October 10, 20222 yr Deacon Blue the first from my vote to go. I did think I might be the only voter for that song.
October 10, 20222 yr I quite like the Deacon Blue EP but that cover on its own doesn’t do a huge amount for me. I guess Kim was unlucky that all her pointers were so low - such a sweet and catchy song.
October 11, 20222 yr Author NO 120- 16 POINTS I'm Too Sexy Right Said Fred (Voter: Jason- 9pts, Narcow- 7pts) (#2 for 6 weeks in August/September 1991 behind “Everything I do” by Bryan Adams) 6 LONG weeks in the summer of 91 saw this try to overcome the mighty Bryan Adams. Wasn’t to be sadly. All For Love Bryan Adams/ Rod Stewart/ Sting (Voter: Torple) (#2 for 1 week in January 1994 behind “Things Can Only Get Better” by D:Ream) Another movie tie in but Adams has 1 entry still left in this!
October 11, 20222 yr Author NO 116- 17 POINTS Justify My Love Madonna (Voter: Mark233- 3pts, Bjork- 10pts, Gezza- 4pts) (#2 for 1 week in December 1990 behind “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice) Lenny Kravitz written track saw this Madonna single become her third top 2 track on the row and promoted the “Immaculate Collection” album with a suitably risqué (for the time) promo. Madonna has 2 entries left. My Girl Temptations (Voter: Leonardo- 4pts, Chartjack2- 13pts) (#2 for 2 weeks in February/March 1992 behind “Stay” by Shakespear’s Sister) Surprisingly only a No 43 in the UK the first time. At least that got rectified. Stayin Alive N-Trance (Voter: Leonardo) (‘2 for 1 week in September 1995 behind “You Are Not Alone” by Michael Jackson) More Bee Gees covers here- but this isn’t our preferred N-Trance track in the rate. Everybody Get Up Five (Voter: Jason) (#2 for 1 week in September 1998 behind “Bootie Call” by All Saints) And Five are eliminated from the rate= saved from zero by Jason.
October 11, 20222 yr Surprised Justify My Love isn’t higher - one of Madonna’s better tracks; very sensual. Temptations succumbing to the usual from a previous decade curse.
October 11, 20222 yr 'My Girl' a Motown classic, however wouldn't have been anywhere near my votes unfortunately. Edited October 11, 20222 yr by Roba!
October 11, 20222 yr I really like Justify My Love but it wasn’t that close to my top 30. N-Trance were always an act of two halves to me - the phenomenal original dance tracks, and the dreadful disco and/or 70s covers, and Stayin’ Alive fell into the latter category. At least it didn’t outpeak Set You Free, thanks to MJ.
October 11, 20222 yr Stayin' Alive was N-Trance's best attempt at a cover... I actually liked it at the time but can see in retrospect that it wasn't really that good. Ones that did almost make my votes that have gone recently were Technotronic, Deacon Blue, Madonna and Kim Appleby. Baby Can I Hold You is actually one of the more tolerable Boyzone songs too thanks to the original being such a great record. That Five track was one of their better efforts too. T-Spoon however is definitely among the very worst songs of the 90s. There are no redeeming factors for me, I'm convinced it only did well because you didn't get the word 'sex' in songs as blatantly back in those days... similar to the popularity of I Wanna Sex U Up and Horny (albeit the latter is pretty catchy).
October 11, 20222 yr Justify My Love is interesting but it's not one among my favourites from Madonna. My Girl is obviously great but the "not really from this decade" factor did basically discount it from my votes with such strong competition. Everybody Get Up was probably the best of the Five songs included here so it deserves to place highest. N-Trance's Stayin Alive is trash, poles apart from their other song in this rate. Horny might have a bit of the naff factor with the tee-hee lyrics but I actually think the production holds up very well and it's a low-key bop. Sex On The Beach on the other hand just sounds cheap in every sense.
October 11, 20222 yr oh 'Justify My Love' is another good'un to drop out recently, shame I didn't have room!
October 12, 20222 yr 'Justify My Love' was quite close to my votes, quite like 'My Girl' as well from today's dropouts. Slightly surprised that 'I'm Too Sexy' is this low, not really complaining though (I do kinda like it as far as novelty hits go but it's by no means an essential).
October 12, 20222 yr Aww such a bad day for me. Only me voting for Everybody Get Up. It's my second fave Five single just behind Keep on Movin' of course. Also only me and Narcow voting for the iconic I'm Too Sexy :( It's so much better than their number 1 Deeply Dippy imo. Edited October 12, 20222 yr by Jason
October 12, 20222 yr Author NO 114- 18 POINTS I luv U Baby Original (Voter: Leonardo- 18pts) (#2 for 1 week in August 1995 behind “Never Forget” by Take That) Re-released for the summer of 95 and almost overturned Take That. Horny Mousse T Vs Hot N Juicy (Voter: Daan-4pts, Roba!- 6pts, Mack- 8pts) (#2 for 1 week in June 1998 behind “C’est La Vie” by B*Witched) All over radio in the summer of 98 and still attracting a fair amount of love it seems!!
October 12, 20222 yr Author NO 112- 19 POINTS Baby I Love Your Way Big Mountain (Voter: Mack) (#2 in 3 weeks in June 1994 behind “Love Is All Around” by Wet, wet, wet) Remake which also comes from a film but you know what stopped it making the top spot. Speaking of which……. I Swear All 4 One (Voter: Gooddelta- 6pts, Narcow- 13pts) (#2 for 7 weeks in July/August 1994 behind “Love Is All Around” by Wet, wet, wet) Felt sorry for Right Said Fred? This lot spent forever in the wings waiting for their time to come….
October 12, 20222 yr Didn't quite vote for 'I Luv U Baby' but I have a bit of a soft spot for it, as it's a song that my parents associate with meeting each other, so grew up with it around the house a lot
October 12, 20222 yr I Luv U Baby was another of the last 3 songs I had to cut from my final 30. It was #3 the week Blur and Oasis entered above, and I probably play it more than those two songs these days!
