I liked the other singles from that Miley album more (I wish 'Angels Like You' was the one that got the universal praise, that's my favourite song from her :heart:) but I can definitely see why 'Midnight Sky' is the big fave. Was a grower for me after initially being a bit put off by the vocals.

 

Rerun of last year's top 2 then, just hoping for them to swap over.

Agree with Bre that Angels Like You is probably my favourite from that album (although it’s very strong overall). I shall continue nominating that in vain lol.

 

2 2 556 Dua Lipa - Physical

Finishing in 2nd place for a 2nd year we have Dua Lipa with 'Physical'. Just about keeping its position, with Miley only 3 points behind, it did however manage to gain enough on last year (+22 points). She received 24 votes with 7 of these being ranked in the top 10, that's also up on last year. 'Physical' also won the yearly round of 2020 for a second year. Taken as the second single from 'Future Nostalgia' it was another hit to take inspiration from the 80s synthpop trend (and the Olivia Newton-John song of the same name in particular) which clearly was a recipe for it to be massively loved on Buzzjack. It's not one of my absolute faves of hers but it's a very fun pop track.

Winning for a second time then is of course The Weeknd 'Blinding Lights'. It was never in much doubt we'd be seeing this win throughout the voting period as it does so with a margin of 77 points (increasing its points total on last year by +85). The song scored from 24 voters (+6 on last year) with 11 top-10 rankings. The Weeknd put this out as the joint-lead single to 'After Hours' and before too long it became his first UK #1 and solidified itself as one of the biggest hit singles of the streaming era - with a song as wide-appealing as this it's not hard to see why. It is now the 2nd-most streamed song of all time, behind only 'Shape of You'. Again it's not a winner I can complain about either as it's definitely a great track, although I didn't find room for it in my votes. So again congrats to The Weeknd for the 2nd and probably not final time as winner. With the love Buzzjack has for this song clearly not getting any weaker, it seems we may very well have our modern-day 'Bad Romance' here.

Agreed there, Blinding Lights is a fair bit more preferable to Physical for me. Although I'd have liked a Midnight Sky win if it's out of the top three, at least that narrowed the gap on Physical this year.

Well that's a fantastic top 2 once again, and as much as I'd like to have see Dua take a turn at the top, Blinding Lights is pure class - congrats once again Abel! Wonder if he can become the first to win for 3 years in a row next year...

This is beautiful. Too see the Weeknd get so much love on buzzjack. I've supported him since 2011 and its incredible to see his rise

I get why it won but it's not really for me and find it massively overplayed/overrated personally.

I can see why some might not be as well taken to 'Midnight Sky' tbh as the vocals you either love or hate but I love it and it's easily the best Miley song she's put out imo.

 

'Physical' is a pop anthem and I hope Dua returns with something like this for her return rather than 'Don't Start Now' as much as I like that too.

 

'Blinding Lights' a fairly obvious winner even if I did get slightly tired of it for a while.

Shame that 'Physical' didn't quite get there this year (I think my love for it has grown even more after seeing Dua live) but 'Blinding Lights' is still a brilliant opponent at least.

 

Great to see a new peak for 'Midnight Sky'! That is quite possibly my favourite song by her although 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' runs it close. I echo the 'Angels Like You' love too.

Ah, fair fair winner. I enjoy Blinding Lights a lot, a bit more than Physical (which is still very good!) Very static at the top but I think we know that's what tends to happen by now. Thanks for running this again Dan & ElectroBoy!

I thought Physical won last year :') a good top 2 although Midnight Sky is my favourite of the top 3, 5, and probably 10! Next year I'll make sure to vote

Guess that top few are in it for the long haul then much like Gaga, Robyn etc. before, I'm more than OK with that though. Physical is fantastic and I hope it gets it's turn eventually, but Blinding Lights still hasn't gotten remotely old for me and is clearly an all-time classic in the making <3
