fund your living expenses (if you're lucky enough that you break even with your music). There's a reason why most former group members give up on making music and it's not because they don't like making music/performing - it's because eventually it becomes unfeasible to attempt to have a second career going alongside doing music. Jesy might find a small label that is willing to put minimal funds into releasing her music, but they won't fund her lifestyle and eventually she's going to find that a few millions doesn't really last that long if you have to fund recording music, staging performances and your own living expenses.

View this post on Instagram So her natural hair is an afro? What about her natural skin colour? This girl.....
August 1, 20222 yr There is literally no defending her at this point is there? As someone who gave her the benefit of the doubt continuously and tried to focus on the music (which in turn wasn’t good either) it has just become embarrassing. If I’m honest Jesy leaving completely turned me off Little Mix, not that I dislike the other girls but Jesy was my favourite personality, favourite voice etc so now to see that she has just wrecked her solo career beyond repair jus takes me sad.
August 1, 20222 yr That photo is serving Rachel Dolezal :drama: It really is.... that was the first thing I thought, like jesus christ. She just seems to have v low self awareness, like she doesn't know 'natural hair' is generally a term black women use more than anyone else. I really want her to just come down to earth a bit, Jesy never seemed like this for years in Little Mix. Its like she's become a different person. I think part of it is that she always seemed ready to take the piss a bit back in the day and now she can't laugh at herself and is first to cry bullying when any criticism comes.
August 1, 20222 yr She's responded to fans confirming the news and that there will be new music still. View this post on Instagram She responded to me yesterday (not the above) and was super sweet, she's actually quite responsive once you've talked a couple of times before.
August 1, 20222 yr What did Steps do to hurt you? I did lol at this comment  I have to say I also really don’t see the comparison to steps they are still a major act for BMG and one of their priority acts. They are clearly a legacy act but they still sell well in albums their last two are very close to gold and silver which is no small feat for a legacy act these days and they have just missed out on #1 with their last three albums which were all some of the highest #2 sellers of the year and would have been #1 in the majority of the rest of the year… not to mention they still put on big tours and are booked up constantly, there really is no comparison to what Jesy would likely be offered right now. If anything I’d say Jesy is more likely to be offered a deal similar to what you said Emma Bunton has in that she has to bring to recordings to the record label and then they will distribute it for her and even that seems generous at the minute with her current reputation. August 1, 20222 yr If anything I’d say Jesy is more likely to be offered a deal similar to what you said Emma Bunton has in that she has to bring to recordings to the record label and then they will distribute it for her and even that seems generous at the minute with her current reputation. This is probably the best case scenario for her, but at the same time it would mean she'd have to self-fund all her recording sessions and it wouldn't mean that the label would automatically agree to release whatever she brought with her. Add that I don't think she's formed any long-term relationships with record producers that are willing to work with her for pretty much free (like All Saints & K-Gee, Cameron McVey & Sugababes, Bananarama & Ian Masterson), so she'll likely have to pay to get her foot in with producers or rely on her management's rooster. As I said, money will inevitably become an issue no matter how much she crows at the moment that she'll release music - a couple of million in the bank won't last long without a money flow coming in; assuming that the buy-out from Little Mix included royalties she might not even have that.
August 1, 20222 yr Update 01/08/2022: JESY Nelson is in talks with new record labels to sign a fresh deal – just days after she walked away from Polydor. The former Little Mix star split from the label last week after they struggled to agree on the direction her solo music was going in. Music insiders have now revealed Jesy, 31, is already in demand from a number of other labels who are keen to get her on board. A source said: “Jesy is being courted by labels who are interested in getting her on board. “There are some independent labels who believe they could help her return to form - and give her the freedom she clearly desires. “Jesy is really proud of the music she has been making and she knows exactly what she wants when it comes to her sound. “She isn’t going to rush into anything but she’s had a couple of meetings and is excited about the future.” Source: The Sun Edited August 1, 20222 yr by Slayer
August 1, 20222 yr what label is going to want to take on this dumpster fire may i ask? (dumpster fire being the overall package, not her specifically before her stan starts)
