September 20, 20222 yr I'd also like "Beautiful Girls" to be replaced by "We Can't Stop", then "Freaky Friday" to be replaced by "Turn Up the Music".
September 20, 20222 yr Of all the songs on the current list I'd remove No Regrets, that's an excellent song. I also like The Club Is Alive, Payphone, Freaky Friday & Toosie Slide but am not as bothered about those being included. Don't think I've ever seen disdain for the Dappy song? Sam Smith - Stay With Me is a must surely? That was almost universally hated on here at the time. I also wouldn't "waste" the Ed Sheeran slot on Ladbaby, I'd give that to Thinking Out Loud which held the record for lowest Reshuffle score for many many years I think.
September 20, 20222 yr I've said similar in a different thread, but I don't think Dance Monkey should be included if the aim is to find the "worst #1" instead of just the #1 which the most people dislike. If a song spends a year in the Top 40, it's understandable more people will end up with strong feelings about it than something which had 4 or 5 weeks (same argument goes for Perfect and Thinking Out Loud). I'd also remove Beautiful Girls, and in their place add Dirtee Disco and A Bridge Over You (I know the latter was for charity, but it's such a clunky mesh of the two songs it's covering).
September 20, 20222 yr I'm pretty sure I called 'Dance Monkey' one of the worst songs I'd ever heard before it entered the top 40 at all so its longevity doesn't have anything to do with it for me. (Fair point though)
September 20, 20222 yr If we're saving Dance Monkey for longevity reasons or being 'marmite' (i.e. a fair amount of people also like it), I've seen plenty of people in here defending Payphone too!
September 20, 20222 yr Yeah I don't really understand why 'Payphone' is in this list, it's not particularly offensive?
September 20, 20222 yr The fab dance Monkey does not deserve being on the list, neither does JLS, Sean Kingston, BEP's, Alexandra, Maroon 5, Charlie Puth or jason Derulo, sugababes/girls aloud. The rest are pretty meh to godawful. One Direction Teenage Kicks is their least annoying. Rage Against The Machine I've never liked. It only got there as a protest, previously being mercifully obscure. Peter Kay? Helping haiti? Sak Noel? Anything by James Arthur, Bingo Players, Storm Queen, Bang bang was awful (Jessie J & co), Cheerleader annoying, Sam Smith Too Good At Goodbyes, and most rap chart-toppers of the last 3 years, Cardi B, Internet Money, tho I realise they will have lots of fans. Just not me.
September 20, 20222 yr Sean Kingston really DOES deserve to be on this list, as does the abysmal Sugababes/GA song. Will keep saying this!!
September 20, 20222 yr Tones & I IN because it’s terrible and could (inexplicably - how anyone can tolerate that vocal performance is beyond me x) throw up fun standard deviation stats FYI I’ve been a day 1 hater of ‘Dance Monkey’, like before it made the top 40  the longevity was just adding insult to injury Her voice is absolutely horrible  I can't get into the actual song at all because it's so off-putting
September 20, 20222 yr Perhaps Dance Monkey needs a yes/no poll but I don’t think one can be added to the thread retrospectively? Hilarious that Bré would give it +25 but thinks it shouldn’t go on and I would give it +1 but think maybe it should. You should be able to still add one, just click on Manage this topic's poll when you do a Full Edit. Also, it's not really my thing, but I will defend WAP as that had far too much cultural impact to be on a list like this, it raised a number of reactions, but not all of them were bad.
September 20, 20222 yr Oh I know some people didn't like Dance Monkey from day one, but there are certainly others who went 180 on it after supporting it charting initially...
September 21, 20222 yr I actually paid money for it and never got fed up with it :teresa: There's a certain hilarity in some of that generation loving Teletubbies and hating Dance Monkey. As I was old for both of them, trust me Teletubbies is far more annoying without fluffy pink nostalgic haze to bring back happy memories  That's not a criticism BTW I have the same reaction to the sin of inclusion of many of my childhood faves in the rate for the 60's  Come Outside anyday over both of the above because I also have fuzzy nostalgic vibes when I hear it. :D
September 21, 20222 yr The Teletubbies song is explicitly made for young children, I think it's quite telling that you see fit to draw a comparison between it and 'Dance Monkey'...
September 21, 20222 yr Include 'Dance Monkey' for sure. Rihanna and Whitney have the real record for the most conservative weeks at #1 for a female artist in the UK. No Tones & I.
September 21, 20222 yr I honestly think Dance Monkey >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Umbrella or I Will Always Love You
September 21, 20222 yr When this is all over, somebody needs to do a thread on “marmite records” haha - has any other single split Buzzjack down the middle so completely as Dance Monkey? It’s the “J’Accuse” of late Teenies chart hits!
September 21, 20222 yr Author Thanks Jester for adding the Dance Monkey poll - everyone please vote in that! Based only on what’s had multiple nominations in the thread so far I’ve made 5 additions and 5 removals in the OP. Do comment on those - is the new list an improvement?
