Well I was (probably) right to guess that 'The X Files' would be the least likely of my votes to appear for anyone else then - glad it did have a couple of other voters just barely! I know it's a bit of a meme but I do think it's a genuinely cool piece of music, and I have never even watched the show lol ~

Otherwise mostly songs I'm not familiar with in the last couple of posts, The Offspring song is decent though.

Glad Mark Snow got in there as the XFs was an iconic 90s show so like most other decades iconic tv moments they get a chart entry. I love the XFs, it’s a bit dated now but one of the greatest shows of all time and still enjoyable to watch. Though Bre if you started watching it not you’d probably think it was crap and dated just because it’s so old!

NO 125- 13 PTS

Get Up! (Before The Night Is Over) Technotronic Feat Ya Kid K (Voter: mark223)

(#2 for 2 weeks in February 1990 behind “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O’Connor)

The first song to peak at No 2 in the 90s and gives Ya Kid K her rightful credit

Baby Can I Hold You Boyzone (Voter: Gooddelta- 2pts, Gezza- 11pts)

(#2 for 1 week in December 1997 behind “Perfect Day” by Various)

Yeah OK it isn’t the original but I have a soft spot for this one (call it nostalgia)

Sex On The Beach T-Spoon (Voter: Roba!)

(#2 for 1 week in September 1998 behind “Millennium” by Robbie Williams)

Roba! Is getting down to this one which was one of the Eurohits of the year.

Technotronic is my favourite revealed in a little while, I actually prefer it to 'Pump Up The Jam'.

I spy feline artwork also

More Boyzone love, glad there was another (more generous!) voter for this, certainly one of their better covers.

Never been particularly keen on Sex On The Beach when it comes to Euro hits, sounded quite dated by 1998 too (everything about them is like a budget 2 Unlimited peddling Mr President) so I'm surprised it got to No.2. Due to the lyrics maybe.

Shy Guy is great - not really my genre but it’s an absolute tune.

Really like Get Up too. Though of course like most acts of that kind they subsequently descended into variations on a theme before the inevitable dreaded megamix.

Haha I initially thought nothing I voted for would be just me only but I guess now I think about it, it is very cheesy even for late 90's. A euro childhood bop though imo. Gave it 13 points.

'Baby Can I Hold You' another decent Boyzone cover there although I do like the original too.

Get Up (Before The Night Is Over) was one of the last three songs I cut from my votes - it was track 2 on The Best Dance Album In The World Ever 2 which was my introduction to much of early 90s dance. I also prefer it to Pump Up The Jam.

I love it also and remember it from the same dance compilation.

also like Get Up, despite not liking Pump up the Jam very much or Technotronic

that Sex on the beach track is terrible :/

and that Boyzone cover :/ one nano-second of the Tracy Chapman original is a gazillion times better than the laboratory-created Boyzone cover

the original comes from the guts and is sung from the guts, not that cover...

Get Up is great. Can't say i'm even aware of that particular Boyzone track tbh but I doubt it would be my thing. I also think Sex On The Beach just sounds naff even by the standards of its time, not the best Europop offering.

Get Up is my fave from the 3 out today. That cat is so cute.

lol at Gooddelta voting for another Boyzone single.

Oh Roba... 'Sex On The Beach' is dreadful, would surely be quite high up for me on a worst list of 90s #2s :kink:

I’ll Never Fall In Love Again Deacon Blue (Voter: King Rollo)

(#2 for 2 weeks in September 1990 behind “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” by Bombalurina)

Hetpn25.jpg

Technically an EP of covers of Bacharach & David tracks but this was undoubtedly the lead track and their biggest hit

Don't Worry Kim Appleby (Voter: Mark233- 6pts, Julian T- 4pts, Gezza- 1pt, Popchartfreak- 3pts)

(#2 for 1 week in November 1990 behind “Unchained Melody” by Righteous Brothers)

After the untimely death of her sister this was Kim’s lead solo single but was held off by the year’s biggest selling single. First song to attract four voters!

Love's Got A Hold On My Heart Steps (Voter: Gooddelta)

(#2 for 1 week in July 1999 behnd “Livin La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin)

Second Steps single to get the boot- 1 left for them.

Wow, chalk that up as five songs I've saved from zero. I thought that would have surely got at least a point from elsewhere! Great pop song.

Don't Worry very narrowly missed my vote, a really strong track.
